Richard Stone walked around his classroom, he placed a copy of The Secret Garden on each table. Out of his three classes, this was his smallest, but if it had been any bigger, he would have split it into two classes.
To start off the year, he wanted to work on each student's ability to read independently. They were going to read one chapter at a time, out of class time, and during class time, they were going to dissect the chapter that the students at read for homework. He was going to ask those that enjoyed reading if they could hold off reading ahead of the class.
Walking back to the front of the room, he grabbed one of the markers for the dry-erase board and wrote: The Secret Garden across the space and they would spend the first class discussing what the children already knew about the book, and even those who didn't know anything about it, he was going to get them to really think about what the title of the book told them.
She capped the marker and walked over to his desk where he sat down and waited for the first of the students to arrive.

Well, he was really going to be early for Language Arts, Tony realised as he rounded a corner and found the classroom in front of him. Expecting to get lost whenever he went to a new class meant that now he was actually getting pretty good at figuring his way through the halls was resulting in him being early for everything. Which was definitely not a bad thing, he'd decided, as it allowed him to get a nice desk and stuff, and, besides, being early never hurt anyone, did it?
With that thought in mind he swung into the classroom merrily, unsurprised to see that there was only one other student there and the teacher - a Mr. Stone, if his research was correct (and he was pretty sure that it was). "Good morning!" He said brightly in greeting, and after a brief ponder of seating arrangements went with his normal option of a seat at the front of the class. That was generally the best place to sit to make a good impression upon the teacher, after all, even if it did mean that he wasn't going to be near the one other student present, which he felt a bit bad about. Still, on balance, it was probably more important to make the right impression upon Mr. Stone than it was to maybe make a friend. In this circumstance, anyway.
Sitting at a front desk where he got a clear view of the board, he unpacked the materials required for class - notebook and folder, coordinated in dark blue, and a multitude of stationary - before sliding his backpack under the desk and reaching for the copy of The Secret Garden that was in front of him. From this, and the title upon the board, he was going to assume that this was what they were studying. He'd never read the book before - though he had heard of it - so that was something to look forward to. Tony was not the most academic of people - much to the cutting disappointment of his parents - but he did always try hard to class, concentrating fiercely and putting the time in on assignments.
Retrieving a pen from his jumbled mess of a pencil case, he opened up his notebook to the first page - ah, the joys of a blank book! - and wrote the date at the top in his scrappy handwriting. Neatness was something he'd never managed to achieve while writing.

Miranda threw the second to last of her new notebooks into her backpack, where a bag of writing utensils already resided, along with the notebooks that were in use already. Also in the bag was a scrapbook journal type thing that she had started for her work with Tanya. It was like the one she had been asked to keep with Aros for the Rescue Horse class, but this time, it was mostly of her own free will.
She walked into the classroom and smiled at the teacher, "Good morning, Mr. Stone." She saw two kids already settled in, and made a quick decision. She slid into a seat in the front, with a space between her and the younger boy. She put her backpack down and smiled at the boy, then looked at the book in front of her. She picked it up and flipped it over to the back to skim over the summary. The title seemed familiar, as if she had read it before, but she couldn't recall the story, so it had probably been a while back, or she had just started and never finished the book. She pulled out her notebook and a pencil, then put the book to the side as she looked at Mr. Stone, waiting for further instructions.

After placing Samurai into his stall after Natural Horsemanship, Jackson rubbed his nose and then picked up his bag that held his notebooks. "Bye boy, I'll be back soon." Jackson said as he turned and started to walk down the aisle. As he started to walk up the steps to the main building at Blue Ridge, Jackson checked the time. He was going to be pretty early to Language Arts. Hopefully he wouldn't be the first though, Jackson thought to himself. Opening up the doors to the long and filled hallway, Jackson started walking down it, towards his teachers classroom. Finding the room marked Language Arts, Jackson looked in seeing three students, and then four counting the teacher. Walking inside he saw the title of a book apparently. The Secret Garden, Jackson thought. He had never heard of it but then again, he never really had chose to read. "Good morning." he greeted the teacher and then saw two students towards the front, thankfully another guy, and then a lone girl in the back. Walking to the back of the room as well, Jackson sat down at the desk next to her, giving her a faint smile.

