There was a brand new spiralbound notebook on each of the tables, a book that each of her students were expected to keep an up to date journal and it would be checked at each class - she would explain what she wanted done with them when the class started. On her desk was a list of portfolios, each contained the information of the students' chosen horse; vet reports, farrier, worming details. The latter two were currently empty as they were up to the students to fill in. Picking up a dry erase marker, she began to write on the board: [1] I am the boss. If I ask you to move away from the horse you are working with you are to do so without argument. [2] Only one (1) person speaking at a time. If you have a comment to add or a disagreement, you wait until said person has finished speaking before you add your four cents worth. [3] Please come to class dressed appropriately. I will not tolerate any student wearing sneakers. Horses are unpredictable animals and at least boots offer a little protection if stood on. [4] Everyone and everything in this class deserves your respect. If you have had issues with something before class, leave it at the door when you enter, otherwise you will be told to leave. [5] As the instructor, I reserve all right to step in if I feel what you are doing is hindering the horse’s well being rather than helping. [6] Any changes in the horses’ feeding regime will need to go past me first – as I’m the one who has to work out feeds when you’re not here. [7] If your equine partner is having a bad day and you are getting upset, please walk away. Go clean tack or read a book, but DO NOT take your stress out on the horse. [8] Even though you are working on your own individual animal, please remember that you are initially a team, and do support each other. [9] I expect everyone to keep their horse’s journal up-to-date. There will be consequences if they aren’t.[/ul] Stepping back from the board and nodded at the words, pleased with the rules she had come up with. Placing the pen on her desk she turned to the door, knowing that the first student would be due to arrive.

Well, this class was going to be different, Tony was absolutely certain. For one, it was being held (well, the theory bits, anyway) in the loft of the Equine Clinic, for another it wasn't part of the core school courses, and finally and probably most importantly, he wouldn't be working with Twitch, but with one of the rescue horses. That was, after all, the whole point of the class: working with and helping horses that hadn't had very good lots in life. It was that which had drawn Tony to singing up for the Rescue Horse class, after only minimal consideration of what it would actually do to his schedule. The desire to help others - be they human, or horse, or sparrow - was something very central to Tony's personality, something he thought was incredibly important, and something that he really wanted to spend his life doing. The description of the class had tugged at Tony, and there had really been no doubt that he was going to apply to join; he was just glad that he had managed to get a place, as it had seemed to be a hotly contested option, even if it wasn't one of the official courses.
Finding the stairs that led up to the loft, he bounced up them eagerly, in his enthusiasm catching his toe on the top of one and almost managing to send himself sprawling. Some wild arm waving was required in the prevention of falling on his face, and once he had regained his balance he advanced upwards more carefully. Not quite sure if they would actually be meeting their chosen horses today, he'd agonised over what to wear, eventually settling on riding clothes: dark breeches, a neat yellow shirt, riding boots and chaps. His trusty backpack was slung over his shoulder, filled with anything he could possibly think of that he might need, from a notebook and five different colours of pens to horse treats, some string and some duct-tape. Tony's backpack could always be counted on to produce a bizarre mixture of things, no matter the situation.
Pushing open the door and entering the converted loft he was slightly surprised to see that he was the first one there... but then, upon reflection he was really rather early. Seeing Doctor Carr standing watching the door, he left the door shut behind him and said, "Oh, hello Doctor Carr!" He'd never met the vet before and, if he was going to be quite honest about it, was rather intimidated by her: after all, she was a vet, and vets came pretty close behind major deities in his estimation of the world. Part of his intimidation was also that he really wasn't entirely sure what he was doing in the whole area of horse rehabilitation; but then again, he was here to learn, right? He wasn't supposed to know the answers to anything right now, and he was coming with good intentions, so that had to count for something. He hoped, anyway, because he was very eager to help the mare who had caught his eye (not that he hadn't wanted to help all of them but that just wasn't possible), the beautiful, mysterious, Ariegeois Pony, whom he had decided to call Josephine.
"I'm Anthony Blake, but Tony's fine, if you prefer," he added, wanting to fill the silence as he walked forward and dropped himself into a desk right at the very front of the room, eying the notebook already on the desk with interest. "It's very nice to meet you, Doctor." His tone and smile were very genuine, his nerves almost entirely hidden, and his enthusiasm far more evident - said enthusiasm was a far larger part of what he was feeling, anyway. Ducking his head a moment to pull out a stuffed full pencil case, he set that on the desk next to the notebook, considered a moment, and then retrieved one of the empty notebooks (with a rich green cover) he'd stuck in his bag previously, assuming that the notebook already there was for some Very Special Purpose that he didn't want to mess up. That done, he sat attentively, wondering when the rest of the class was going to arrive.

