Riker had been in the barn all day long, then back at the dorm, then back at the core classes. Pretty much school, and then more school; all day long. Having DJ was a nice suggestion for classwork, but Amara had seemed to be getting a bit lonely.
Feeling the need to go and see his mare, Riker left the tack room, before grabbing his saddle, pad, girth, martinglae, and bridle. Then stepping into the aisle, Riker took a left towards the brindle's stall. Seeing her head over the door, chewing on some food, Riker smiled at the mare, who nudged his shoulder getting food over it.
Hey girl, how are you? Riker asked her, unlatching the stall door, and hooking a red halter onto her dark bay coat. Leading her out of the stall, Riker had his hand firmly against the halter and didn't let go until both ties were latched to the side.
Placing the saddle pad onto her back, and then lifting the English saddle ontop of her back, Riker slipped the martingale through the girth before latching it onto either side of Amara's stomach. Taking the bridle with ease, Riker was ready in a good time, and he led the mare out of the barn and towards the Dressage Arena; now free of kids.
Unlacthing the gate, and leading the mare inside, Riker mounted up and started at a walk around the arena with the mare. He could tell it was going to be a nice ride; just by how the mare started off. Nice and smooth.

Gabe was more than a little annoyed with his lack of having a horse to ride at the moment... North was recovering his gelding at the vet clinic and the man didn't really want to ride a school horse at the moment. He mentally cursed himself, thinking that he should really look into buying another horse sometime, so that when North was out of commission, at least he'd have another animal to work with. Though, really, he wasn't much feelin up to riding at the moment, anyhow.
So he was simply taking his time and walking around the rings, watching people. Gabe enjoyed 'people watching' and had already stopped by several arena's and rings just to watch some of the other staff or students school their horses. He had to admit, even though he wished dearly his own boy was back and healed, he was having fun doing what he was doing... that and honestly, Gabe really just liked watching the horses. It didn't matter what horse, he just wanted to watch...
The counselor paused by the dressage arena, leaning against the rails as a horse and rider caught his eye. It looked like they were just beginning to warm up, and Gabe grinned slightly, planning on standing by as an audience for a few before going on about his way.

Riker squeezed his legs against Amara's side, moving her into a nice posting trot. She seemed relaxed and calm; riding around the ring perfectly, and on the right lead. She didn't mind any other riders or horses; as she normally wouldn't have.
Going along their buisness, Riker then let her trot around; while he was in two point all the while. Then as she neared the second lap around, he moved his outside leg back; a couple inches back from where his legs usually stay. Pressing his heel into the side of the brindle's under belly, Amara rose into a nice and gradual canter. Not to fast, but not to slow either; it was a nice and collected round, like Riker wanted.
Amara flicked her ears back and forth, as they went around; not having her full attention on Riker all the time. Turning his head, he quickly saw what was making her confused. Standing at the fence was a man; older than him, and just watching as Riker saw. Tapping his whip on the side of his mare's shoulder, Riker then got her attention based off him again; before continuing.
After another lap or so, he slowed Amara back down into a walk; thinking of what he was going to be doing with her at the moment. Deciding that he could run her in some circles; to loosen her body, Riker then brought her to a trot again. Turning her after a lap, Riker made a bigger circle; then brought the mare inwards as they went, getting tighter and tighter inside. Amara did well and went as far as Riker liked her to go; and until he felt her muscles couldn't take it anymore. Working her well, he then decided to do a run arounds; with the markers mentally inside his head. He walked the mare around the arena; placing where he wantted and where he didn't.

Gabriel eyed the mare appreciatively as the rider, a student he could tell, kept her going nicely and in frame for a while, though the man frowned as he noticed the boy having a little trouble keeping the horses attentions. Gabe studied the duo for a moment before realizing that the horse was also focused on him, and he grinned and stepped back a few steps, away fro mthe rail so that the horse wouldn't directly see him anymore.
As the horse and rider passed the rail near where he stood, Gabe offered an apologetic look for disturbing their concentration and stepped back one more step, moving so that he could see the entire arena without having to crane his neck this way or that.
As the boy pulled the mare down into a walk, Gabe raised a hand in greeting when they came close to where he stood again, "Sorry for causing her to lose her focus," He said to the boy, "You don't mind if I watch for a few? My own horse is recovering being gelded."
In those few words, he both asked permission to stay for a while and simply observe the workout and he also explained why he was doing so, so the the kid didn't think of him as some sort of stalker or creep.

As Riker and Amara were traveling around the ring; for there daily workout, Riker noticed the man step back a few feet; as Amara lost focus. Well at least he tried to fix it; and it seemed to work, as the mare now was staying in contact with her rider; although she would of had to obeyed either way.
Seeing the guy give a look; an ''I'm sorry" look, Riker smiled at him, and nodded his head; understanding what he meant by that. It wasn't a problem, and his horse wouldn't do anything if she lost focus anyways; better to be safe than sorry he supposed.
Stroking the mare's neck as they slowed, Riker saw the man raise his hand, and Amara perk her ears towards the sudden movement. Unmounting her; Riker walked over to the fence, taking a drink of water; and then placing some in his hand, as Amara took it off in a sip.
No, not at all, have at it. Riker said to him. He didn't figure the need to mention his name; as the man didn't need to know. Riker wasn't going to do much either, just a little cooling workout, and then a nice graze. Nothing to need a bath or anything; but he didn't want to work her to hard, as she'd been in class all day.

