Bay thought he would be the only person heading out this way. Robby was all tacked up and ready to go. The country boy led him down to the entrance of the trail. He pulled the stirrups down, which had been adjusted the way Ms. Carr had suggested them to be, a bit shorter than he usually rode them with. But, he reckoned the woman knew way more about that than any student at the academy, especially him. His horse heard the approcahing company sooner than he did. The thoroughbred's head shot up and turned to the right, brown oracles focusing on the approaching horse and rider.
Avery hadn't rode once since he had been here. He talked to his dad, telling the man they had good horses, just so he wouldn't have to go buy one and take care of it. He led a blue roan by the reins down the walk, hearing the trails were a sight to see. The cowboy had been taught horses were more like items, like a car. They were for the purpose of winning money. All his life he was forced to ride competitivley. To tell the truth, he was rather burnt out on the beasts. But, respecting his father enough, he wanted to try and like them. After all, it seemed people told about 'connections' they had with the animals. His dad had never said anything about that. The young man just thought that maybe a new expierence would shed some light on the subject. His soft brown eyes looked ahead, and he noticed a bay thoroughbred, but couldn't make out a rider until he got close. His brow rose, without really meaning too, at the pair. They looked like complete opposites. The blonde boy, who looked about his age, was dressed in jeans, boots, belt, and a t-shirt tucked in with a long sleeve over shirt open. The thoroughbred, was tacking in English gear. Avery was curious about this pair, was starting to think that maybe the whole 'connection' thing wasn't just bogus. He offered the boy, who now seemed rather shy, a friendly smile, "Afternoon, name's Avery Johnson."
The farm boy saw him coming. The cowboy hat gave it all away. His blue eyes looked to the ground. This was probably just another jerk on the rodeo time going to ridicule him for his ways. Hearing the man's voice, he looked up. He noted that this cowboy's personality didn't fit the usual reputation, "Bay Cromwell," he said, and held out his hand. Both boys shook it around the same strength. Bay's eyes drifted to the horse, and he saw the white brand on the animal's cheek, "Is that a academy horse?" he asked.
Avery nodded his head, "Yeah. Sam is his barn name," he added. His brown eyes looked over at the horse who hng his head calmly. He looked out at the trail, "Have you ever been on this trail?" he asked.
Bay shook his head, "Nope. Never have," he finished tinkering with his horse's gear and turned to his new accuantince, "Wanna ride it together?" The boy was hoping so, he needed some freinds, he was kind of lonely.
At the suggestion, a smile brightened the cowboy's face, "That would be great, the more the merrier."Outfits: Bay<3,, Avery<3Horses: Robby<3,, Southern Affair<3(second one down)

Cara closed her eyes as she turned the gelding she was riding onto the advanced trail. Her fingers played with the reins as she asked the large bay to drop his head, and her fingers stilled the instant he dropped his head. She sat deep in the close contact saddle that the gelding wore, hoping that they had the trail to themselves as she could only imaging what her tiny stature looked like sitting astride the eighteen hand Irish Draft. She was riding the gentle giant so that not only she could test and see that he was what the academy had paid for, but to also give him a chance to stretch his legs and have a little fun before novice riders were put on his back. They had only ridden as far as from the barns and she could already tell that Donovan was the complete gentleman that his show name - Gentleman Tophat - said he was. As they made their way down the trail, she asked the gelding to transition between walk and trot - just to see how responsive he was and how quickly he could change gait. As they made their way down the path, her mount pricked his ears forward, alerting her of more people ahead of them. The young teen asked the gelding to return to a walk before they rounded the corner. As they came around, she firstly recognised the horses; Sam and Robby. The boy on Robby she recognised from her English class and from the weekend course that Miss Carr organized. The boy sitting astride the blue roan Quarter Horse? She didn't have a clue. Outfit: Cara

The two boys were ready to ride. Avery, without really thinking, mounted up in the saddle like a robot controlled his mind. He didn't even double think his hands were right, or the position of his feet were right. He did watch in interest, as Bay pulled the stirrups down, but then used almost pure arm strength to vault into the saddle over the thoroughbred's back. When the blonde kid looked back at him, he offered a smile, "Pretty impressive."
Bay felt color rush in his cheeks at the cowboy's comment, "Thanks." His horse suddenly pricked it's ears and stared intentley at an approaching figure before it let out a nicker in greeting. The boy turned his head to look also. There was one heckuva horse heading their way. It had to be the biggest mount on the academy, and it looked like a five year old girl was riding him. But, as the pair got closer, the girl turned into a 15 or 16 year old. If his memory was right, her name was Cara. She was supposedly smart and practically a 'horse whisperer' or whatever you wanted to call it.
"Got yourself a handful of horse there dont'cha?" the freindly cowboy called out, eyeing the huge creature. It was practically four hand taller than the mount he was on.

Cara raised an eyebrow at the comment, no doubt it was to do with her size and the horse she was riding. "He's a sweetheart, so far." She replied with a small shrug. Give me a pony with spunk any day. She added silently. She was actually finding the Irish Draft a very boring ride, the gelding didn't even give a nicker in reply to Robby's greeting. She shifted uncomfortably in the saddle at having the undivided attention of the boys, and her shifting caused the gelding to take a couple of steps backward which gave the girl even more of an idea on how well trained he was. "This is Donovan, he is one of the new Academy horses and I have the job of making sure he is what was purchased now that he is at his new home."
Taking the reins in one hand, she reached her left hand behind her to touch the saddle bags that the gelding had behind his saddle, just to assure herself that she had remembered her own water bottle as well as a water bag for her mount. She knew she'd packed them and her memory shouldn't let her forget, but she hadn't exactly been feeling herself lately. Maybe she was coming down with something? Either way, she just needed to get over it and get on with what she needed to do.

Avery nodded a couple times in responce to the girl's reply. His soft brown eyes looked over the gentle giant, no judgeing intended, "Oh, so you're an excersizer then?" he questioned. He knew that as an on-campus job one could ride the academy horses that weren't assigned to the students. Maybe even ride other student's horses on request.
"I don't know how much they paid for him, but he seems like a gentle laid back horse.. which can be a bad thing if he needs to perform well," Bay added in, "What's his main discipline?" The boy was surprised the girl seemed as talkative as she was, but then, most people had split personalities when it came to acting in a classroom, and that was all Bay had pretty much seen of her. He hadn't really paid her that much attention when riding in the arena, there were alot of students and horses, and a lot of things going on.

Cara blushed at the question of her being an exerciser. "No, Sir." She replied softly. "I just help out if Miss Carr has more horses than she does riders." She sat deep in the saddle and squeezed with her right leg, she released the pressure when the gelding took a step to the left and she wondered how much dressage training he'd had and if he used to be an eventing horse rather than just cross country.
Her cat-coloured eyes flickered toward Bay as he spoke and she looked away again. "His information sheet says that he is... was used to teach novice riders the ins and outs of cross country." Her nose curled slightly as the gelding placidly stood in place, waiting for the girl to tell him he could move. Bay had a point, a horse that was too laid back was really good for nothing more than a trail horse to accompany novice horses. There again though, maybe it was just that the girl was used to riding the horses that no one else wanted to ride because they had too much spirit.