The blonde lightly bit her lip as butterflies seemed to travel from one leaf to the other inside of her stomach. She was excited, to get the chance to turn a horse's life around. A certain horse in particular, a thoroughbred mare. Who, Renee had instantly came up with the name 'Glory' as, she felt the mare deserved it, and the band name 'Gloriana' popped into her head, that she felt would be a good show name for the horse. Because, the grey or, whatever color she was, was going to make it that far. Rin was not going to give up on a horse. She had almost once, but then a miracle happened, and she couldn't bear to think about if she had actually quit.
Thinking about Jo's past made her heart ache to help this mare turn into a wonderful sight, just like her own by thoroughbred was today. The only differences were, that Jill was not there to guide her. But, a veterinarian instead. Renee had never met the woman herself, but knew she was Ms. Carr's daughter. And knowing that information alone, meant she was probably nice, but very stern, especially to those that did not cooperate with her.
The blonde reached the clinic and looked up at the wooden ladder, or stairs, being told the classroom was up there. She felt her heart speed up, wanting to start this class, but nervous as well. You can do this, just be confident. She mentally gave herself the tenth pep-talk of the day so far. You have no reason not to be. She silently nodded her head and walked up the steps, hearing them creak lightly, as all wood did. She let out a breath, and entered the very top, seeing a closed door. Her plain hand gripped the handle, and she pushed it open. Her blue eyes quickly landed on, who she presumed was Dr. Carr, and, a male student already in the room. She smiled small at the woman, before also taking a seat in the front row, too shy to look at the boy. Her eyes trailed to the notebook on the desk, and then to the words written on the board. Yes, stern was the right use of words. But, these were unpredictable horses after all. Not that any horse was per say, but these had a lot more issues than the others. Her eyes trailed down to her v-neck t-shirt, and she smoothed it out past her jeans and glanced down at her rather dusty boots. At least she was already wearing the dress requirements. But rarely was she in anything else. Her legs were as white as snow, and her toes were long and kind of crooked. Ugly in her opinion.

Olivia paced up and down in her room, unsure of what to wear. She had signed up for the Rescue class on a whim, affected by the sight of the poor, mistreated animals that they would be helping. Now the class was upon them, and she didn't know what she had signed up for. In the end, she chose to go with what she usually wore for working with Blue, a simple tshirt and pants, as well as a pair of boots. Hopefully that would be alright, and if not... Well, then she would wear something different for the next meeting of the class, wouldn't she?
That decision done, she grabbed her backpack, which contained a blank notebook and a handful of pens and pencils. She glanced around for anything she might have forgotten, then shrugged. She probably had everything she would need. She glanced at her shepherd, "Be good, Tory," then made her way out of her room.
She made her way towards the equine clinic, a part of the campus she had, thankfully, not been to yet. She glanced around, trying to spot where to go, but she didn't really see anyone. The loft was in the barn, though, she had heard, so she headed towards the biggest barn she could see. She saw a ladder leading up the loft and climbed up, hoping to see the class. Three people were already there, so she guessed that she was in the right place. She smiled and simply said, "Hello." before she headed to an empty table. There was a notebook on it, but she didn't know what it was for yet. Instead, she looked up at the board and started reading through the rules. A wave of relief washed over her as she realized that she was wearing the right things.

