- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Two red-headed females strode side by side down the aisle of the barn. The one on the left had a lot lighter hair compared to the one on the right. The taller of the two, Scarlett, turned to El' and indicated to the chestnut mule next to the Appaloosa, both with their craniums slung over their wooden doors. The mule gave an almighty kick at his stall door when he saw his mistress. That's him, El' Scar sighed. El' had offered to try and help Scar with her mules behavior. He was lovely with humans and other horses, but he had terrible ground manners and didn't really know his strength. The eighteen year old was just getting worse with age, getting more set in his ways. Well then, let's see what we can do. beamed the friendly, more compact female. Lively El' was just happy to have something to do, happy to have someone to talk to. Shy Scar had approached the female when she was sat in the dorm lounge, hanging upside down on her chair. Scar had thought El' was going bored out of her mind, and that's why she was sat the way she was. El' informed her that she was bored, but that was not why she was sitting that way, it was the way she always sat. Scar had laughed and offered if El' would like to come and help with Dakota. So, here they were. El' had chattered all the way from the lounge, telling Scar about Hank, her pony, where she had lived and about her riding experience. Scar liked El' already. She didn't like to speak, she was happy to listen. El' liked to speak, and happy for someone else to listen. Occasionally she asked the odd question which suited Scarlett perfectly.
El' watched as Scar brought the impatient mule from his stall. The appaloosa in the stall next to him threw his hoof at the ground angrily. He obviously wanted to get out as well. El' walked to him and rubbed his soft muzzle gently. This seemed to calm the cute equine and Scar was able to tie up Dakota without any more objections. Once the mule realized he had been tied up, his head began to thrash around violently, his frame rocking back on his heels and he began to bray louder than anything El' had heard before. See what I mean! Scar shouted over the noise. Scar rushed to un-clip the lead rope and the gelding silenced instantly. El' chuckled at that, it was obvious the mule adored Scar, but this had to stop. Not only was it annoying for Scarlett, but it was teaching her other three horses bad manners and disrupting the other equines around them. Well, you could try and wear him out through the day? Or, is he happy when out in the pasture? she asked, before following up with, I know it's not a long time solution, but I think it will work before someone more experienced comes along and offers expertise. Scar nodded but then sighed. The problem is, I have three other horses to work and he is so stubborn that I get worn out before him. Scar chuckled softly before re-attaching Dakota to the lead rope. Well, I only have Hank to exercise, so I can ride him if you like? offered, and Scar nodded gratefully. It took the mule longer to realize he was clipped back onto the lead rope this time, but once he did, his performance started again. Scar clutched her head in her hands in despair, but El' couldn't help laughing. At least everyone knows when Dakota has a problem she snorted to Scar.

At the sound of braying, two heads popped up, a chestnut and a dark bay. The two new horses gazed around for a minute before the bay's head went down once more.
The chestnut remained alert, his head cocked to the side with curiousity dawnign in his eyes. Sky took a few steps forward and nickered to El', his blazed face politely asking her what was going on.
Suddenly, the bay's head was raised once more and a throaty nicker sounded across the barn to meet the audits of two boys just entering. They were obviously related, though one was a bit taller than the other and had an air of confidence about him. The smaller of the two seemed more refined and delicate in his features. He was quiet as his brother yapped at him excitably.
Australian vocals carried to the two new horses, and both of them were intent on the boys, nostrils vibrating silently. The talking boy was obviously their owner, from the way the geldings responded to his voice.
Jack suddenly noticed the girls and smiled at them. "G'day ladies." He greeted them, a broad smile crossing his face.
Wes hung back warily, his shy nature making him seem like a brooding shadow of his older brother as he went to Barrier and Sky, gently running his long, sometimes described as piano hands across the smooth face and silky forelock.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The smaller of the two looked around when the sound of a soft nicker close to her ear. Good job it was so close, otherwise she would never of heard it. She turned to face the chestnut and address his inquisitive expression. Well Hunnie, Dakota has a little problem with behaving. So, Scar, she said, indicating to the other human, Is trying to solve it. But, so far it isn't working. she told the equine. A smile spread over her face as she pet his neck and returned to Scar's side. She leaned toward Scar's ear so that she wouldn't have to raise her vocals. So, do you think you should chuck him into the pastures with Mimic to wear him out yet? she asked and Scarlett shook her head. They both turned toward each other to debate when to put him into the pastures or to leave him grow bored of making a kerfuffle. Both looked up when they felt a new presence around them, turning to look at the equines El' had just left. Scar rushed to un-clip Dakota's lead rope, shutting him up instantly.