Slinging his backpack over his shoulder, Riker headed out of the classroom, after the teacher had dismissed them. He headed out of the room and into the hallway again, it was still filled with students. Walking down the hallway, Riker headed to his next class which he had to pull up on his phone. Language Arts, with Mr.Stone Riker said to himself inside his head. Now looking at the rooms doors, trying to find anything to help him with the classroom search. Riker finally saw the right class, and walked in. Seeing that he wasn't the first one here either, Riker walked up to the teacher's desk, needing to tell him about the list. "Hello Mr.Stone. I'm Riker Gauge, I'm new so I might not be on your list." Riker told him, as the Main Office told him to do so. Seeing that there were books on the desks when he turned around, Riker decided to sit in the middle of the room, apart from the back. Sitting down in his seat, he was still a fair distance away fom people, and he read "book reports" on the middle of the board. Then looking down he saw the book was called, "The Secret Garden".

The sound of the alarm on his phone buzzing let the boy know it was time to get up. He stretched his arms above his head, and rolled over, half-expecting to see his brother in the bed across the room, but it was empty. His thick brows furrowed, then, realization hit him. He was in Blue Ridge now. Remember? The seventeen year old smiled and shook his head for having a 'blonde' moment, even though no one in his family had blonde hair. He lightly groaned as he sat up and pushed the quilt off of him. There were no heavy boots walking down the hall to see he was awake, no smell of fresh brewed coffee and frying eggs. No sight of his mutt of a dog coming in to greet him.
The boy slid off of the bed and quickly got dressed, rubbing his eyes. He hadn't slept the greatest last night, but it was the first night in years he wasn't in his bedroom back home. At least he had his favorite pillows with him, so it wasn't all bad. Jesse slipped on his boots, jeans, and t-shirt. He shoved a cap on his head, not caring how messy his hair was at the moment. With his back pack in hand, he swung it over his shoulder and walked out of the door, on his way to first class at the academy. Language Arts. His nose wrinkled at the thought of reading. He could do it easy enough, he just didn't like too.
He heard a bell sound as he stepped into the building, feeling like 'the new kid'. He easily found the classroom and stepped inside, his greenish blue eyes landing on the professor first. He grinned at the man, and dipped his head, before turning to the class. Immediately, Jesse recognized a girl from the barn. Her poor horse had been spooked by his neon colored trailer. But, she was sitting in the back of the class. A darker skinned kid was at the front, as well as a blonde, with a space between them. The room was rather spaced out, so Jesse walked over to a desk against the closest wall and sat in the second row, lowering his bag to the floor as he pulled out a pencil, and a cheap yellow notebook. He flipped it open and tucked the cover underneath. Before scanning the book that lay on his desk.

Avery walked confidently throughout the school, giving off the image she was not to be labeled as the new lost girl. In truth, she actually was quite lost, though her hard head pushed her to go on like a boss. From a sight of someone that was new to the school, the girl didn’t look anything like a newbie. That was the look she was doing her best to go for. The brunette made a small scoff as the memory of her old English class in California. She had gotten kicked out to the hallway many times for “disrupting the class”. Avery knew she couldn’t act too testy this time due to the promise she had given her grandmother, but she wasn’t going to be nice.
The brunette walked in, satisfied to see that she wasn’t too late. The class was already pretty much there, and she rolled her eyes. The classes on the east coast were so small compared to back home. Avery marched up to the teacher before announcing her name “Avery Jacobs. I’m new.” Then, she twirled around and spied for her seat. Immediately, Avery drifted out to the back of the classroom. She liked the back because the teacher couldn’t catch things that easily there.
Dropping her backpack on the floor, she sat gracefully down before picking up out her surprisingly organized notebook. She had color coordinated them for each class, purple being for L/A. The girl’s turquoise eyes looked down before she made a face. ‘The Secret Garden’ was definitely something she had heard of, though she knew it was one of those books her grandmother liked. At the thought of her grandmother, the brunette remembered her promise and turned the grossed out face back to her usual blocked expression and flipped the book over. Her eyes skimmed over the back of the book, her curiosity actually picking up as she read more about it.

