The weekend had rolled around quickly. With classes flying by each day Belle had hardly noticed that it was Saturday. This morning the eighteen year old had taken her Quarter Horse out on the trail. The mare was defiantly turning around. Having spent the whole morning out in the barns working with Seren and Penny and now her body was taking control. Belle's stomach growled as she made her way back up to her room. As the air changed from smelly horsey to smelling 'cleaner' the girl's eyes widen. Yep I've been out in the barn all morning. Deciding to get a shower she did so quickly and then went down to the cafeteria. Usually the mess hall wasn't her place to be seen. Eating wasn't a priority for her, although she did, it was just smaller things. Opening the doors the smell of food hit her in the face. Looking over what was on the menu for today, all of the items seemed edible. Seeing a Caesars salad, she asked politely for a water she moved to the cash register paid and then walked off to a table. Letting out a deep breath she opened up her water and took a drink. The ice cold liquid felt good on her dry throat. Beginning to eat her salad she was happy with how the day was going. Laurena's eyes flew open. She glanced over at the alarm clock. 10:45 it read, in aqua blue font. Panic immediately washed over her.
Dammit, I'm already two hours late! Laurena rushed over to her closet, and threw on a white polo shirt and some dolphin-grey swear pants. She jogged out the door and down the stairs, almost bumping in to two other girls. Why isnt anyone in class? She picked up her phone. It read, "Saturday, 12:54 am". Laurena breathed an immense sigh of relief, and calmly made her way toward the cafeteria. When she entered, it was quite full. Laurena scanned the tables for a place to sit, and of course, there were no empty tables. Being that she has not met anyone nor has she made any friends yet, this was her chance to actually meet people. She went into the cafeteria and grabbed a cheeseburger and fries. She paid the cashier, and walked back into the big cafeteria. She spotted a table with just one person, a blonde, sitting alone. Laurena casually approached the table, and said what any, smooth individual would say. Hi. Uh, I'm new here! Is this seat taken? She smiled hopefully.

Watching people leave and enter the cafeteria, there were many reasons why this wasn't exactly her favorite place. For one crowds weren't a plus for Belle, she was diagnosed with being a claustrophobic, but she was pretty sure she was in some situations. Continuing to eat her salad, she was getting full. Eating that much in one sitting wasn't what she did on a regular basis. One girl came in that caught the eighteen year old's eye. With no doubt in her mind the senior knew the girl was knew here. Although she had only been here for about two years she was pretty familiar with everyone's face, this girl she wasn't in Bell's memort bank. Turning her attention back to her salad it was slowly but surely disappearing. Oddly enough that same girl had ended up at her table.
Hi. Uh, I'm new here! Is this seat taken?
With no one else going to sit down Belle finished chewing the food and shook her head. "Go right ahead, I'm Belle by the way, welcome to Blue Ridge." The girl only confirmed her thoughts as she introduced herself. A smile found itself comfortably on the eighteen year old's face. Belle was actually happy to have someone to talk to. Waiting for the girl to sit, the senior looked up at the, what she was guessing, younger classman.

Laurena smiled warmly as the girl invited her to sit down.
Great, thanks! Laurena sat down in seat directly across from the girl. She unwrapped her cheeseburger, and took an apprehensive bite. She hates eating in front of people -- for whatever reason, it makes her feel judged. She burger was surprisingly good, for cafeteria food. The girl in front of her had a very inviting face, as if she was meant to be sitting here at this table with her at this exact time. It was exciting in a way, no one had really acknowledge her, except for the new girl. It was at that moment she realized that she hadn't introduced herself yet. Oh! How rude! I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Laurena, but everyone calls me Cal. It's a funny sort, really, about my name. She was blabbering, something Laurena does all of the time when she is nervous. She smiled sheepishly, hoping she didn't already leave a bad impression with the girl. Laurena prided herself on the fact that she has outstanding charisma and social skills, but, for whatever reason, they weren't taking form at all in the past week of being in Blue Ridge. Making friends was usually so effortless for her, but the people here in Kentucky seemed to be a different breed from the laid back people she knows from California.

Not wanting to make the girl feel uncomfortable the eighteen year old went back to eating her salad. The last few leaves sat in the bowl and Belle sat her fork down. A few glance were cast at the girl sitting opposite of her but silence separated them. Then the other girl, Belle could identify as Cal introduced herself.
Oh! How rude! I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Laurena, but everyone calls me Cal. It's a funny sort, really, about my name.
A slight giggle escaped from Belle as she gathered that Cal was nervous. "Well my name is Annabelle, but that makes me seem like I'm from the olden days, so everyone just calls me Belle." Another small chuckle came from the senior as she tried to make the new girl feel welcomed. As she knew all too well, some people in this school weren't as welcoming and that just sucked when you were trying to befriend them. Unfortunately she had experienced it as well. "So how long have you been at Blue Ridge?" Playing her words back in her mind Belle was actually surprised at herself as she usually wasn't the one to begin and at that continue a conversation. The eighteen year old sat there waiting, in her head she played a game trying to guess which style of riding she did. Most of the time she was wrong but hey, you never know.

I've been here about a week. I know, I'm super new. Laurena smiled sheepishly. She picked up her cheeseburger and took a bite, and dang, was it tasty. Cafeteria food, for as long as Laurena can remember, has always been gross. But here, the food was actually good. She took another bite, just to make sure she was not imagining it. She set the burger down, not wanting to appear gluttonous.
What about you? Have you been here a while? The girl was really easy to talk to, as she was inquisitive in a nice, welcoming way. Laurena likes people like that, who ask questions in a nice way, but not in a nosy, trying to size you up sort of way. She could tell these two will get along, as she also likes to ask questions. Getting to know people is one of Laurena's passions -- to create conversation and just learn what the other person is all about. She picked up a handful of fries and swallowed them down.
Wow, these need some ketchup, like, now! She laughed, and got up and grabbed some ketchup packets form the nearby condiment stand. She sat back down, and smiled.
Sorry, I just can't live without ketchup! She got back to eating, eager to learn more about the girl.