Scar stood with Dakota as El' made the introductions to the boy. Her eyes strayed to his companion, whom was obviously his brother. The boy seemed so shy, which made Scar retreat into her shell also. Scar was a naturally shy person, so keeping out the way was fine by her. Hullo! Sorry we missed your greeting, but Dakota here was having a bit of a tantrum. she beamed. I'm El' she told him, pointing at herself, and that is Scar, hiding behind the noisy intruder. she said. Her eyes were quick to asses both males, no real interest in their looks but found the older looking amusing. She liked the way he held himself with confidence and the way he had no problem speaking to them instantly. A lot like El' herself. Scar, on the other hand, found the boy appealing to the eye. She was glad she wasn't able to blush, otherwise she would be given away instantly. She gave a shy wave to the boy and smiles at the younger. Her feet took her a step closer to Dakota then, burying her face into the soft pelt covering his neck.

Jack ran his hazel eyes over the girls and the mule, finding himself liking El' for her talkative personality, but drawn to Scar for her shy nature. It made him want to protect her, like he protected Wes.
The younger boy nodded to Scar, finding a grin lifting the corner of his mouth. He was suddenly dragged over to his brother by Jack's strong hand and an arm was slung over his shoulder to keep him in place.
"I'm Jack. And though this scrappy little bloke is branded under the name Mason, we all call him Wes. He's a whiz with animals, so if you want any help with your mule, he'll help. Huh, little brother?"
Wes rolled his clear brown eyes and gave his brother the best version of a Tasmanian Devil stare as he could muster. Then he ducked out from under the arm and rubbed a hand on the back of his neck. "Um... Yeah. No problem." He mumbled, shifting his gaze towards his brother's horses.
"Oh, and my two lovelies are Sky and Barrier. Sky's the chestnut, Barrier's the bay." He went over and ruffled Barrier's forelock. "So, we're obviously new. We can go check up on Wes' horses and then come and met you two over here again and get better aqquainted when Dakota here is in better manners."
Wes wanted to growl. He really wanted to go sit in Abby's stall and read right now.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - She could feel eyes tracing her structure and she shifted uncomfortably. She hated people staring. But, she was glad she got a reaction of the other boy. She already liked him. But then her expression turned into one of horror. Mason, or Wes as everyone called him, was being snatched by his brother and then offered to help with Dakota. Scar could see how uncomfortable Wes was and she looked apologetically toward him. No! You don't have to if you don't want to. I can manage with El's help. Please don't do it if you don't want to. she told Wes, knowing he wanted to be alone and doing his own thing. Scar knew that feeling, she had it most days. Scarlett then softened her features. Sorry, excuse me being to snappy, knowing that she didn't really sound snappy but felt bad anyway. I just don't want you to ruin your day helping me with my pain in the buttocks of a mule. she smiled sheepishly to each boy in turn. She then looked to El' for encouragement, who gave her a none to subtle thumbs up. Scar looked down embarrassed, knowing she was being pathetic. She had given a lengthy explanation for something that could just have be "No thank you." Her hand went up to her forehead awkwardly and she retreated back behind Dakota. The mule then decided to play up again, his frame side stepping quickly and the spinning around to look at the pair of equines with their heads swung over the stall doors. Scar's hand twisted awkwardly as he moved, a silent yelp slipping through her lips. She kept her hand at her side, hoping she hadn't given herself away. She didn't want a fuss, she just wanted to be with Dakota right now. Her weight rolled to her left leg and she winced when her hand hit her leg. Dakota, completely un-aware of his mistresses pain, nickered excitedly to the new comers. Scar roller her piercing blue orbs at the daft equine just realized there were others with them.
El' chuckled at Jack offering his younger brother out to help with Dakota. She hadn't really noticed Wes, he was too shy for her liking, even worse than Scar. When she heard the sharp intake of breath from her friend, El' looked around. Her oracles asked if she was okay, but Scar was too busy fussing over the fidgeting Dakota. El' was again disinterested and turned her attention to Mimic, Scar's other horse, who was trying his damnest to unlock his stall door. The short female chuckled and approached him. Well, see you when you get back here then? she asked the boys, her eyes on the cute Appy.

