Serena stepped out from the warm day, into the large school cafeteria. She enjoyed the warmth on her back, but she was hungry enough to abandon the daylight for artificial light. Standing in the cue, she wondered what she would have. Serena was hungry, but she didn't feel like the heavy meals that were serving. She settled on a salad and an apple. Her blonde tresses hung around her tanned face, and her mouth was in a smile, as it almost always was.

Her mind had struck a blank at any thought over guys. Serena had decided that she was just gonna leave it be. Walking back to a table she sat down, and picked at her food. Hunger still didn't dominate her thoughts, but her gelding did. Looking out for anyone she knew, she made sure that her glances were quick and fast, so as not to linger on anyone for too long.

Jude entered the cafeteria late in the day, feeling the departing sun's rays brush against his neck and back. He was still dressed in his riding clothes, having come from a trail ride and looked lazily at the options they had for food. Sighing, he thought back to the time had had first in the Roscoe's arena, then on the trail ride. Serena was definitely a fun and interesting person, but she confused him. Sighing again, he looked back towards the options for food, grabbing a bottle of water and an apple. As he exited the line, he glanced around the cafeteria, hoping to find someone he recognized. Upon first glanc, he recognized no one and sighed, walking over to a window seat and sitting in it.

Cracking open his bottle of water, he glanced around the room again, still recognizing no one. He was not used to this, this knowing no one and felt very uncomfortable. Although he met a few people here, he still felt very much alone. Thinking about his three boys, he realized he was not alone and a quick smile flew upon his lips. As he finished the bottle of water, he rose to throw it away and tucked the apple into his pocket. He decided he would head to the barn and split the apple between his boys. He began to walk across the room, when he saw Serena sitting all alone at a table. She looked lonely and as confused as he felt, and he wondered what she was thinking about. Before he could stop himself, he found himself sauntering over to her table. He stopped once he reached a seat, and spoke quietly to Serena. "Hello there again.. How are you doing?" He paused before thinking to himself, yeah real good game Jude.. "You mind if I join you?" He gazed down upon her with his bright blue eyes and smiled warmly

The box Riley was holding was white, and had a string stapled to one of the tabs on the end. This box was also squeaking slightly, as it was filled with mice. 12 of them, to be precise. (it was a pretty large box) Riley smiled at the box. He had used it many times to fill people's rooms up with mice, back at his old boarding school. Today, Riley was wearing his purple contacts and eyeliner, just to see how many people would get offended. His usual sunglasses were pulled low, and he was wearing his favorite black Trilby. Sufficiently breaking the dress code, I think, Riley thought. Glancing up, he caught the eye of pretty blond girl, sitting with a guy. They didn't really look like a couple....

Showtime, Riley thought, picking up his bag and walking over, stuffing the box of mice in the bag as he did.
"Hey, I'm Riley Cruz. I've been here for about a day and a half, mind if I sit down?" he said, slightly in a rush.

When Serena saw Jude, she smiled, and hoped that he would come over. He did and she was bursting from joy inside. Yeah sure. I'm doing great. How are you? she asked but before he could answer another guy came over and also asked if he could sit down. With a look at Jude she answered once again. Yeah. Welcome to Blue Ridge. I'm Serena Waldorf. Pleasure to meet you Riley. She would let Jude introduce himself, it would be better that way.

She shifted up so that Jude could sit next to her, and Riley across from them. It made her feel safer that Jude was next to her. Serena knew that she would have to take matters into her own hands if she was ever going to go out with Jude. It seemed that he wasn't going to ask her, and he seemed that he was a shy guy. Taking a scrap of paper, she quickly wrote a short note and pressed it into his palm. It read:

Jude,

I really like you, and I was wondering if you would join me for coffee sometime.

She smiled at him with that dazzling smile that she had. So Riley, how did you come to be at Blue Ridge?

Jude smiled once she answered and ran a hand through his short, cropped hair casually. "I'm doing really well.." Sliding a chair out, he slumped down into a chair next to Serena, enjoying the closeness with her. Hearing another boy approach, he looked up and glanced at the other boy, casually meeting his eyes. He was quite annoyed that the expression on the boy's face thought they were not together, which they weren't yet. Sighing, he introduced himself curtly, "Hey there, I'm Jude. He did not offer any other words, and then looked back at Serena, smiling in her direction again.

Feeling the pressure of Serena's fingers pressing down upon his palm, he looked down and saw the paper she had placed there. Casually he opened the paper and read the words, once they registered in his mind, a huge smile broke out onto his face. He quickly darted his eyes in her direction, and knew she probably thought he was a shy person. Smiling, he reached over, brushed her blond hair aside and leaned over, whispering quietly in her ear. "I would love to meet you sometime for coffee" He smiled, leaning back forward and glanced at the other boy again

Riley smiled, and sat down, dropping his bag under the table.
Riley answered Serena, “My father got tired of bailing me out of jail and then hiring what I like to call sports-lawyers to win my case. Then there’s the tattoos, but then that’s another story entirely. My guess is that he thought that dumping me in some small town would keep me out of trouble. We’ll see if that’s the case...” To tell the truth, Riley didn't think he was capable of staying out of trouble. The excitement of the trick was too much to resist for Riley and running from police was too dāmn fun.
Then guy called Jude introduced himself. Riley detected a hint of annoyance in Jude's tone, witch slightly surprised Riley...