Two things struck Fox at once. He realised where Pippin learned her swear words and that he was going to be late if he didn't get his d**n bird in her cage. Muttering under his breath, he watched as his cockatoo flipped her crest and squawked her triumph, perched on the curtain pole just out of Fox's reach. "Please Pippin, I have class. And Ryan isn't here, so you can't terrorise him either." Fox grumbled, holding out the cage. Pippin made a sound that sounded like a lock being closed. After ten tense minutes of staring, she hopped down from her perch and climbed into her cage, her expression clearly stating "On my terms only." Closing the door, Fox sighed and put the cage on its holder. "Behave please. If you're nice, maybe Ryan will let you out when he gets back." The lithe male lifted his backpack and slung it over one shoulder before leaving the room and eventually the house.
As Fox made his way to the equine clinic, he was able to focus on his excitement for the new class. Having rehabilitated his own two horses, Sherbet his American Cream Draft and Bionic his thoroughbred. Both he'd worked on alone, and both had come out of their past torments well. The horse he'd picked for the rescue class was a beautiful chestnut quarter horse. Throw Down, or William as his barn name would be, had interested Fox at his write up. Though his past hadn't been as bad as some of the others, the potential in the gelding could be seen just by his image. He fascinated Fox, and he wanted to see where he could take the gelding. Sherbet was mostly retired, she certainly was not shown, and Bionic was still a work in progress. Fox, though a lot of time was taken up by his horses and another favourite hobby in ghost hunting, had plenty of time to work with another horse. He would make time for William anyway.
Fox looked up the wooden stairs/ladder that he had to climb to reach the classroom and grinned. Climbing the stairs quickly, he dusted himself off briefly before looking up to see three other students and Dr Carr there. He recognised both Olivia and Tony right away. "Hello Dr Carr." He smiled at her pleasantly, then turning to take a seat. He smiled warmly at the blonde who's name he did not know, and then took a place in the table next to Tony, and then looked over to Olivia. "And Pippin hasn't learned any new swears." He informed her with a grin. Turning back to Tony, he smiled. "Hey Tony, seen any ghost recently?" He asked with genuine interest. He made sure to listen for Tony as he gazed at the rules, nodding slightly at each one. They were all very reasonable, and understood why each one was in place.

Rianna rushed to her rescue horse class as she had dropped off her school books at her dorm room real quick. She hoped she wasn't late as she walked in the loft were it would be held. Her teacher was Demeter Carr who walso a vet who Rianna was learning under. Rianna to wanted to be a vet and she was on her way. "Hi Dr. Carr. I'm Rianna Daisher." She said to her teacher as she introduced herself. She stood alone away from the other students. She would talk to them if they talked to her. The small dark skinned girl looked around ast the loft. She wondered what horse she would be getting. She had handled lots oh horses and trained them so she knew what to do. The dark skinned girl hoped she got some what of a challenge but if not Rianna would be fine. Rianna had been here a week to beforer school started when probably some of her class mates had been for two weeks or longer. She had yet to meet all of them. Though she picked out Renee's face. She had meet Renee along with Erice on the reserve. She didn't really consider them friends but more of aquantices almost. Just because she hadn't known them for that long and Renee had been fishing. She had meet them on the first day she had arrived along with Lindsey as well.

Just a small note, the students already know who they are working with, they picked the horse and named them when they signed up for the class.

Lindsey had headed back to her dorm room, thinking to change clothes before heading to the Horse Rescue class. She couldn't wait to see the Morgan at work, even though he wouldn't be ready to go just like that. Deciding on a pair of black riding breeches, and a loose fitting plaid tee. Lindsey grabbed her riding boots and chaps, putting them on, before she placed her hair up in a messy bun. She took her hoop earrings out, and placed in some simple studs. Slinging her bag over her shoulder, Lindsey made sure she had her notebooks and some pencils, as well as pens. Placing her phone, after silencing it, into her bag, she placed Red into his kennel to be on the safe side and then headed out of her dorm, grabbing the keys off the hook they had hanging by the door. Walking to the Equine Clinic, Lindsey found the loft, knowing that it would be held up there. Walking up the dark colored wood, creaking as she walked up them, Lindsey saw that five students were already there. Walking in Lindsey saw Demeter Carr and smiled saying, "Hello, Doctor Carr. Good to see you again." Lindsey said to her. Titan was doing much better now, thanks to Ms.Carr, but Lindsey hadn't yet gotten the right away to ride him. Turning to see the desks, Lindsey chose one next to Rianna. Smiling a her as Lindsey sat down, she noticed that she was the only one that Lindsey had known. She saw a few people from her other classes, but none that she had really known. Seeing that there was already a spiral notebook on each of their tables, Lindsey wanted to know what it was to be used for, but then turned her head up to the white board. Reading over all the rules, she revealed what the notebooks were to be used for. The rules were all very nicely written, and very considerate and correct. Lindsey was glad that she had chosen to wear the right apparel. She couldn't wait to see Astro, the Morgan she had chosen. He would be even more magnificent in person, than on the sign up sheet. Lindsey turned to Rianna, "How have you been, Rianna? Which horse did you choose?" she asked, wanting to fill silence while she waited for the other students to arrive. Lindsey wasn't usually the one for the "silence type".

