Peter left the rest of the paperwork for Charmander's foal sitting on his desk as the light in the room started to dim. He had nearly finished working out the registration rigamarole that the Jockey Club wanted, and he had decided on the filly's registered name. He had managed to make it follow the convoluted rules of the registry, and had written it down on the form. Now, all that remained were a few pedigree questions, which he had no inclination of answering at the moment, not when he had to walk Mei before full dark.
Leaving his office door locked firmly, he walked out of the barn, making sure to close the large barn doors as well. All of the mares, and the foals, had been brought in already, and he was the last one out, as usual. Once he had finished his visual check, he headed in the direction of the Brown Ribbon apartments, his pace fast enough that he would reach his room in five minutes. When he opened the door, he saw a silver flash and just managed to trap the vixen with a quick foot, "Not so fast, Mei." He used his foot to gently push the vulpine back before entering the room himself and shutting the door firmly. He could see that the fox was excited about the outing, dancing around his feet, so he hurried to pick up the orange harness that he had adjusted to fit her body. After buckling the straps securely into place, Peter clipped the bright orange leash onto the harness. Looping the fifty-foot leash around until there were only a good six feet loose, he opened the door to his apartment again, letting the platinum pearl fox lead the way.
Together, the pair made their way across the snowy campus of the start of the trails. Choosing one of the three at random, Peter found his feet taking him down the Blue River trail, heading downstream. Mei meandered ahead on the full span of her leash, exploring everything that came to her nose and seemed interesting. As they entered a meadow, Peter looked around, surprised to see so much undisturbed snow surrounding the trails. Leaving the broken trail, he slowly made his way to the middle of the meadow, ignoring the wet hems of his pants.
