As you know, I'm pregnant and I'm getting married on April the 23rd (easter saturday).
I have a very mixed family as my parents divorced years ago and mum remarried shortly after (not the reason they broke up), and then dad got married a couple of years ago. Mum's hubby and I have never seen eye to eye, but he was nice enough to put a roof over my head when dad told me he was moving in with his girlfriend (yeah, he pretty much kicked me out).
The wedding is pretty much all sorted out, it's going to be on mum and Bruce's property, Bruce is supplying a couple of animals for the dinner, all in all, he's fully dropped into the father-of-the-bride role.
When I first phoned my dad up about me getting married, he asked who was giving me away, him or Bruce. I didn't know at that stage so I told him just that. A couple of weeks have past since then and the invites have been sent out. Dad phoned me up a couple of nights ago - a phone call I had been putting off as I had asked Bruce if he would give me away and I was then in two minds about the decision. I told dad and he went nuts!!! Okay, maybe not nuts, but he told me he was disappointed (in me) and him and Tania (his wife) wouldn't be attending. The phone was then handed to Tania and she had the cheek to lecture me!!!! It's like OMG what am I?? 16? How DARE she think that she can lecture me about MY wedding!!! "What will your in-laws think of you?" She said.
All of you that say your parents are really unfair to you and they never see your side of the story, I totally know where you're coming from!!
I really need to phone dad back and try and clear the air with him. As we finished our last conversation, he told me I would always be welcome in their house if I was passing through (he lives in the North Island), and Tania was yelling in the background "no she's not". However, I won't phone him while I'm on my own, I need Nigel here as he's the rock I cling to when I feel I'm drowning (I know, really soppy).
