Laurena walked into the rec room -- to escape the cold. As a southern California girl, the coldest weather she has experienced is 55 or so. She sat down at a table for 4, and picked up the People magazine. She skimmed through the first few pages, and scoffed at pictures of Tom Cruise and Katy Holmes' recent split. Her hands were too cold to continue flipping the pages, so she tossed the magazine to the side, and crossed her arms. I could really use some mittens right now... or a stove. She gazed across the room -- there were a couple of kids in the room, but she still felt alone. She had never been the new kid. Back home, she didn't have a problem talking to anyone, or getting anyone's attention. But, no one seemed to even acknowledge her presence. She arrived to Blue Ridge Riding Academy yesterday, and had met no one. Not even her roommate was in sight. She sighed, and flicked an invisible piece of lint off of her sweater. She pulled out her cell phone, and began playing Angry Birds, and hastily attempted to beat her high scores. Maybe if she pretended to look not interested in her surroundings, someone would approach her. Reverse psychology, do your magic! She chuckled in her head as soon as that thought left her brain. OOC: Bold is her talking aloud, italics are her thoughts. ^.^

Beck was walking around campus, unsure why. Tick, tick, tick. He was just fiddling with his phone, not knowing why he's looking like a total goof, head glued to the electronic screen, while trying to get some excercise. At least that's what he thinks he is doing at the moment. He totally zoned out at the moment. He has never been like this. 'Guess today is my lucky day..' He gave a shrug as he put slipped his phone back in his jean pocket and decided to visit an area, room, place, etc.
After walking around, he spotted the Recreation Room. He has never gotten the time to relax or spend time there. Might as well start now. He slowly walked in, wondering if someone else was in there. It turns out there is. It was another girl, just doing something on her phone. His first thought was to quickly slip away before she would notice, yet on second thought, he might go introduce himself and make a new friend. 'Yeah.. second plan would be fine.' He made the final decision as he entered with his full body in the room. He really doesn't have anything else to do. "Oh, didn't know someone was already in here.." He spoke up, hoping the girl wouldn't mind sharing the room as he ran a hand through his hair.

Laurena raised her head at the sound of someone else's voice. Standing before her was a boy, who looked a bit older than her. He had long, dark hair, and was certainly cute. She locked her phone, thrust it into her lap, straightened up, and smiled warmly. Yeah, I didn't know anyone else was in here, either. Looks like both of us should go get glasses or something. She chuckled. Making friends is her strong suit, but so far at Blue Ridge, it hadn't been going very well. Everyone is so different from her Californian counterparts, from the way they communicate to the way they dress, and everything in between. Getting acclimated to the new culture is going to take some time, and she hopes the process can speed itself up by making a couple of friends to help her out, especially since she arrived in the middle of the semester. Not only is she the new kid, but she is the super new kid; the one who arrives mid semester. She pointed to the two empty chairs in from of her. Take a seat, dude. The chairs are pretty lonely. She smiled again, hoping her advances toward friendship were working in her favor.

He chuckled along with the girl at her comment. "No kidding, bifocals or single vision? Or maybe even contacts?" Now he was just teasing about the topic. This girl wasn't half bad, he could guess she had some funny personality in her. He sometimes likes people like that, especially in girls. Maybe they could eventually be friends or something? Who knows, and here they are, talking like they were already good friends. 'Well something is off to a good start today.' He thought to himself as the conversation continued on.
"Take a seat, dude. The chairs are pretty lonely" He heard the girl say and gave another grin. "Aww, poor chairs... I'll keep them company." He gave a light laugh as he plopped down, near the girl. He could felt the chair's spring slightly restrain, making him bounce slightly. If the chairs had and springs that is. They just look too nice. "Oh where are my manners? I'm Beck, by the way.." He commented, his grin turning into a small smile. He offered an outstretched hand for her to shake. He hoped the girl would introduce herself as well.
OOC: Ack, sorry for the bad post. x.X Sorry to make you wait, too! <33

Heh, well I'm more of a monocle type of girl. You strike me as a contacts dude. Laurena cocked her head an raised her eyebrows, in a joking manner, and put her left hand over her left eye, to mimic a monocle. She rubbed the back of her neck with her left hand, and relaxed her sitting position. She placed her phone on the table and smiled warmly. Ah, it seems like you found your manners! Hi Beck! I'm Laurena, but I go by Cal. Long story. She grinned big, as she knew whenever she brought up her nickname, that there would be an inquiry about it, followed by her explanation. The explanation, that her mother and father both expected her to be a boy, so they picked out Callum to be her name. When her and her twin were born, however, they were both girls. Laurena became her name, and Callum her middle. But now, Cal reminds her of her home state, California. Hence, Cal. She looked at Beck's hand. No one has ever offered to shake her hand before. She shook his hand back, and raised an eyebrow. So, is that like the Kentucky way of life? To shake hands? She laughed, hoping he would get her sense of humor.
