~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wanna glide over Mulholland I wanna write her name in the sky ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The vet barn was an impressive place. Yet when Lestat entered he was only worried about Benny. Somehow the pretty gelding had hurt his leg, and the swelling just wouldn't go down. So he turned to the only person he knew that could help. Kirk Clarkson. The vet seemed a bit off towards him, when Lestat made known that he and Chuck were friends. It wasn't his fault, and Chuck was actually a pretty good guy once a person knew him. Lestat had to stay in Kirk's good books. The reason being: Lestat wanted to go out with his sister, or at least just ask her out for coffee. Mr. Clarkson, he called, are you in here?. The chestnut gelding limped behind him. Each step as painful as the next one. Lestat's heart bled for his horse. He didn't how the gelding had injured himself. Probably some freak paddock accident, but all Lestat cared about was seeing his young horse healthy again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wanna free fall into nothin' Gonna leave this world for a while ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Status: Complete Lyrics: Free Fallin'--Tom Petty
Kirk Clarkson Kirk Clarkson knelt down in his stallion's stall. Since his bad gash on his hind leg a few weeks back, it was healing nicely. But, the man didn't wan't an ugly scar left, so everyday he rubbed the rough scab with baby oil. It was an old time secret, there were alot of those. It was cheaper than buying special ointment to do the job, plus, it really did work.
The stallion's small red ears flicked forward he turned his full head with huge cheek bones to look at the couple entering the barn. His attention was full aware of them by the time the man called out for the vet. Kirk rose up from his position, his head peered out of the stall door, "I'll be right with you!" he called, not knowing who the client and patient were.
The vet quickly screwed the cap on the bottle and and sat it by the stall as he exited. He latched the door and wiped his hands together as he approached the new comers. His brown oracles looked up, recognizing the man as Lestat, then they drifted to the horse, and it was very noticable about his leg injury, "Welcome to the clinic, luckily this is your first visit?" he questioned with his natural sense of humor. After all, people didn't want to come here, they wanted healthy horses. He wouldn't pick a fight here, not where pateints came first. He wouldn't treat the horse any less even if he did have a quarrel with the man. That was not his job, his job was to keep animals alive, any animals. He looked back to the horse now, and held out a hand breifly for him to sniff, "How long has his leg been like this?" he questioned, "And has the swelling increased any, decreased any, or stayed the same?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wanna glide over Mulholland I wanna write her name in the sky ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lestat was busy straightening the already straight forelock of Benny, when he heard footsteps approach. hI noticed that his left foreleg was a bit warm last night when I went to go check on him. So I put on some Arnica Ice, and then by this morning it swelled to what it is now. A little frown appeared on Lestat's face. It was worrying to know that Benny had injured his leg, and he worried that it could be a small puncture wound, a very small one that is. So Doc, you think you can save him? Lestat mean't his tone to be joking, but he was to worried about Benny to joke. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wanna free fall into nothin' Gonna leave this world for a while ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Status: Complete Lyrics: Free Fallin'--Tom Petty

Dr. Clarkson figured out a lot about people by how they treated their animals, and how they reacted to his humor. Granted, too some, his sense of humor in situations where they were fearing for their animal's lives made him come off as cocky or arrogent, but he was a d@mn good vet, so he could afford it. Lestat hadn't made an attempt to find humor in his comment, so Kirk just blew it off.
He listened as the man explained the leg felt warm. He did do the most logical thing someone would expect. The gel obviousley hadn't done a thing for it. The vet started on the animal's slick shoulder and ran his hand down the leg. His brown orbs searched for any signs of a bite or mark that could trigger the inflammation by an infected area, "Was he ridden or worked earlier that day?" Kirk asked, "And when you noticed the warmth, where was he, a stall? Pasture?" the man didn't mean to put the guy under a spotlight, but questions hopefully provided answers to narrowing down the possibilities before starting to elminate them medically.