Gabe nodded back when the boy gave him the nod of understanding. At least the teen got what he was doing in moving. Some people wouldn't have understood the motions. Gabriel knew that when people were focusing on working, sometimes they didn't want an audience, and he was more than glad that the boy didn't seem to mind or care. The counselor's eyes tracked the horse, though he did fall off track for a moment and shaded his eyes against the sun as a low-flying bird cast a shadow in the arena. Gabe's eyes followed the bird until it disappeared, then he turned back to the horse and rider pair, noticing that the mare's attention was focused on him again and that the boy had dismounted and was leading her towards the rail.
Gabriel walked forwards slightly, hearing the comment the teen made and grinning boyishly. He was glad the kid really didn't mind, as he was completely bored and not really wanting to ride a school horse just to get his 'horsey fix'. "Thanks, she's a pretty horse, by the way." Gabe didn't ask for a name when the teen didn't give one, instead, he tilted his head slightly, studying the young man. He was mentally trying to remember his name based on the files he'd finally finished reading. He'd read every student's file who attended the academy, and finally, his eyes lit up. Gabe was quite good at placing names with faces. "Your name is Riker, am I right?" He immediately grinned sheepishly and ran a hand through his hair. "Not that I'm stalking you or anything. I'm good with faces and names… Err… I'm a counselor here. We have files on all the students… so… yeah…" He explained, so as to not sound like some sort of creep.

As Riker had unmounted, he noticed the man, probaly a teacher here, walking slightly closer to the railing now. He was too old it seemed to be a student, but not so old that he couldn't be much more than his early twenties or so.
Hearing the comment about Amara from the man's mouth himself, Riker nodded. Thanks, she's a handful. Riker said, letting the water in his hands slip off as Amara's tongue reached his palm, cleaning his hands free. Wiping away on his jeans, he then listened again for what the man had to say.
Seeming to know everything about his life, Riker took it a little creepy until he explained how he'd known everything.
Chuckling as he ran through some fast words and a whole lexture about how he knew everything, Riker said, No sweat, but yeah thats me. And you? he asked gesturing towards the man in front of him.
Amara snorted and lowered her head steadily; breathing heavy like a hurricane. Patting her neck, Riker noticed how hot she seemed and thought that they should be done for the day. Checking her legs first; he knew that she was fine when no heat was found, and he thought he'd stay to chat, but be done with it afterwards. .

Gabriel reached a hand out, letting the mare gethis scent before he slowly scratched her ace once the boy had stopped her and checked her over. The man could tell she was hot and tired from the workout from the way she breathed, but he said nothing about it, it wasn't his place to do so and he'd ridden North past the point the mare was several times.
"Name's Gabriel." He said to Riker with a slow grin, happy when the boy didn't seem to freaked out. "Most people call me Gabe, though." He scratched the mare for a few more minutes before lowering his hand. "You two look nice together." He complimented, meaning nothing by the comment except for it to be just that, an observation.
Gabriel sighed a moment later, thinking of his own horse, who was on stall rest at the moment. He knew that later he'd have to go take the horse for a walk, and seiously hoped that the gelding hadn't done anything too destructive, being locked up in the stall with only a small, single paddock to be in, alone... Gabe knew it was driving North up the wall.

Watching his brindle briskly smell the man's hand, before he scratched her a bit. Riker smiled, happy that she didn't decide to pull something on him. As he decided on heading in, Riker started to collect himself, while still listening and focusing on the man, Gabriel; present in front of him.
Now that it was switched to Gabe, Riker nodded. It was nice to meet you Gabe, and thanks; wish I could see you and your horse, would say the same. he said to him, nodding at his words.
Leading Amara towards the gate, Riker unlatched it and led her out, turnign back and latchign it up agian. He loosened her girth and then let her rest for awhile while seeing if he had anything else to mention or state to him.
The brindle mare breathed heavy breaths and Riker was worried about her, as she didn't usually do that; especially whenever it was a little colder outside. She gasped it seemed and shook her head, coughing a bit. He stroked her neck, letting concern show in his eyes, but not in his emotions. He didn't know what to do, but assumed maybe something was just in her throat?

"Perhaps you will one day." Gabriel replied, giving the boy an easy grin. He'd always smiled pretty easily. "I ride as much as I can, which isn't near as much as I would like." He said, laughing a little when he thought back to his words; he did say them a bit oddly. His eyes went back to the horse, the mare, studying her again. Gabe liked the look in her eyes, she seemed nice, calm, and friendly. He liked that in a horse.
The man got the feeling that the boy wanted to leave, though, and gave him a small nod, stepping back slightly. He glanced one more at the sky, wondering to himself if he had time to take North for a walk, come back, and then take his dog for a short walk before it got dark. Gabe thought he would have time, but he'd have to rush, he knew.
"I guess it was nice meeting you, Riker." He said, running a hand through his messy spiked hair, "I'll leave you in peace, though. Perhaps we'll meet up again sometime. Again, you've a very nice horse." The man stepped back at that, giving the teen another grin, and started to head off.

As Gabe chose his choice of word to say back to Rikker, he nodded liking the thought of seeing the older man ride. It could be nice to watch; pick up a fe wthings.
Getting the motions that Riker should probaly go, Gabe stepped back and said his fare goodbye. Nodding, Riker saw how he immediatley started to head off. Setting in another set of words before he left, Riker said, See you around, maybe we could ride sometime.
With that the boy turned with his brindle mare nad started up the small slope to the Willow Barn; where she wa sbeing kept for nnow. She seemed fine after she had coughed up a few times, and was now walking perfectly and breathing fine; like nothing had happened before, and nothing was diffrent either.
Running a hand through his spiked hair; fixing it quickly, he started to untack Amara as soon as the mare was in her rightful spot. Then he placed her in the correct stall; stroking DJ as he walked by and left the barn. He hoped that Gabe would take him up on his deal though, as it wouldn't hurt to have him ride.
