Sam’s eyes, nose and cheeks glowed a fierce red hue as she walked out of White Ribbon. She had been crying for the last hour, and though it may be slightly mean, she was glad that Keri had been gone most of the day. The brunette hesitated to walk into White Oak and see her horses. Des had stuck his head out, glad to have his owner visit him, but Sam only gave him a quick facial rubbing, then continued to Goliat’s stall. ”Hey handsome.” Her voice was soft, and full of regret. Her decision was burning away at her, and every time she had nearly stopped crying, she was sucked back in.
She clipped Goliat’s lead to his halter and guided him to an open pair of cross ties. Sam began grooming the gelding slowly, delaying the inevitable. The bay coated horse began to shimmer within minutes, after Sam had gotten some coat spray to make him glisten. If today would be their last day together, she may as well pamper the horse. She wiped the tears from her cheeks as she walked to the tack room, returning his grooming supplies for now. It hadn’t been planned on what she would do with them after today.
The brunette led her gelding out of the barn, letting one hand press against his neck softly. Sam entered the arena, glancing around frantically for a blue four horse trailer, and truck. Luckily there were none in sight, and she stopped the gelding to mount. He snorted happily, ready to go to work, unaware of what was going to happen within the next half hour or so. Sam sniffled as she walked Goliat along the rail. Anything like this was always painful for Sam to think about, let alone do. "Alright, lets go big boy." She whispered quietly, trying to contain her light sob.
Sam pulled her phone out of her pocket to check her reflection, to see what horror the good doctor would get to see. "Wow, you look like crap." She grinned lightly, only to lose it again in reminder of what was to happen. Her eyes glitted from her phone, that was already making it's was to her pocket, to the incoming truck and trailer.
A tall man stepped out of the truck, obviously a rather rich man. His was grinning softly, seeing his new horse and the previous owner in the arena. Sam swallowed hard, then rode the gelding towards the man. "Hello, Dr. Hart." Her heart sank seeing the man. She pictured herself shifting into a wolf, and sinking her teeth into the man.
"Hello Miss Lawrence. I'm guessing you are saying your final goodbyes?" What was your first clue you *** Sam nodded lightly, looking down at her horse and patting his neck. "I am." The man frowned in sympathy when she did, but simply nodded in return. "Well, I will give you some time to do that then." Sam thanked him and returned to riding him as the man walked away. It wasn't that he was a bad man, it was the fact that she was letting him purchase her horse, since she couldn't handle a third horse, that made her hate him.
Sam walked the gelding around the arena, leaning forward, wrapping her arms around his neck as far as she could and whispered. "I am going to miss you my beautiful." More tears began streaming down her cheeks.
