Manfred led Nacht down to the main office. The dog frolicked at his side, tongue lolling, happy as could be. It had only been a day since Manfred had said goodbye to Serenity, but Nacht's departure had been planned for the past month, and had already been finalized. The dog would be going to a good home, a family that had started taking an interest in Agility, and had been looking for a dog that had started training, but still had enough fire to go far in the competition. Due to a lack of time to keep the dog's training up to date, Manfred had mentioned the black shepherd, and the deal had indeed come to pass. Of course, neither side could foresee the sudden turn in events that had led Manfred to choose to put Serenity down, but it was still two pangs at the same time that Manfred didn't feel he needed. As he arrived at the office, he saw the family already in the parking lot. He walked over, and after the pleasantries, gave the dog's leash to the teenaged boy who would be the dog's main handler now. He bent down to the dog and pretended to lecture him to be good, and after a while, said his goodbyes. He watched as the car drove away, with the black dog in the backseat, feeling rather lonely, even though he still had one more dog, and the one who, when he admitted it to himself, was his favorite.
