Once she had finished dinner; a plate with spinach, broccoli, small roasted chicken breast with the skin removed and cooked celery, she headed to the gym. She didn’t exactly eat a lot of it, but since Lee had suggested to her that she needed to eat more, she was careful to make sure she frequented the cafeteria during the meal times – for no reason other than for people to say she had been there.
Once in the gymnastics studio, she headed straight for the changing rooms and quickly changed into the black and rose leotard that she had been given for the upcoming demonstration. She ran her hands down the front of her, as though she was trying to push any fat bits out of her. Turning around, she caught her reflection in the mirror and quickly turned away again as she didn’t like the distorted image that looked back at her. Anyone else who looked into the mirror would see her as she was, when Cara looked into it, she saw someone who needed to lose weight, the bulges of fat around the stomach making the leotard look bulky. She blindly pulled her hair back into a tight French braid and then wound it around into a neat bun that she held into place with hairpins and the whole thing was held together with at least half a can of hairspray.
Walking out of the changing room, she crossed the floor onto the large mat used for floor exercises and began to stretch out her muscles. Slowly she stretched out every muscle group, starting with her toes and finishing with her neck. Taking care to really work the muscles in her shoulder. She winced as the shoulder protested the movement at first, but once she got it moving, she was able to move it beyond the pain. She had always made a habit of working without any artificial preservatives – meaning that she worked through any pain without the use of painkillers (including cortisone) – and she wanted it to stay this way.
While she got her body ready for that evening’s workout, she thought over the events of that day since she was in here last. The early morning session she had with Mirrhi had gone really well, and she’d managed to get all the stalls cleaned and allowed Papillion and Púca to have a the morning in a pasture – and she’d even allowed herself some time to watch the little spotted colt romp around. The academic classes had pretty much passed in a blur, she had sat in the classes, participated in any group discussions, done the work and copied down the homework. The equestrian classes had been good. She had ridden Ember, her newest riding assignment in the Hunter/Jumper lesson. The silver dun pony had been wonderful to ride (once they worked out how to work together), and would have been better if she hadn’t had to stop a couple of times due to her stomach. The pony was a character, but the girl knew it wouldn't take them much longer to click.
Once she knew her muscles were ready she worked on the mat, just doing a very simple floor routine without the music. She started in one corner and made her way across the diagonal doing front hand spring after handspring. As she got within a couple of steps of the far corner, she did a front flip and as soon as her feet touched the ground bounced up into a backward flip.
