Cara walked across campus and to the vet clinic, the Arabian gelding she was leading wasn't being the most cooperative of creatures, but he walked at her shoulder - seeming to be happy that he had someone to follow even if his did pin his ears back at the smallest things.
Walking into the vet-barn, she looked around at the two horses who had their head lazily hanging over their door. "Hello Flame, Bonjour Belle." She greeted both horses. "Would Dr Clarkson be around?" She knew that neither horse would answer her, but she knew that Flame knew his owner's name and would give her some indication if he was close-by.
Being a vet student, this place was like a second home. Even so, she entered the place like anyone else and waited for the vet to appear before she went any further if she had a horse. She had brought Ghalib to the clinic so that she could have his teeth checked in case his wood chewing had cause any long lasting damage to them. She didn't even want to think of what the wood that he may be ingesting could be doing to his stomach! She had already given him a dose of worming paste and was already working on his feed schedule as well as what she wanted to add to his stall to try and keep him more occupied while he was cooped up. She even had a mental list of things she wanted to put in the pasture when he was out grazing.
She tied the dark chestnut gelding to the wall and stood there running a finger up and down his blaze as she waited. She needed to ask Dr Clarkson if he had any empty large plastic containers lying around.
She took a spiral bound notebook and pen out of the bag that was over her shoulder. Once happy that the gelding wasn't going to try and run away, she sat down on the ground a few feet away, opened the book to an empty page and began drawing quick sketches of the toys she wanted to put together for the horse... She wondered if she would have to ask someone else to cut the holes into the plastic, there was a slight technicality that she wasn't supposed to use sharp knives.
One of the pictures looked like a mini drum with holes and a cord on the end. This would be filled with treats and left in the stall so that the gelding would have to roll it around to get the treats out. The cord was so that it could be attached to the stall if he got into the habit of throwing it out of the stall.
She looked up at the sound of footsteps...
