After she had thrown her bags into her apartment, Andie changed into a pair of her most comfortable jodhpurs and paddock boots and made her way out of the building, across campus and into the White Oak barn.
She walked down the aisle, she was earlier than her appointment time, so she had a chance to say hello to some of the horses. Scope out the new ones and reacquaint herself with the ones she knew from before her graduation. Her mare, who would be arriving in a day or so, would probably be housed in this barn anyway, that is until she spoke with the broodmare manager and ask him about the chances of having Tess breed with one of the stallions at the academy.
She finally headed to the office, smiling when she saw the door was slightly ajar. Then checking her watch to make sure she wasn't overly early, she pushed the door open a little more and stuck her head through the gap. "I'm not too early am I, Ms Carr?" She asked. Again, she knew that she could have gone for the more casual use of first names but she respected the woman behind the desk too much to address her informally without the woman's permission.

Katherine checked her daily planner and arched her eyebrows at the name of the person she had coming for an interview that morning and shook her head with a fond smile. She was sad every time a student moved away from the academy - even if it was because of graduation - but she couldn't understand why the girl had decided to return.
She closed the planner and went back to her computer, making notes of the horses who needed to be wormed and the ones who needed their feet done. Her own mare, the Arabian cross, had thrown one of her shoes the day before so needed to have all of them replaced.
She looked up from the computer as there was a tap on the door and she gave a warm smile to the young woman who entered. "You're a little early." She said as she rose to her feet and gestured toward the seat to the side of the desk. "But I'm not currently busy. Come and have a seat." She lowered herself back into her own chair once the female was seated. "So, what brings you back to our wonderful school?" She knew that Andie wanted a job as a stable hand, but she was curious to know what happened to the female's previous job.

Andie returned the woman's smile as she crossed the office and sat casually in the comfortable chair. She had been in this very office a handful of times during her time as a student, especially when she was overwhelmed with a tide of memories of her mother. Ms Carr had never judged her, only listened.
The nineteen year old wrapped her arms around her stomach as she thought about how much to tell the woman. "My position as a working-pupil came to an end and I was asked to leave the barn." She replied. It wasn't exactly the truth, but it also wasn't an outright lie either. She just failed to mention that the reason her position had come to and end was to to a fling she'd had with her boss. "During my time there though, I watched the pregnancies of two of his prized mares and I'd be keen to watch a few more foalings, and, if I'm allowed, I was thinking of breeding my mare to one of the stallions here." She giggled and shrugged. "And horses aside, I'm going to coach the cheerleaders..." She shook her head. Her words sounded like she had come to take over from Sara, whom she had given squad captaincy to. "Well, I'm here to help out if Sara needs it.

Katherine nodded at Andie's words. Her maternal instincts told her that the girl wasn't quite telling the whole truth, but she didn't want to push it.
The barn manager turned to her computer. "Well, we have an opening in all of the barns, but if you want to work with pregnant mares, how about I assign you to work in Evening Primrose?" She suggested. "Sir Solomon will be happy to have the extra help, as his only current assistant is a student." She typed Andie's name into the computer and then wrote out a quick email is sent it through to Peter, giving him a little background information on her new barn hand. She then pulled out her phone and sent a text through to the man. "You can head over to see him whenever you are ready." She told the woman. "Oh! Before you go. You mentioned a mare. Are you bringing any other horses?" The equine information was something that she got with the information of students who have been accepted into the academy, with adults however, she only found out about their horses when they arrived.

Andie nodded as the woman spoke of there being a space in each of the barns for her to work in. She looked up at the woman, her eyes glowing, when Katherine said that she'd assign her to working in the broodmare barn. Sure, she had comment about wanting to watch more foalings, but she hadn't done it to sway the woman's decision. "Thank you!" She squealed, grinning from ear to ear.
She waited quietly as the woman finished on her computer and then made a move to stand up, then halting as the manager spoke to her again. "I have a double registered Hanoverian/Thoroughbred mare, named Tess." She gave a soft smile as she thought about the mare. "And you'll remember Quill." She hadn't been able to get rid of her Dutch Warmblood, and the other gelding she'd had while she was a student here she had sent back to her grandparents, so that he could teach other riders how to be the best that they could be.
She rose to her feet and gave the woman a warm smile. "Thanks, Ms Carr." She said. "I won't let you down." She wiggled her eyebrows as she laughed at herself and then headed out of the office.
