AUSTINELIZABETHSAVAGE
Shine a light through an open door
Full Name>> Austin Elizabeth Savage
Nicknames>> N/A
Age>> July 8th, 1990; 21
Staff or Student>> Foal Handling Instructor; Stallion Handling Instructor
House>> N/A
Gender>> Female
Sexuality>> Heterosexual (bi-curious)
Play By>> Scarlett Johansson
Alias>> Nevvy
Turn away 'cause I need you more
Personality>> Having been raised on a breeding farm and having been a part of the business since she was practically a toddler, Austin has an excellent work ethic. She is always ready to pitch in, and rarely leaves a job unfinished. Patience is not something she has a lot of, which is odd for such a successful trainer. Though it does sort of make sense; whatever patience she does have is given to the horses so there is nothing left over for anything else. Austin, like her dog, is intelligent to a fault. She learns very quickly, and has a near insatiable thirst for knowledge, but she is very particular about certain things. To the point where she can't sleep if she knows something is out of place, or will halt a training session to fix something small. This is really a very mild form of OCD that was never diagnosed. As for relationships Austin has trouble staying with one person for longer than a few weeks. She tends to bounce around, keeping her heart protected even during her short relationships, and moving on as soon as affection threatens.
Likes>> stallions, thunder storms, foals, music, summer
Dislikes>> cold, overconfidence, electric fencing, waiting, egomaniacs
Fears>> Losing her job. Settling down. Rejection.
Hopes>> To start riding competitively again. To fall in love.
Secrets>> She was engaged once, but she caught her fiance with another woman a week before the wedding.
It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
Appearance>> Despite being of average height and average weight, there is nothing visibly average about Austin. Standing at 5 feet and 4 inches she is small enough to fit a large pony, but tall enough to wrap her legs around a huge Warmblood. Her body is tanned and fit from riding and barn work. Austin's hair changes color quite often, though her natural shade is a nearly white blond. Darker colors seem to suit her, and so she often has red or mahogany locks. While her hair is rarely the same color twice her eyes are constant; the wild blue of the ocean, with an even darker rim around the iris.
Austin's clothes are both sturdy and professional. Pantsuits, blue jeans, and button downs make up much of her wardrobe, and the rest is riding clothes. It is a rare thing to see Austin Savage in a dress, and even rarer if that dress is completed by heels. Makeup is minimal - she really doesn't need it after all.
Markings>> Both ears are pierced.
But I’ve gotta let it go
Medical History>> Age 5; chicken pox.
Age 10; dislocated shoulder. Equine related injury.
Age 13; mild concussion from falling off a horse.
Age 15; bruised ribs and broken arm from being kicked by a horse.
Age 19; broken arm, two cracked ribs, broken collar bone, sprained ankle, and heavy bruising on the left side of her body. Equine related injury.
Criminal History>> N/A
Full History>> Austin Savage was born on the full moon, in a barn, during a thunder storm. Her parents were out on foal watch when Austin decided she was coming early. There was no time to get her to the hospital, or even up to the house. So they just used a foaling kit and wrapped her in a clean towel until the rain finally stopped.
From the beginning Austin was a healthy and robust child. Being the youngest of four, and with the other three being boys, she was constantly trying to keep up with her siblings. By the time she was eight years old she could throw a foot ball, hit a base ball, catch a fish, and jump a horse. Pushing herself meant greater risk though, and Austin had a habit of getting hurt. Usually it was nothing major, but every once in a while the whole family would rush to the ER and sit for hours until they could finally see a doctor. Austin herself couldn't care less, though everyone else was worried sick about her.
This never-back-down attitude carried over into her school work, enough so that Austin was taking AP classes two grade levels above other kids her age by middle school. Knowledge was like a drug to her, and she spent almost as much time studying as she did at the barn. And she spent a lot of time at the barn.
Vanessa and Matt Savage owned a Warmblood breeding and training facility in California called Tradewind Farm. They bought, retrained, and sold countless A rated horses. And from the time they could sit on a horse their children were a part of the business. Austin was putting show miles on green ponies when she was seven, and doing in-hand work with foals when she was ten. She facilitated her first birth at fourteen, but her real passion was for the colts.
From her early teens Austin showed a considerable knack for dealing with stallions. It started when a boarder's Welsh stallion let himself out of his stall and simply disappeared. The entire staff searched frantically for him the entire day, but he was nowhere to be found until Austin came walking down the driveway leading the little stallion with a handful of treats. When asked where she had found him the girl simply shrugged and said he was grazing on the side of the road when she got off the bus.
While it was illegal for a minor to show a stallion, Austin ended up doing most of the handling and training for the stallions owned by Tradewind Farm.
When Austin was sixteen she graduated from high school and received one of her eldest brother's prized Border Collie pups as a graduation present. The dog was immediately glued to Austin's side as she continued her work with the stallions and colts, and Mosca soon learned to keep herself safe from hoofs and teeth.
Austin's first two years of college she did over the internet so she could continue to work with her family's horses, but her last two years she went to school in Utah. When she finally moved back she was surprised to find that her parents had gifted her a beautiful Knabstrupper colt; the first to be born on their farm. Austin spent a year working with her parents' again before deciding that she wanted to get a job, preferably teaching.
When she found out about Blue Ridge Austin was hooked. The knowledge that she could bring both her horse and her dog only made it seem a better option. So after speaking extensively with her parents, sending in her sadly bare resume, doing a phone interview, and finally accepting the job, Austin packed her bags and her pets and made the trip to the academy.
We found love in a hopeless place
Pet Name>> Mosca
Registered Name>> Tradewind Fly Away Home
Age>> 4
Species>> Canine
Breed>> Border Collie
Registry>> ABCA
Personality>> Intelligence isn't simply expected of a Border Collie; it's a given. And Mosca is no exception. It takes only a few repetitions for her to learn a new trick, and a single stern 'no' from her master will quell any thoughts of bad behavior. Except that behavior which isn't preceded by thought; for alongside intelligence comes neurotic tendencies of many herding dogs. Once Mosca is in 'herding mode' almost nothing can snap her out of it until she believes her job to be done. Mosca doesn't do well with very small children as she often thinks of them as animals to be herded and corralled, and doesn't understand that she must treat them gently. She would never snap, or even nip, of course, but she will grow increasingly frustrated when they fail to listen and eventually burst into annoyed yapping.
History>> Mosca was born on Tradewind Farm. She spent her first few weeks playing with her six siblings and nursing. Once she was old enough to be weaned she moved into Austin's room. Despite her slightly elevated 'pet' status, Mosca was still a working dog and so began her training at an early age for herding and agility. As she grew Mosca's repertoire of tricks expanded, and Austin started bringing her everywhere she could - horse shows and auctions included. So Mosca knows how to behave around horses. Once Austin was out of school, Mosca was permanently glued to her master's side. Despite the length of the trip Austin decided to drive to Blue Ridge instead of fly so that she could keep Mosca with her.