Demeter smiled as the first student entered and greeted her. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Tony." She responded to the young teen. Her smile didn't slip as the students continued to arrive and greet her. When Lindsey walked in though, her smile did vanish. "I am Doctor Carr, Lindsey." She said, her tone of voice let the girl know she wasn't happy. "If you ever address me so disrespectfully in the future, you will find yourself outside Mr Jameson's office." She normally wasn't so strict, but she hadn't spent four years in university to get her veterinary doctorate to be spoken to as though she were this girl's equal. As there were now seven students in the room, she knew that they were only waiting on one. It was when Lindsey's voice filled the room she decided that they would probably like the information that the woman wanted them to put in at the front of the books, so she picked up the marker and walked back to the whiteboard. On the other side of the board to the rules, she began to write: What to put in your books: On the first page, I would like the following... Name: Age: Height: Sex: Breed: Colour: Markings: Brand: (if they have one)
The next couple of pages will be dedicated to farrier and worming notes, followed by a feed schedule.
After that, I would like you to just journal what you are doing with your horse/pony each day (or each week if you aren't the type of person to write in a journal daily). These books will be checked by yours truly at the start of each week.
How you do the journalling is up to you, I just want it legible enough for me to be able to read it. You can add pictures, photos, clippings, I really don't care as this is your work.
She turned around to face the students. "It's not quite time to start just yet, and we're still waiting on one students, so we'll give her a couple of minutes and then we can get started."Posting order: Tony Rin Olivia Fox Rianna Lindsey Samantha Erica If the person before you hasn't posted in 36 hours after the person before them, you can skip that person

Butterfly's were lively within Sam and outside. It was pretty nerve racking since she was running late, and heard that Dr. Carr was pretty strict. Countering the nervousness was excitement to get to work with Aquipa now. This 'class' was going to be interesting. It wasn't really a class because it was outside of the scheduled curriculum. One of the few reasons she signed up was just so she could work with horses who haven't been very fortunate, which she had always wanted to do. Another reason was the fact that she could meet some more people in the Rescue Class. Of course clothes played a major role in her lateness.
Sam tore through her clothes trying to find some simple tee shirts. It took about thirty minutes to decide on a dark green v-neck tee. Jeans were easy to find since you can't really go wrong with jeans. She settled on some dark blue, washed out, boot cut jeans. Her hair was thrown up into a tight ponytail with some strands hanging down around her face. A light layer of gold eyeshadow highlighted her eyes along with a thin layer of eyeliner and mascara. Then on came her brown cowgirl boots, partly hidden under her jeans. Her blue book bag was over her shoulder. Finally nearing 5 minutes late she was ready for class.
Once she made it out of White Ribbon, she sprinted towards the equine clinic. Only slowing down in front of the building to make sure she didn't make to much noise as she entered. Her eyes scanned for the ladder to the loft. She walked over to the ladder, and pulled herself up to the loft, where she saw Tony, Fox, Dr. Carr, and several others she didn't know very well.
She made her way over to the group, where Dr. Carr didn't look to happy. Now, she stomach fluttered even more. "Sorry I am late, Doctor Carr." Sam had looked at Dr. Carr, then shot a smile that Tony, and Fox. Her feet started to scuff the floor as she walked towards the seat next to Tony, on the opposite side of Fox. She looked down then fixed her 'walk'. Tony had been her ghost hunting partner, and Sam hadn't talked to him in a while. She sat down next to him, and pulled out a pencil, a lime green felt-tip gel pen, and a black felt-tip gel pen. There was already a notebook on her desk so she left her notebook in her bag. "Hey Tony, how's it going?" Sam asked quietly to the boy.