Wes lifted one shoulder in a shrug, then replied with; "I'm always happy to meet any animal. Helping them is a second nature, I guess."
Jack's eyes narrowed as the mule turned and Scar gave a slight gasp of pain. "Hey, you okay in there?" He asked, taking a step closer. Wes came forward and offered his palm to the creature, who sniffed it then allowed him to brush the spikey forelock from his eyes.
The taller aussie ignored El' for a minute, watching Scar with his light hazel gaze, concern swimming through the pools. "You want me to look at it?" He asked softly, like the tone he used with Wes when he'd gotten hurt and tried to hide it.
The fifteen year old looked at El', and said. "Uh... Wanna come meet Sky and Barrier?" He was awkward, as he was with all humans. A blush was slowly starting to tint his cheeks.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Scar recoiled from Jack momentarily, she disliked male company since her father. But nobody knew about that, not even her mother. She kept her hand at her side, her face paling considerably. Her eyes went frantically toward El' who was busy talking to Wes so didn't notice her. Scar looked around and saw no escape except running as fast as she could away, and then Dakota would have a serious hissy fit. Scar finally gave up and offered her painful hand to Jack. Her blue oracles started to water, the pain shooting through it with every movement. Her eyes closed as another round assaulted her, but she was refused to cry. Not in front of company. Dakota, who now seemed to realized he had hurt his mistress turned his broad cranium toward her. His muzzle went to her face, nuzzling into the pale cheeks. Scar's ivories bit down on her lip. She. Would. Not. Cry.
El' looked at Wes, un-fazed by Jack ignoring her and rushing to Scar's aid. Well, I already met Sky when he asked me what was going on with Dakota. He's a beauty. Barrier didn't seem that interested. But, I'd love to meet them formally. she beamed at the shy male. She bounced over to his side, making sure not to make contact. She didn't want to scare him away. Her feet carried her confidently toward the beautiful horses.

Jack gently took the hand and tutted at the girl's pain. His fingers played over the delicate skin gently, trying not to hurt her while looking for a bump that might signal a broken bone.
Finding no abnormalties, he took his hands from hers, a pang in his heart while doing so. "I think it's just sprained." He told her. "You should probably put some ice on it."
Wes stole a glance at his brother and resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Typical Jack was already on the hunt for a girl. Of course, Wes had no intention on finding a suitable partner, as he doubted there was one available that could accept his quiet nature, and sexuality.
He led El' over to Sky and Barrier. Sky immediately lowered his head so that El' could pet him, and the Aussie Stock Horse perked his ears at the younger of the pair of humans. Wes smiled and combed the gelding's forelock with his fingers. "Sky is Jack's brumby. Barrier is his Aussie Stock. They're both trained for working with cattle. My two are over in the other barn." He told El' in his soft Australian accented voice.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Relief ripped through her when he let go of her hand. But, a slight niggle of regret was there too. She found her self giving Jack a bashful smile as she spoke to him. Thank you. I, uh, will do that. she said, and then listened as El' shouted over that she'll take her to get ice after they were done here. Okay! she shouted back, flinching as she rose her voice. Dakota looked at his mistress in surprise, she was rarely loud so it was different for him. She smiled at the dopey expression on his face. So, what brought you and Mason to BRRA? she asked Jack, her eyes on Dakota. It made it easier for her when she wasn't looking at him. She gave a glance through the corner of her eye, but nothing more. Dakota was more interested in the Australian boy. His grey maw was angled out toward him, his large ears pointed toward him. Scar watched him, he didn't really take that much notice in others but he seemed to like Jack. That was a good sign, wasn't it?
El' ruffled the forelock of Sky, glad of his friendly nature. He seemed to be desperate for attention, something El' was happy to give him. As she scratched her nails down his face to itch it for him, she answered Wes's statement. My little pony is in that barn too. And so are Scar's other two equines. she beamed. Mimic, who was fed up of being ignored pushed at El's shoulder. Oh, that's Mimic. El's Appy. His twin is in the other barn with her Akhal-Teke. El' fussed both Sky and Mimic to keep the pair happy.
