David strode into the barn, looking around the airy space for the one called the manager. He had no horse to settle into the stall, only two leads thrown over his shoulder, and a trusty boxer walking by his side. He had just finished settling his two puppies into the dorm room, and they passed out immediately, overwhelmed with excitement. David smiled, and looked down at the boxer, Dublin, before continuing his walk. The dog was young and excitable at times, but David left him unleashed, knowing he would not run off.

Katherine exited Zeus' stall and latched the door. The black gelding had been a handful lately, even just leading him out to the pasture, so the woman had just installed a few boredom busters into his stall. In the hopes that with something to do while stuck in his stall, the Dartmoor would have something to do other than destroy his stall and torment those around him.
As she turned around to head to her office, she almost walked into a man and his canine - whom she frowned at. "I'm afraid that your dog will need to wait for you outside." She said, in a voice that said it wasn't open for argument, as she nodded toward the main doors.

David nodded as she mentioned Dublin must wait outside, and spoke quickly in his Irish accent towards the dog. "Dublin outside.. and wait." Dublin pricked his ears up, but otherwise obeyed his commands, heading for the main doors. Once he was outside, David turned back towards Ms. Carr, smiling apologetically. "I'm sorry ma'am, I did not know they were unwelcome in the barns" He thought back towards the two puppies, glad that he did not bring them as well. "Well I am a new student here, and I do not have a horse of my own, so I was told to find you about setting up myself with a academy horse."

Katherine smiled as the dog was sent outside. "You must be David. There are a number of horses at the academy that don't tolerate dogs, so to make it easier on everyone they just aren't allowed in the barns or the arenas." She looked further down the barn. "And between you and me, I think the barn cat eats them for lunch." She had recently acquired a barn cat... or at least a cat had wandered in and made the place home - even if the woman was certain that the feline was at least part bobcat.
She led the way into her office and offered the boy a seat before sitting in her own behind her desk. "Tell me about your riding." She had a few notes that she had been given about the boy's previous riding experience, but she would rather hear it from his mouth than believe what was written on a sheet of paper.

David smiled gingerly when she mentioned the number of horses that did not tolerate dogs, and then even more when she mentioned barn cats. Dublin loved to chase the cats, and he was hoping that he would not come back with any scratches on his body. Smiling, he ran a hand through his reddish brown hair anxiously and looked at Ms. Carr curiously.
He followed her into the office, and quickly sat when she motioned for him to take a seat. He watched as she took a seat behind her desk and heard her ask him about his riding experience. Flashing her a quick smile, he began to speak in his delicate accent. "Well I have been riding horses since before I could even walk fully, and started showing competitively when I was six years old. My first horse I ever rode was an older Irish Sport Horse, but he was as faithful as an old dog, never took a step out of line. The horse that I started riding regularly was a younger Dutch Warmblood mare, she was 8 years old, and was definitely a little bite spirited. I was helping my friend train his warmblood colt before I came here.."

Katherine nodded as she listened to David speak of his riding experience, and jotted down a few notes about what he said as she brought up the file that contained the information about the school horses. Looking through them, she regarded the boy sitting on the other side of her desk and put a mental cross through some of the horses and the ponies. "So, from what I gather, you can hold yourself on a horse." It was a statement, not a question. "What discipline do you favour, David?" She would hardly want to team him up with a horse that did something he didn't like.

David watched eagerly as she jotted down notes from what he was telling her about his riding experience. He was hoping for an ultra competitive horse but also one that was not too old, maybe one that needed some extra attention and work. He smiled and nodded when she mentioned he could definitely hold himself on a horse, and then ran a hand through his reddish brown hair quickly. When she asked him about what discipline he preferred, he thought for a few secrets, and then answered her question quickly. "I enjoy every stage of eventing, but with specific interests in jumping and cross country."

Katherine smiled as she brought up the page with the eventing horses. Her eye went straight to the horse she knew would be a perfect match for David, and the boy for the horse. Timetable was still young and needed to be kept in line, but he loved to jump and would take the right person far. "I would like you to have a go with Darkest Hour." She said as she typed the student's name in the space that was left to put in the horse's assigned rider. "He is an eight year old Dutch Warmblood who dominates the eventing scene. He loves jumping though, so you will need to keep him focused the whole time." Before she closed the file, the picture of Percy caught her eye - she knew that he could also teach the student a lot, but as he was getting on in his years, he was better off as a teaching horse for novice riders.
She looked up at David. "Would you like to go and meet your new best friend?" She asked.

David continued to watch as she jotted down notes from what he was telling her. He was wondering about what she thought about him and his experience. He quickly thought back to the days of riding his first horse, and then even breaking in his friend's colt. Warmbloods always held a special spot in his heart, and a huge smile plopped onto his face when she began to speak about the horse she was assigning him. He was a younger Warmblood stallion and loved to jump and compete, just as David did. Smiling, he looked over at her, his hazel eyes tinkling.
When she closed the files, and asked if he would like to meet his new best friend, he quickly stood and answered her fluidly. "I would absolutely love to meet him!" He walked over to the door, holding it open for her and waiting patiently.

Katherine laughed, not unkindly, at the boy's eagerness to meet the gelding. She bowed her head in thanks as she walked through the opened door and led the way down to the warmblood's stall. "Hello, Hansom." She greeted the seventeen hand gelding as Timetable's head came over the door to inspect the two visitors. "This is your new partner in crime." anyone walking past would not be able to tell whether she was talking to the horse or the rider.
She turned her full attention to David. "I would like to watch you ride at some point. Today however is a day for the two of you to get to know one another and the stress of being observed is one less thing you need. His gear is in his named locker in the tack room, his barn colours are mint green and white. If you need anything, you know where to find me." With a warm smile, she bowed her head toward him again, gave the gelding a scratch under his forelock, and headed back to her office.