Demeter gave Samantha a smile as the girl entered the loft, and once the girl had found her seat the woman looked around at her collection of students. She picked up the folders off her desk and placed them on the table belonging to the student who has selected the patient who's name was on the folder. "These are just basic notes that came with your new friend." She explained. "As well as a few notes from me about what condition they were in when they arrived. Apart from the feed I have given them, and what vet care they needed, there has been no other work down with them - so to speak - in the last few days." She laughed. "As much as I wanted the farrier in there and then, I knew that you all needed to see them as they are." She was tempted to thank Harry for his help on the day the horses arrived, but left the words unsaid as she didn't know if he would want her to make his help public knowledge.
She drew in a deep breath. "Okay, before we go and meet the horses. Why are we here? And in what ways can we help these horses?" She was using the royal we, but it made it sound more friendly and less demanding than asking them directly what they were going to do. She was interested to see how they would respond to her questions.

Taking his time carefully reading through the rules on the board, and wondering if he should be writing them down (not that he thought he was going to forget any of them, but maybe just in case...) Tony was glad when other students started turning up and he was no longer alone with the intimidating Doctor Carr. Admittedly, she wasn't quite as intimidating as she'd been three minutes ago, because she'd been nice and smiley when he'd said hello to her, but still. Vet. Teacher. Person to look up to. Someone he wanted to think well of him. All intimidating things.
Giving Olivia a little wave as she entered, rather pleased that at least one person he knew (and liked, too) was in the class, he responded eagerly as Fox sat down next to him, careful not to talk too loudly and disturb everyone. "Hi Fox! No luck on the ghost front, unfortunately, though I have been looking. There were some interesting noises outside my room one night, so I went out to see, but it turned out to be someone's cat who was annoyed at being locked out." That had been rather disappointing, really, for Tony had been all fired up and ready to find a ghost (equipped with flashlight and peanut butter, just in case) and had instead found a little calico cat. To be fair, said cat had been very cute, so it hadn't been completely disappointing. "Have you had any luck?"
Listening intently as Fox replied, Tony kept an eye on the door as two more students entered, both girls that he didn't know, and then found himself restraining a wince as one of them was rather disrespectful towards Doctor Carr, who proceeded to be intimidating. Understandably so, and not in a way that was at all nasty, but given Tony's general awe of her anyway, it only decided him in his desire to step carefully around her. It would also have decided him in his desire to be earnestly enthusiastic and to try to be his very best in the class, except that that was Tony's general state of being. The fact that his desire to be pleasing and to try insanely hard only increased when he was helping others, when he was in class, or when he was greatly in awe of someone meant that the Rescue Class was something of a perfect storm for him, especially as he really did want Doctor Carr to not think he was an idiot, or anything.
As Doctor Carr began to write more things on the board, the reason for the notebooks already on the desks became clear, and Tony took the opportunity to stick the one he'd gotten out previously back in his bag. Resolving that he would do a daily update to his notebook, and that each update would be detailed, thoughtful, truthful and well-presented, he also decided that he'd have to take lots of pictures of Josephine in order to show how she was getting on.
Giving Sam a cheerful,"Hello!" as she sat down next to him, he added, "I'm really good, thanks - how are you doing?" and might have said more if Doctor Carr hadn't begun the lesson properly. Instantly, Tony switched all his attention to the vet, a slight frown of concentration creasing his face as he accepted the proffered folder of information, and flipped through it thoughtfully. Well, that was definitely a helpful start!
"We're, uh, here to help these horses," Tony said, slightly tentatively, into the silence that dropped after her questions, hoping that he wasn't making a fool of himself by speaking up in a group of people vastly more experienced than he was. His resolve to be earnestly diligent, however, and his desire to have Doctor Carr think well of him, spurred him on. Not always the best at translating his feelings into words, he could only hope that he was actually managing to make sense.
"Because they haven't been treated well by people, and they deserve so much more than what they have been given, so we're here to give that to them, and to help them have happier lives. And I guess we can do that by being patient, and understanding, and..." What was it that Cara had said to him before? "And by listening to what they're trying to tell us." He trailed off, teeth worrying at his bottom lip; he hadn't meant to say quite so much, and his continuing ability to be intimidated rather easily was making him more than a little nervous about speaking up.

