Cara sat on the floor of the student lounge, reading through an equine novel - yes not normal for the teen, but she thought it was time to start pretending that she was a normal teenager.
"Cara!"
The sound of her name caused the girl to jump into the air. "How can I be of assistance, Aurora?" She asked the young girl who bounced across the room toward her.
"Can you please tell me a story?" The three year old asked as she plopped herself down on the floor in front of the teen. "Please?"
Cara glanced at the page number of the book she was reading and closed the book without marking the page. "A story?" She replied as she looked at the little girl. "What kind of story?"
Aurora bounced up and down as she clapped her hands in glee. "A fairy tale, please."
Cara nodded as she leaned back and looked at the ceiling of the lounge, her brain working as she sorted out the beginning of a story. "Once upon a time..." All fairy tales started with those words. "In a land far, far away. Was a village that was ruled by a King and Queen whom were loved by all of their people. The King quite often went out hunting with the men of the village and the Queen held parties that all the women could attend. Not long after the birth of their only child, a daughter with hair as black as ebony and eyes that were of an unusual colour, the royal adults vanished..."
"Oh no!" Aurora squeaked, her eyes wide. "What happened to the princess?"
"Although he had been banished by the King himself, the princess' uncle was brought to the castle to look after the girl." She smiled as the three year old's face relaxed. "Lord Alexander however wasn't happy with his new job of being the heir's guardian. If it wasn't for the child, he would now be wearing the crown! He hired a number of women to look after the child while he set to taking control of the kingdom..."
