Hey everyone,
You may have heard it on the news, Christchurch (the main city centre I live near) was hit by a 6.3 earthquake today (22nd February) at 12:51pm. The city centre looks like a nuclear bomb has gone off as the historic building's couldn't handle the shallow quake (it was only 5km deep) and they just crumbled. Unlike the one that happened almost 6 months ago (7.1 quake at 4:23am), there are heaps of fatalities. The Cathedral, that escaped any real damage during the 7.1, lost it's spire today.
Obviously, I'm okay. I was at my mum's (she lives about 50km south of the city centre and the building we were in rocked and rocked. The children we look after were awesome and dived under the tables. The two boys who were asleep, remained asleep. Since the 12:51 quake, the city had been rocked by about 20 other quakes. Mum lives in a pole house (we weren't in there) and she went up to check the house. There were dishes all over the floor, that had fallen from the bench, along with the eggs that had also been on the bench.
I live 30km south west of the city. I arrived home not too long ago. The place hasn't even been touched. I kind of envisioned broken plates all over the floors, the chimney down, stuff like that, but the house is fine. On a really good note, Nigel is on his way home.

Lucky you're alright. I heard about it at work and couldn't remember where in New Zealand you lived so thought I'd check in. It's awful so many people have been killed already. So much crap has been happening in the Southern Hemisphere lately it seems.

Heard about it this morning and all I could pray for was that you were alright. My sister lives on North Island so she was lucky.
Hope all is going well.

Oh my gosh, I hadn't heard this. I should really watch the news more.
I'm glad your okay, and your family, although my heart goes out to all those who weren't so lucky.

I saw this on Yahoo this morning (my news source) and quickly checked in to see that you were alright. I'm so sorry to hear about this. Are the horses fine? I bet they get very scared in an earthquake. I'm glad your house is alright. Your family, along with those families that have lost loved ones will be in my prayers. I'm glad your house and everything was fine. I know that must be a very scary expierence.

If you want to know more about it have a read through stuff.co.nzI watch the news and all I want to do is cry. That's the city I grew up in. I used to walk down those streets to get to get to school. And now, it's all rubble.