A very loud series of squeaks distracted Riley.
"Oh Unicorn Poop, Vommie's gone and attacked someone again." Riley said as he dived down to break up the argument between the two mice.

Serena was so tempted to tell Jude to play nice. After all Riley was new at the Academy. They all were. Riley just hadn't been here as long though. Jude must've known that she didn't fancy any other guy except him. Well, maybe only another one, but he was now non-existent to her.

Riley seemed to be a trouble-maker. Like they said bird's of a feather flock together. Serena herself had been one after her father's death. That was why she had left England, to escape the world that had destroyed her so much. Hearing the squeaks coming from Riley's direction, she nearly burst out laughing. Are those mice you have there? she asked. Serena loved any animal, and the smaller one's always made her laugh.

Mice just seemed to awkward pets to be carrying around in the school. Many girls would freak out if they happened to escape, but Serena was made of tougher things. May I please see them? she asked again.

Jude straightened in his seat, puzzled by the girl's response to his answer. Sighing, he ran a hand through his hair nervously again and looked around the cafeteria. There were tons of people in the room, meeting people and just chatting. The sun was just beginning to set on the horizon of the academy and the sight was breath taking.

He looked down at his hands, rested on the table in front of him, then glanced at Serena generously. She was looking like a free spirit, with those bright colors cladding her body. He liked the free-ness of the girl and smiled warmly. Dropping his hands, he looked down at them again. He was tempted to grab hold of one of Serena's hands under the table. Slowly, he reached out towards her hands, and brushed it lightly, opening a palm for her under the table. He had no idea if she would accept it but it was a start.

Riley opened the box, and grabbed hold of Vommie's tail, and dumped him into a smaller box. Serena then asked if she could see them. Riley smiled. His mice were not the prettiest out there. Pretty much all of them had been though the mill of being feeder mice. One was missing an ear, another, a tail. Vommy was so named because he was completely white, except for a brown patch dribbled down his chin.
"Here ya' go.. Try not to let them go, they can get expensive." Riley said, handing Serena the box of mice, with a glance at Jude. For some reason, he thought he had seen him somewhere...

Before Serena received the mice, she felt the slightest of brushes on her hand. She gave a quick glance down, and saw that it was Jude's hand. A small smile played on her lips. Serena reached moved her hand across, slipped into his, and kept it there. One handed Serena reached for the box of mice.

They're a bit...ragged aren't they? she asked. The mice were a mixed bunch, but she found them cute. Serena had grown up watching field mice, and other forest creatures scampering about. Her early childhood were sunny days spent with her father looking for foxes and other animals. Nothing really scared her in the form of animals.

Unable to control herself, she started questioning once again. It was unusual for her to keep quiet longer than a few minutes. Not that she cared what people thought. What are you planning to do with them? Serena managed a quick glance at Jude. Serena actually liked him. Chris was now totally out of her mind. Jude occupied that space now.

Jude let a small smile flicker upon her face when Serena took a hold of his hand under the table. He grasped it firmly in his hand and began to trace small figures over the top of her hand. Listening to Riley and Serena speak about the mice, he let his thoughts wander to his most recent relationship before he arrived at the academy. Bristol, was an absolute bombshell brunette, who knew exactly how gorgeous she was. She was the reason he got these incredible abs, as she never let up on him, and she enjoyed running her hands down them and feeling the ripples. She was not a good person to Jude the majority of the time though, and it was not soon after they started dating that he found out she was cheating on him with his best friend. He broke it off with her immediately, and she realized her mistake, often calling Jude and begging him to take her back.

Shaking his head slightly, he encouraged the thoughts to leave his mind as quickly as they came. She was in the past and he was excited for the rest of his life. Serena and Riley were still talking about the mice and he allowed himself to take a glance at them. They definitely looked beat up, and he wondered what that boy was doing with a box full of beat up mice. When Serena asked Riley what he was planning on doing with them, Jude looked over at Riley.

Earlier, he had noticed Riley giving him a look like Riley knew Jude from somewhere, but Jude was pretty sure he had never seen Riley before this place. Well.. he did not think he had. Sighing quietly, he looked back over at Serena and flashed a mischievous grin at her. He was hoping that she would catch his grin and take note of it.

Serena noticed the glance that Jude gave her. She smiled back, directing it at him. The pad of paper and her pen was still on her left side, and she quickly scribbled another note to Jude.

Meet me in Psych's paddock tonight at 8. Don't say anything just shake or nod your head. =)

She wasn't planning on anything great. She just wanted to talk, it was something that they hadn't really done much since they met each other. There was nothing for it. Serena was either going to send Jude running for the hills, or he'll understand and stay by her side.