When the second bell sounded, Richard rose from his seat, picked up his copy of The Secret Garden and walked around to perch on the corner of his desk. "Welcome to Language Arts. For those of you who haven't met me, I'm Mr Stone." He greeted the students seated around the room. "As you will see, you all have a copy of this book on your desk." He held his book up, even if his was more well-loved than the copy they had. "I quite like this book, as it talks about a wide range of things while we follow the life of Mary Lennox." He looked around the class, trying the gauge the reaction of the students. "Yes, it is an old book, but it shouldn't be too hard to follow." He lowered his voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "And once we finish the book, we're going to watch parts of the movie to compare them against each other."
He stood up off the desk and walked across to the whiteboard. "I would like to spend the first half of the class just letting you read through the first chapter and then I'll open the floor for some discussion on your thoughts of it." He said. "If you haven't finished the chapter when I ask you to put the books down, don't stress." He walked back to his desk and picked up a cardboard box and then walked around the room placing a packet of sticky notes on everyone's table. "So you can keep notes as you read and stick them on the relevant page."
The next box he walked around with, delivered a small black electronic dictionary onto each students' table, as he knew that students were put into this class due to them not quite struggling to read, but not quite being able to comprehend everything they read, so he hoped that with the dictionary available, they could help solve problems themselves without remaining silent because they didn't want to look stupid in front of their peers.

Carlos was almost late, making it to the door right as the second bell rang. He gave the teacher an apologetic look as he slipped inside at last minute and sat down in the front row, taking the book, dictionary, and pad of sticky-notes silently. The Spanish boy knew he wasn't in the class due to comprehension issues, but rather, he'd been put in the class due to his language issues with english, in the hopes that he'd catch onto more of the english language and not seem so... behind.
The boy listened as the teacher spoke, absently flipping through the book with one hand while pulling out a pencil with the other in which to jot down his notes. As soon as the teacher stopped speaking, Carlos opened his book and mentally face-palmed upon seeing the written english. He wasn't the greatest at reading it, just like he didn't get some of the slang the other students used and whatnot.
The boy studied the page, the words slowly forming. After a few minutes, he realized that he'd have to use the dictionary that had been given to him and pulled it close to him, hoping there was an english-to-spanish translation for him to use, less he'd be there for ages trying to struggle through the book.

From where he sat his desk, he calmly surveyed the class as they began to read. His gaze stopped on the student who had managed to sneak into the class just as the bell rang, and technically he had made it before the bell stopped so Richard didn't call him out before giving the class instructions.
The English teacher jogged his memory, there was something about one of the newer students that he had been told. The man's eyebrows shot up as he suddenly remembered, and from the look on the boy's face, he knew in an instant that this boy was Carlos.
Pulling open one of his drawers he pulled out another copy of The Secret Garden, not that anyone would know from reading the cover, and walked down to where the dark haired teen sat. "Carlos?" He said quietly, so not to disturb the rest of the class, a slight question in his voice. "I'm sorry about the book. My Spanish isn't great, but you might find this book a little easier to understand, rather than trying to spend the time trying to translate it on that dictionary." He placed the book he was holding on the table. "Happy reading."