Rin sat quietly at the front of the class as more students walked into the room. Her blue-grey orbs immediately recognized the brunette girl as Rianna. The sixteen year old offered her a soft smile, as the student chose a different see. Renee let her gaze drop back to the table top as she was still sitting by herself.
She didn't pay much attention to the drama, and only looked up when the instructor started talking and writing on the board. The blonde opened her blank notebook and started to write down what was on the board, filling in the information that she already knew about her assigned horse.
Name: Gloriana 'Glory' Age: Height: Sex: Mare Breed: Thoroughbred Color: Markings: Brand:
She would have to measure the mare for the height, and get a better look at her for all of the other details. She looked up as a folder was placed on her desk. Maybe the age of the thoroughbred would be known in it. She grabbed the folder and opened it, starting to scan the contents, hearing as Dr. Carr explained what information was in them. She quietly closed her's and rested it on top of her notebook. She blinked and swallowed once as a question was asked among them. She took her gaze off of the teacher, not wanting to answer in front of the whole class. Even though, in her head, she could come up reasons, maybe just her own stupid opinions. She heard a boy's voice quickly pipe up, and he went off on a rather detailed answer. That was better than she could have done anyway. We are here to give these horses hope We are here to show them that there is good in humanity and they can love and trust people again. We are preparing them for a successful future, just like a teacher, for her students.. She mentally replied, her eyes filling with determination, as she could just see Glory in a large ring, glistening, flying over a jump... but, Renee couldn't take her there. She knew nothing of jumping. But, she could take that first step, and help get Glory in a position where someone would want to make her glorious. She deserved it. All of the horses did.

Erica knew she was super late to Rescue Class today. She quickly walked down the halls to the classroom. She took a breathe and hopefully Dr.Carr won't be mad at her. At least not too mad. She opened the door slowly and popped her head in. She looked around the classroom shyly, as she was the only one who was late to class. She walked in fully and shut the door behind her. "I'm so sorry I am late, Dr Carr.." She said as she turned to face Dr Carr. She then quickly took her seat near Renee and grinned over to her. She then grabbed out her small notebook and started to take notes. As she wrote down what Dr Carr specificly told us to write, she read all the rules. She nodded quietly and saw that the rules were reasonable.
Name: Adian Age: Height: Sex: Mare Breed: Gypsy Cob Colour: Markings: Brand:
That was all she knew about Adian, when she finally gets to meet the Gypsy, she would have to get her height and all of that. She sighed as she tried to sketch out a Gypsy Cob on the top right corner of her note book. She heard that the mare had some issues, yet she just shrugged. She knew somehow, she can gain her trust with her. She then stopped sketching the picture and it was only quarter of a ways done. She then looked up and listened to Dr. Carr for any other instructions she has us do.

Olivia grinned as Fox confided in her and whispered back, "Oh, so you haven't had any more time to teach her those things?" She winked, then faced front again, preparing to listen to Dr. Carr. As the woman told them about what they would be doing, she glanced through the folder that had been put down in front of her. She read through the information, making sure that it was similar to what she remembered, then opened her notebook and uncapped her pen. In green ink, she wrote onto the first page, generally centering the font. Name: Barčinka Age: Height: 13.2 hands Sex: Mare Breed: Czechoslovakian Small Riding Pony Colour: Bay Markings: N/A Brand: N/A She left a space for age, because she hadn't been provided with the information yet, and she hadn't seen the mare to make an assumption. She capped her pen again and looked up, thinking about the question Dr. Carr had asked. She grimaced as Tony took the best answer, but spoke up anyway, unwilling to be called out on not participating, "We're here to teach them about trusting, and caring. We can do that by giving them time and whatever they may need." She smiled, but quieted down again, at least having spoken.
