After lunch break, Toby was pleased to see that the barn hands had in fact, been able to re-plow the arena for his later class, which was for the more advanced students. He was happy, it would be the first time he actually taught the class, as most students seemed to transfer before they even got to the next semester.
The cowboy had washed Blackie and put him up, as the hotter part of the day was harder on darker horses. And, he was older, plus, the students didn't need as much of a babysitter in this class. He opened the gate and led his two bay horses through, closing it behind him. He put the water glass to his lips and got a piece of ice, crunching on it as he tied both of his horses to the rail. They had been worked a couple hours earlier, so they weren't fresh. There was five minutes until class actually started. But giving there were only a couple of students, it would be more mellow and chilled then the previous one.
Toby rested his cup on the top of a post. He sighed and put his hands on his hips, glad he was wearing a cowboy hat to shield his face. Even though the weather was getting cooler, it was still rather hot with no shade in the arena itself.

Boots clicked the sidewalk as the spurs jingled at the everytime she took a step. She was told several times today to now wear her spurs to class, but it was just easier to leave them on than take them off and forget them. Ellie rounded the corner of White Oak Barns with the boots clicking and spurs a'jingling. Ellie heard a low nicker as she smiled and walked down the isle to be greated by a red nose. She rubbed the forehead of the red dun gelding named Mercury. Hey there buddy...Ready for our first class? She said with a grin and grabbed the lead rope off the stall peg and walked the red dun out of his stall. Ellie brushed the gelding down, picked his hoofs, and brushed his mane and tail before putting the saddle pad on the back of the red dun. Ellie grinned and placed the saddle ontop of the gelding and began cinching up the horse tight, but not to tight as she would tighten it up when she got to the arena. Ellie ran through the small tack box infront of Mercury's stall found some preformace boots and put them on his front legs and grabbed sliding boots on his back hocks. Once she had the boots on she grabbed the bridle from the tack box and slipped it on. Ellie buckled the chin strap and took the reins in her hand put the halter and lead rope into the tack box out of the way before walking toward the Reining arena. Ellie kept her brown hat on top of her red braided hair as she wasn't to worried about what the coach was going to say. She had put her sunglasses on as it was already after lunch and the sun was high and hot. Ellie had to roll up the sleeves of her torquise and brown shirt before opened the gate of the arena. Ellie noticed a man a man in the arena and two horse's tied to the railing of the arena. Ellie shinned the man a smile and shut the gate behind her. She moved away from the gate before tightening the cinch on the gelding before stepping up into the saddle. Mercury tossed his head alittle and chomped at the bit ready to go, but Ellie turned the gelding toward the man in the middle of arena. Ellie stopped the gelding a couple feet away form the man and smiled. Hello Sir, I was wondering if I could warm up Mercury before we start? She said with a grin hoping that it would be okay or today would be intesting seeing what he would to without being worked out. Ellie crossed her hands on the saddle horn and waited for an answer. Mercury RunOutfit

Sara headed out of the cafeteria and towards the barn, her backpack on her back as usual, Cinder following at her heels. She was looking forward to starting the second phase of Reining, although it promised to be harder. Through the bustle of the barn, she groomed, then tacked up Rolo, before she grabbed the split reins her hat and headed towards the new Reining arena. She was looking forward to trying it out, although she hadn't had a chance yet. As she approached, she realized that Cinder was, as of yet, untested in lessons where he had to stay in the corner for an hour. She paused, then shrugged and walked on, looking at the dog, "You know how to act now, don't you?" The dog's tongue lolled out, and Sara was glad to remember that she had packed a water bottle and a bowl for the dog.
As they approached the arena, she could see Mr. Matthews there already, and, to her surprise, a familiar redhead that she would know anywhere. She walked up to the fence and grinned at her roommate, "Hey Ellie, look at who my classmate is!" She looked in to see Mr. Matthews standing there and grinned at him, "Hey Mr. Matthews!" She paused, then grimaced as she looked down at the orange dog. She'd tell the teacher about what had happened if he asked, but if not, well, that would be fine as well. She hoped the fencing of the arena would provide at least a little bit of shade for the canine, though, because she did care about him... Despite her best tries not to.

Toby left his older gelding tied, and undid the halter from the mare's face as he slid the snaffle bit into her mouth. Just in case a student needed to ride Doc, he would warm up Jewel for himself. He knew the sun was on his side though, as senseless as the mare seemed at times, over working herself in the heat was something she didn't do. And, some days she was spookier than others. But Caylee had come across an interesting article about the 'swirls' on a horse's forehead and certain characteristics about it related to a horse's personality. Well, as fate would have it, Jewel did have two swirls. The article said that in that case, it was like one horse having two different brains. Like a Hide and Jekeyll case. The cowboy didn't believe it to that extent. But, it just seemed Jewel didn't have as much learning capability as other horses. But he was more of a believer in nature vs. nurture, rather than split personalities.
The cowboy swung up into the saddle. He felt the mare flinch at his boots, as, he didn't need spurs with her, she would come unglued. But she didn't walk off. Toby heard someone approaching and saw a red head with a sorrel. She was wearing some flashy tack. While he didn't care much of it, he could just see Caylee jumping for joy at the idea of work and style. He smiled small as the redhead addressed him, "That sounds like a great idea," he nodded his head, "I need to warm up Jewel a bit too."
Hearing a voice, and feeling his mare stiffen beneath him, the cowboy turned and saw a familiar girl with a familiar horse, "Afternoon Sara," he called back. His eyes trailed to the dog, and he lightly furrowed his brows, "Last time your horse changed colors, and now your dog has," he commented with a grin. The cowboy figured Sara knew the routine enough to not be told. He turned his mare and started her on a twenty foot circle at a trot. She tossed her head, and swished her tail, but didn't seem to protest much today.