( w i l d , h o r s e s , I , w a n n a , b e , l i k e , y o u )THROWING CAUTION TO THE WIND, I'LL RUN FREE TOO Book bag slung over her shoulder and boots clicking against the marble hallways as Ellie jogged her way down the hallways and past kids who still were out in the hallways. She remeber having Mr. Stone for her last class and ever since her father had gotten ill she left to go be with him. Luckly, he didn't pass away from the stroke and he is now on the mend. This time when she came back she got to bring her horse Red with her and couldn't wait to get with her friends and just talk to them. She missed them like crazy and just wanted to be with everyone.
Ellie ran up the stairs skipping two at a time as she climbed them. She had heard her alarm go off this morning, but she didn't wake up like she wanted to. She was going to get up early and get ready and go to the barn and see Red before heading to class, but she blew that. She found the room that her language arts class was going to be in and tried to stop, but the slick boots made her slide alittle bit past the door and stumble alittle. She blushed alittle as she took a deep breath and cracked teh door up. She peeked her head in and slipped her body into the class hoping not to be seen by Mr. Stone and found a desk that was closer to the door as she slipped into and found the book and noticed kids were reading the book. Ellie fumbled the book open and began to read the first chapter.

Calvin sighed. He had never been the good at reading maps and so it took him a long time to finnaly figure out that his Language Arts class was across the school. He was about half way to the class when the bell rang and so he picked up a jog. Calvin was determind not to be late, but fate decided to disagree with his wishes, and he was late for his first class.
Calvin opened the door and quietly walked in he didn't want to disturb anyone, and he didn't feel as bad that he was late when he realized that another student had just got there also. He found a desk at the back and stuck his bag under the desk, before picking up a copy of The Secret Garden. Calvin had never been one to read, but mainly it was because he didn't have the time to read on the cattle ranch, except for on the off season and that is when the kids were busy with other school stuff.
The seventeen year old quickly picked up the book, that everyone seemed to be reading and he flipped to chapter one. Calvin started reading it, but not to far into he realized that this book was not one that intrested him, and he could tell that this was going to be a long class.

Avery fixed the teacher an attentive look as the man went on to tell them that they would be watching parts of the movie to compare with the book. She nearly smiled at that. Definitely something she was quite good at. The brunette raised her brow an inch before fixating her stare on the new student that had walked in late. She was feeling somewhat annoyed about how others stared at her when she walked in late, so as stupid as it was, Avery was going to do the same. Before she could really give the boy a stare however, the teacher went on to tell them to read the first chapter.
Already bored with the thought of reading a book, Avery sighed and flipped open the first page. Her eyes landed on the first words, and she found herself getting distracted once more again. Another new student had popped into the room, one that looked quite utterly confused. Exhaling, the brunette picked up the book once more to attempt to read and settled on the first sentence. Avery felt like bonking her head after it, but when to read on more. Already, the girl was cringing at the fact she was reading “The Secret Garden”. What would that say about her?
Avery frowned before rereading the second sentence again. The words made it into her orbs, though they hadn’t been acknowledge in her brain. Her eyes flew up for the third time as yet another new student popped through! She gave him an undeserving look before turning back to her book. Avery was in foul mood today, and she wasn’t planning on being nice to anyone. The brunette finally managed to get through to the next page and nearly grinned when the man placed a dictionary on her desk. Avery was quite happy it wasn’t one of those tedious humongous books. The device was definitely something the brunette actually thought she might use in the future.

Carlos looked up as the teacher's shadow fell across his desk and for a few moments, he thought he'd done something wrong. His eyes widened slightly when Mr. Stone simply took the English version of the book they were assigned to and handed him a Spanish translated version. He was positive the relief he felt was evident on his face and in his expression, and he took the book quickly, giving the teacher a shy smile. He flipped the book open and nearly laughed when he saw his native tongue written down.
Carlos quickly read through the first few sentences, getting the idea that he was going to enjoy this particular book, before realizing that the teacher was still there. He looked up again, going a little red in shock at his disrespect to the man, "Gracias, sir." He said softly, so as to not bother or disrupt the rest of the class. "Thank you."
He was satisfied with his comments, and glanced back down at the book, flipping it over and reading the back of the cover quickly before flipping to the first page again and starting to read in earnest. Carlos guessed that it would be ok for him to take his notes in Spanish as well, and scribbled notes down on the paper that the teacher had passed out while he read.
