Turn away 'cause I need you more
Personality>> Hope used to live up to her name very well, helping everyone she knew to enjoy their lives more and generally lending a happier air to the world. The summer of her sixteenth year changed all of that however, and after 'the indecent' that no one knows about to this day, and from then on, she seemed strained. Five years later, she is better at playing hopeful and happy, but it is hard, when everything tries to remind her of that terrible night. Her only solace is found in her horses and in teaching everyone she can the therapeutic qualities a horse can offer.
Likes>> `Thunder storms
`Western books and movies
`'Rank' or 'feisty' horses
`Watching the NFR and other rodeos even though she herself rides English
`Cowboys (I mean who doesn't?!)
Dislikes>> `Any form of abuse, having gone through her fair share.
`Hairnets, they are annoying little buggers aren't they!
`Fake people, they just rub her the wrong way.
`The cold, weather, pools or houses, anything cold just sets her on edge.
`Rap, Reggae, Metal, basically any kind of music that isn't Country or old Rock.
Fears>>
`Being raped or otherwise abused again, and quite understandably.
`A cage, Being trapped in life and not able to fulfill her dreams.
Hopes>>
`Like most young women, she wants to find that special someone to spend her life with.
`Almost more than that though, she wants to become known as the best eventer in Kentucky, the USA or hell, the world!
Secrets>> As a young woman, Hope was a victim to rape, she was only sixteen at the time. She has told no one in her life and now, as five years have gone by, she can not press charges against the man, even if she knew who he was.
It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
Appearance>> In front of others, Hope is a self confident, stern and strong woman. She holds herself in a way that most would take as cold, but once they spend some more time around her it seems as if she is more guarded than cold. This all changes however when she is alone or in the company of her animals. She becomes a frail, almost scared young woman. She seems to always be wearing breeches and tall boots, a polo shirt tucked into her pants and a jumping whip on her wrist and her hair in a tight braid. Not many people see her outside the barns however. When she is at home or out with friends, she is a little more relaxed. She wears black boot cut jeans, sometimes dark blue, a pretty but informal shirt and snip toe cowboy boots. Her hair is left to its own devices when she is at home and hangs in little waves just past her shoulders.
Markings>> Minor scars and marks from different riding accidents, nothing more.
But I’ve gotta let it go
Medical History>> Broken leg at age eighteen, healed nicely and she hardly feels it now.
Criminal History>> Not a mark on her record save for one speeding ticket.
Full History>>
Hope grew up on a home style ranch with both her parents, her three older brothers and innumerable animals. Her father raised Hereford cows and pure bred Quarter Horses and for the first ten years of her life, Hope learned all about the western way of life. She could rope near anything by age twelve, drive the old stick shift Chevy farm truck and the John Deer tractor at thirteen, and when she hit fourteen, could basically run the ranch herself, save for the book keeping.
Her mother was fond of saying that from the time Hope could crawl and scoot out to the horses pen, she could climb up aboard any horse she chose and ride. Her first equine love was a stocky bay gelding by the name of Skipper. He was an old gentle horse, bombproof and people friendly, he taught Hope to love riding. When he died of colic at the age of 28, Hope was devastated. She didn't go outside for days, hiding in the house and milling from room to room before her mother, fed up with the young girl's restlessness, kicked her outside to help her father.
Maybe it was fate that she was forced out the door on that early fall morning. Her father had just returned from an auction with her oldest brother Mike. Her brother was her best friend, he was nice to her and taught her all she would need know to survive in the world. He taught her to bare knuckle fight and play sports. He helped her with her homework and comforted her when she got bullied in high school.
As thirteen year old Hope watched Mike and her father unload the new crop of horses, she tried to stay hidden. Both men knew she was under the cattle chutes, but neither bothered her, too busy in their work. Within minutes, ten new horses were milling around the pens, calling to each other and looking at their new home with wide eyes. Hope just sat and watched them, tears for her lost horse sliding down her pale cheeks. She didn't know how long she sat there, but when she at last became more aware, her tears had dried and Mike was sitting next to her, silently as always.
As darkness began to fall, brother and sister still sat under the chutes watching the now calm horses mill through each other, chewing absently on hay. It was then that the filly caught Hope's eye. She was beautiful, a long legged blue roan paint. Her face was slightly dished and her body dainty. When Hope asked Mike about her, he had smiled at her and told her that the filly was hers if she wanted her.
She was Hope's saving grace, and her name became such. 'Grace' was a fiery mare. Her Thoroughbred half made her a spunky ride, willing to do most anything for her rider, while her paint half offered a quieter, softer side when she was introduced to young kids. Together, Hope and Grace taught each other about riding with some help from Mike.
On her fourteenth birthday, Hope decided that she and Grace were going to be eventers and from that day on, she hasn't looked back, wanting only to become the best eventer that she can.
Grace helper her through her sixteenth year and listened while Hope told her everything that had gone wrong with her life. How the pretty girls at school mocked her and how the star quarter back didn't know she even existed. She told her even about her abuse at the hands of a stranger.
Grace could listen and speak to Hope, but she could never talk the way a human could. The only human who Hope could talk to about almost anything had left however, gone to Africa to help the starving children. With Mike gone, Hope tells only Grace her secrets and never lets on to a single human her pain.
We found love in a hopeless place
