Calvin and Sunday headed out the outdoor arena, of which Bronwyn, her mare Sugar and himself had just been riding. They had done a nice session of barrels, and a horrible turn of poles, at least for him. The two Western riders had agreed on going for a quite trail ride after their runs.
The teen sighed as he asked Sunday to halt untill their company was close to them. "You wanna go to the meadow?" Calvin asked her. He just wanted to get out and chill now. School was going to get hectic and he wanted to have time to get out on the trails before the snow came and he was to piled with homework to be able to ride carelessly.
"So, how long have you been at the academy?" Calvin asked her in a friendly tone. He thought that on the serene trails would be a nice place to get to know her more. "Do you want to pick up a jog?" Calvin asked her, turning around in his saddle to glance back at her. Without really waiting for a response he asked Sunday to pick up a jog and she happily did so. The mare's ears were flying around like radar dishes, picking up every little bird song, and rustle in the bush. He chuckled a little, before reaching forward and scratching the mare on her neck. "I think the trail is wide enough to come beside us." Suggested Calvin. He didn't like not being able to see her. It made him feel rude.

Bronwyn followed a little ways behind Calvin and his mare, Sunday. She had been right behind tem, but had made a quick stop by the stables to check on her gelding. Phantom was happily munching away at hay in his stall.
She nodded when she came into Calvin's sight. "Yeah, the meadow sounds fun. I haven't ridden the trails yet." She admitted, "Classes and all have kept me pretty busy. I was lucky to have finished all my homework before today. I specifically decided to ride today, so had to make sure everything for classes was done." She grinned, "I've been here a few weeks now… well, maybe longer than that, but not really long enough to get set on autopilot yet. I was so glad to get back into a boarding school, but it's been harder than I initially thought it would be to really get back into the groove of everything." She confessed, laughing a little.
She barely shifted in the saddle before Sugar picked up the faster gait, staying behind the other mare. She was still feeling a bit competitive, and broke into a fast lope, slowing only when she was jogging alongside Sunday. Bronwyn let the mare do as she pleased, as the horse, she knew, wasn't aggressive or anything, she was just competitive. "You know," She remarked to her riding partner as the two horses jogged in unison, "I've got to come up with a nickname for you. Most people call me 'Bronnie' instead of 'Bronwyn' because it's easier on the vocals…" she contemplated him for a few moments, "I'll let you know when I think of a suitable nickname."

Calvin nodded in agreement. Boarding school wasn't the easiest thing in the world he had to admit. Not seeing your family everyday like he was used to, he had to be honest, it was hard.
He laughed a little when she said she had to come up with a nickname for him. "Okay, you do that, Bronnie! It is it any help some people call me Cal." He told her glancing over and giving her a grin. "So, how fast can your little pony go?" Calvin turned to her giving her a devilsh grin. With that he yelled to no one in particular "We will race you to the meadow!" The teen called to them over his shoulder as he asked Sunday to push out into a nice lope.
Taking a deep breathe he carefully nudged his palomino Quarter Horse mare with his heels, and she moved into a heavy gallop. Calvin went with the movement of his mare and didn't even look back to see where Bronnie and Sugar were. "Yee ha!" He said saying the old saying that all the kids who watched Toy Story with Woody would say after watching the movie. Calvin laughed to that thought and smiled. These were good times!

"Then I'll call you 'Cal'." She said decisively, nodding when the name sounded right. A small grin crossed her face, and she laughed softly. "... And 'Callie'." She chirped a momet later, mischevious smile on her face.
Bronnie started in surprise when he took off on his mare, but hearing his words, the girl got a determined glint in her eye and loosed the reins, flinging her arm forwards, towards Sugar's ears. "YAH!" She yelled wildly, feeling the mare go from a walk to a dead gallop in the span of only a few seconds. "Go Sugar!" The girl yelled, kicking the mare and urging her to go her fastest.
Bronwyn knew that Calvin and his mare would definately beat her and Sugar, as they had a pretty big head start, but that wouldn't stop her and the Appaloosa from trying their best to catch up and beat them! Bronnie urged the mare on, letting Sugar stretch. The mare's head and neck were snaked out, ears flat against her skull. Bronnie was leaned low over the mare's neck so as to give her her headand reduce the wind rushing back at them. They thundered down the trail wildly, chasing ater Calvin and his horse.

Cal looked back over his shoulder just as him and Sunday were a few feet away from the meadow. The teen sat deep and slowly started to ask the mare to slow down to a walk. Sure, they had beat Bronnie and Sugar, but it was also unexpected and they had a big headstart.
The sixteen year old patted his panting horse, before he asked her to walk over to a near-by river. The cool water made a swooshing sound over the smooth submereged rocks. With a sigh he leaned forward in his western saddle and slid off. "Good girl, you have a rest now." The palomino's owner told her with a gentle scratch on her forehead.
Calvin walked over just a foot or two away from his mare and she began to slowly drink water from the fresh blue river. He slumped down on the fresh green grass and waited for a few seconds, before he could hear the thumping of horses hooves. The well built teen smiled and chuckled a little bit as he though of Bronwyn and he little appaloosa running down the trail after them.

She could tell that Sugar, even though she was a little tired, was enjoying the run. Bronnie leaned low over the mare's neck, giving her her head, and let out a small scream when the mare suddenly veered off the trail and leapt down a small bank to crash through the wooded area. "Sugar!" The girl didn't know where the mare was going, and she had dropped the reins when Sugar had veered off so suddenly... Bronnie grasped at the reins that dangled and danced through the air under and dangerously close to the horses legs and hooves, but she couldn't quite reach.
Bronnie couldn't help the scream that emitted from her when she felt the sensation of the world dropping out from underneath her as the mare took an unexpected leap downwards, and she shrieked in surprise when cold water rose up to splash her face and arms. She didn't know how she had stayed in the saddle.
Bronwyn, breathing almost as hard as the mare, looked around slowly, feeling color coming back into her face. Sugar had never done something like that before, and the girl felt herself shaking slightly as she slipped off the saddle to stand, shakily, knee-deep in muddy water. She ignored the water that seeped into her boots and jeans and leaned against the horses shoulder, feeling Sugar heaving for breath. "That... That was..." Bronnie couldn't form the words and simply fell silent, catching her own breath and waiting until the shakiness left her body... most of it, at least.
The girl looked around, not recognizing where she was at. Well, besides the river, which curved both behind them and in front of them, they were surrounded by trees. Bronwyn's eyes gazed upwards, and she gasped softly upon seeing the steep bank that the mare had had no choice but to jump down from. "There's no way we're getting back up that, girl..." She said softly, crossing her arms and shivering slightly as a light breeze blew, the water making it seem colder than it really was. We're lucky... Bronwyn thought, looking again at the bank. Jumping from that onto hard ground could have... Lucky the river was here... but... She gazed again at the steep bank, then turned her eyes to the other side of the river, where the opposite bank was just as steep. "No going that way, either..." She muttered. an unsure look crossed her face and Bronwyn glanced forwards, upriver, then downriver. Sug's not a tall horse... what if the water gets deep later on? Maybe I shouldn't move... but...