Granted, it was probably just a bruised or pulled muscle. But, last time he over looked something, it lead to the death of a student's horse. He chuckled lightly at the man's comment, "I didn't think he was in trouble."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wanna glide over Mulholland I wanna write her name in the sky ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lestat looked at the vet. It wasn’t that he couldn’t take a joke, but the fact that his best horse was lame, and Manny was having a back problem. Lestat rubbed the back of his neck, and racked his mind to remember. “Last time I rode him was about three or four days ago, and I lunged him the day before. He was in his paddock from about after lunch yesterday till about dusk. I took him out, and he was fine, and then when I bought him inside he was limping a bit. So then I felt his legs and then only this one was hurt. He also seemed to stumble over his feet just now when I was walking with him, but he seemed fine. Realising that the spotlight was on him, Benny stretched his head out Lestat and gave a small nicker. Lestat rubbed the dark chestnut underneath his forelock. He whispered a few words in French, and started doing small circles on the horse’s forelock. Benny gave a small sigh, and dropped his head. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I wanna free fall into nothin' Gonna leave this world for a while ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Status: Complete Lyrics: Free Fallin'--Tom Petty
The vet figured he was slightly out of place for making the comment by the look Lestat gave him. He didn't say anything, but looked down at the animal's leg. He ran his hand down it again, and he hadn't found what he was searching for. There was no, from what he could see, sign of lesion, opening, bite of any kind. That simplified things though, the horse just pulled something.
Kirk listened to the testimony Lestat gave him. It didn't seem like the horse was worked hard at all recently. But then, being out in the paddock, who knew all the mysteries that happened out there. He could have slipped down at the creek, tripped from a hole in the ground, kicked out at the fence at another horse and twisted his leg. The man put a hand to his chin, "He could have done anything in the pasture to injure it, then nothing showed up unitl later. like how bruises work on us."
He looked at the horse. His sweet nature made him a very easy patient, and Kirk didn't get many of those, "It would be best to leave him here, so I can moniter the swelling throughout the day and over night. Of course, there is no limit on visting hours."
Lestat watched as the vet ran his hands down Benny’s leg. The horse flinched slightly when he felt the hands, and leaned his head into Lestat’s chest. Lestat calmly rubbed the horse’s neck. “Sometimes you are such a sissy, you know,” he fondly told the dark chestnut. When Kirk told Lestat that Benny had to stay here, alarm bells went off in his head. It meant that something more serious was going than just a small sprain or pulled tendon. Something that wouldn’t be fixed within the next few weeks. Maybe for the while he could ask Chuck if he could use one of his horses. Maybe even that b@stard of a gelding of his. Then there was the other thing that Lestat had actually come to do. Ask Kirk if he could go out with his sister, or at least just for coffee, and if her brother would approve of everything.
Yes, Raven had made him feel alive for the while, but nothing that Kristin made him felt. Sometimes Lestat wished that he could be more like Chuck, who had his own fair share of issues, but could easily brush it off with his arrogance. Lestat knew he would have to say something soon. “Thanks,” he said, meaning it and then he went in for the kill, “I would really like to go out with your sister, but I wanted to ask you first, and if you say no...” Well Lestat wouldn’t let that stop him,”...then I’ll distance myself from her.”
Kirk didn't know how well Lestat would take it. Maybe the vet was just being overly caustious, but he didn't want to make the same mistake twice. He patted the gelding's neck. Lestat never objected the idea, so Dr. Clarkson ruled it as it was a go.
Normally, at this point, he would take the lead and wave the owner off, but of course, it wasn't often his clients bluntly stated on going on with his little sister. Kirk hadn't talked to Kris about it, and for her sake, he wouldn't do anything to upset them, until he found out just how much the blonde liked this man. His brown brow rose in a skeptical manner, it honestly wasn't anything he was expecting. How should he feel about somone asking him to date a girl? Another thing, the vet wasn't sure how old this man was, they looked close to the same age. Maybe he was just more mature.
"Look," Kirk chuckled lightly, "Just because I wouldn't like to see it, doesn't mean anything," he then tilted his head at the boy, "I appreciate that you ask me, it shows you have respect for her. I like that."
Lestat handed over Benny’s lead, yet the horse still had his head in Lestat shoulder. “I was taught that the senior male figure is the one to go to. In this case you are that figure. Thank-you. I will look after her well.” Every word he said was true. It wasn’t in Lestat to lie, only the issue was the fact that he was the same age as the vet himself. A six year difference was a lot, but Lestat kept quiet.
Well, it was time to depart; he would go change and then go for a run, something to clear his mind, and to find perspective. It was all he needed, and then he would figure out where to go from there.