Ellie wasn't someone who liked fashion much, but when it came to spurs and ofcourse boots it was like her adictions. If you even look into her clothest you would see hundered pairs of boots. Ellie had boots from when she wore them out so badly that they should just be thrown away to boots that would look nice enough for a party. The hat on her head shaded her eyes from the heat, but she loved her sunglasses so she thought about wearing them out here. Ellie rubbed the red duns neck with her palm as she looked at Mr. Mathews. She had never meet him, but heck she would now since she was in his class. Mercury turned his head behind him hearing the gate open and a dog beside Sara. Ellie followed Mercury's head, but she didn't even have to see the girl knowing it was Sara by her voice. Ellie turned around in the saddle and looked at Sara. Well ain't we lucky? She giggled and smiled. She heard Mr. Mathews say it was okay to warm up the gelding so she used her legs not even touching the gelding with her spurs and began working the gelding into an extand trot. Mercury tossed his head up, but Ellie corrected the gelding by checking him in. The trotted around the arena before working on a couple figure eights and large circles. Ellie watched out for Mr. Mathews and Sara as she worked the gelding into his exercies. Mercury RunOutfit

Sara grinned at her roommate, "You guys are, you'll probably pound me into the ground." She followed Ellie into the arena and walked Rolo and Cinder over to the corner with the most shade. She hurried to fill up the portable bowl with water, then mounted Rolo and walked him over towards Mr. Matthews, laughing as she blushed, "Yes, the agency that I get the pleasure of working with retires dogs at eight." She glanced over at the red and white dog, "So, meet Cinder, two year old pup who'll be mine for the next six years."
She tapped her heels to Rolo's side and moved him at a jog along a few circles and serpentines, making sure she wasn't getting into the way of anyone as she went. Rolo seemed a little stiff in the beginning, but by the end, he was moving nicely, and Sara was sure he was as excited as she was about working... Well, probably not. The summer had been rather relaxed, a bit of practice, a bit of riding, but really laid back, while now, with class starting, there would be a bit more rigid schedule. It was alright, though. They would be able to work with it.
When she had warmed Rolo up, she slowed him to a walk and kept walking him around, although she watched Mr. Matthews, waiting for him to begin the class.

The man didn't pay much attention to the conversation between the two students. He heard the girl, who he knew was Ellie by process of elimination. He watched as she went to go warm up her horse.
His gaze changed to Sara, hearing that the puppy was new. He lightly frowned, "Eight?" he questioned, that didn't seem old, but, he didn't know the life span of a large breed like a Malamute. It probably wasn't very long due to their size. He saw that the girl was going to warm up her horse as well. So he turned the bay around. He could have rode Doc, but he was also used in the beginner's class. As it turned out, two students had needed horses, so it was a good thing he had three.
Toby started Jewel on a small circle at a trot. He looked back to see how his two students were doing, and they both seemed to be doing good. This class was going to be enjoyable, and he hoped that they could see their progress come rather quickly with their horses.

Ellie giggled toward the comment about how they was going to pound her into the ground.I won't be that mean to you Sara.
[/b]She giggled as she trotted by Sara and her horse. Ellie and Merucy trotted past Sara before they could talk about the new dog that she had gotten. Ellie did noticed that Nunya wasn't around anymore, but she had another dog instead. Ellie smiled and began to focous on Mercury as he was starting to act up alittle. Ellie urged the gelding into a left lead lope as she used her right leg to push him across and he picked it up. The loped around the arena acouple times keeping out of everyone's way as they did a couple left lead circles before doing a flying lead change in the middle of the arena for a right lead and did some right lead circles before coming to a stop in the middle of the arena. She wasn't sure if she could pratice some stops or even turns so she brought him to the middle to stay out of the way of Sara and Mr. Mattews as they warmed up their horses. [/left]

Sara raised an eyebrow, but shrugged. She didn't doubt that Ellie wouldn't do it intentionally, but the girl had been living on a ranch for most, if not all, of her life, and she was probably much better than Sara. She didn't have a problem with that, though. Competition helped people get better, didn't it?
Sara grimaced and nodded at Mr. Matthews' words, "I know, I wish it had been longer too, but that's the way the agency works." She shrugged, "Nunya's living in California now, with my parents, so she didn't get abandoned or anything." She would have loved to bring the dog with her, but she knew that it wouldn't be right for the dog, or for her, either.
After Rolo had loosened up to her satisfaction, she pulled him into the center of the arena, where Ellie was already. She smiled at her roommate, "So, that's Mercury, is it?" She had heard about the gelding already that Ellie was riding in Western lessons, but she hadn't gotten to meet the gelding, so now was the first time she got to look at the red dun, "He's really nice-looking."
