Full Name: Sydney Brooke Carlson
Nick Names: Syd
Student or Staff: Student
Age: 13
Ethnicity: white
Gender: female
Physical Description:
Sydney is a short kid, only standing at 4'8", though she has been reassured that she'll hit her growth spurt any time now. Her curly, light brown hair is long, reaching down to about mid to lower back, and its generally fairly windswept and messy. And, of course, it is always left down. Her eyes are also a light brown color, though the shade is slightly darker than her hair, and a different brown, making an interesting contrast between the two. A trail of freckles goes across her nose. Very thin and agile, she is a few pounds under a healthy weight, weighing in at seventy pounds. Skin and bones, she doesn't even have huge muscles to compensate for her lack of body weight. However, she is physically active, and has lots of stamina, so she can run for long periods of time, at a considerably fast rate.
Personality:
Sydney isn't the most friendly of kids, though that isn't to say she is mean or rude. True, she can be, but she doesn't try to be that way, it just happens. She has this view that the world will only let you down in the end, so she's reluctant to grow attached to anything, though she's so trusting its hard not to. Upon first meeting she can be somewhat clipped and cautious, though its fairly easy to get her to warm up to you. However, Sydney's trust once lost is extremely hard to get back. She also has a quick temper, and once it's lost she's a bit nasty, saying things she may later regret and not mean. She guarded, and broken. She's just a little girl, lost and confused, trying to find a place for herself in the world.
Background:
~Family~
Noah Carlson - Father - Deceased
Ivy Carlson - Mother - Deceased
Harper Reed - Godmother
Sydney never knew her father, he having been poisoned shortly after she was born. It was a horrific event, and no one really understood why someone would murdered the likable man. Ivy, Sydney's mother, was devastated, and she went through a lot, dealing with her grief, funeral costs, court hearings, and taking care of a newborn. It was hard for her, and she wouldn't have been able to handle it all, had her best friend Harper Reed not been there for her. Once it was all done with, however, Ivy began mending from the blow of her lost husband. Instead, she embraced life, loving every moment and showering her daughter in that love.
Growing up, the little girl never needed anything. She never wanted anything. Her mother was the center of her world, and she adored her godmother, Harper. Both mother and godmother were artists, and from them she developed her own love of art, enjoying sketching and portraits, mostly. And, for her young age, she was extremely good. Her mother often comments that the girl is an artistic genius, though she does it entirely for fun, and shows very few her work, always embarrassed over how people would make such a big deal.
Overall, she was content. She mother wasn't the richest woman in the world, being an art teacher in Kansas, but even with the small house, thrift store bought clothes, and few toys, she really wasn't lacking. Her mother was always laughing, making games out of everything. Really, why would she need toys, with her mother so spontaneous? Plus, her godmother, who was also an art teacher, but with no child to support, often bought her gifts, brought her out to fairs and carnivals, and spoiled the girl to the best of her ability. Having the two women, she was the picture of a happy child.
This happiness ended when Ivy Carlson died in a head on collision with a large semi-truck. Sydney, twelve years old, seemed to die along with her mother, and nothing could bring her back. Having no family of her own, she was put into the custody of her godmother, Harper. The woman, while loving the girl, wasn't sure how to raise her, or even what to do with a kid. It was one thing to spoil and goof off with one. It was an entirely different one to be responsible for them. But, she did her best, but it was difficult. The girl seemed bitter, as if she expected life to disappoint her, and it strained their relationship.
It was shortly after Sydney's thirteenth birthday that her godmother was offered a job at a school in Kentucky. It was better paying, while also offering room and board, even going so far as to give Sydney a discounted enrollment as a student. Better education, at a fraction of the price other students had. A steal of a deal. Sydney hated the idea. She didn't want to leave Kansas, the only thing from her past that was still, fully intact. But, Harper had made up her mind, and after much fighting and arguments, which left Sydney even angrier with her godmother than before, the two packed up and were off.
Misc.:
Sydney is a little girl who believes that life is only filled with disappointments. She is a bit cautious around new people, but is so trusting its easy enough to befriend her. However, once you lose her trust, good luck getting it back. She is an amazing artist, though her best works are in portraits, landscapes, and animals. She isn't good at drawing things from her imagination, but can copy something from the real world to make it the near mirror image. Her mother called her a artistic genius. However, she is reluctant to show her work to people. She doesn't know anything about horses, though she is slightly interested in them. It would probably take a push from someone before she'd actually try riding, though. Her mother's play by is Keira Knightley.
