A purple halter was clinging to the chestnuts crown, as the lead jingled from the chain and leather. His ears pressed forward Que nickered a greeting to the other horses around the barn, but silence was all that filled the Red Willow barn. The quarter horse had lengthy legs and looked nothing like a real Quarter horse. Though all of the vets that Que had went to agreed that he was purebred Quarter Horse. The girl walked with a strut and her hips swayed slightly with each step and grooming kit in her hand. "Hey Que" She said her voice ringing through the empty barn, her voice was bubbly, peppy even and filled with confidence. She let herself into the stall re-bolted the door once she was inside. The gelding shoved his head against her demanding attention, "I spoil you too much" she laughed. She grabbed a comb working it through his red colored mane. Que snorted as if enjoying himself lowering his head with his eyes half way shutting. "My lazy boy" Adonia said with a smile reaching across her rosy lips. Her brown hair was thrown over her shoulder well kept and perfectly tangle free. A white tank top was perfectly clean on her and her jeans had just a bit of dirt on the bottom of them and her boots just happened to be covered in mud. She ran her fingers through the geldings tangle free mane admiring her beautiful work on him.

( DAMIEN THOMAS )let go, push your daisiesa thousand maybes, a thousand left i'm doneHe slunk silently out the door of the library. He had been hiding out in there since early this morning. Before that, he had been in with Gloria. He hadn't been into his dorm room for two days. He was in a terrible mood, his girlfriend had left without a word and then texted him that it was over. He was broken, and back on the drugs. His frame shook as he made way to Red Willow barn. Neither of his horses were there, but it seemed to be the quietest of the barns. His pale face was tense, his normally lightly colored blue orbs growing steadily darker. He needed to take something, and this barn felt like the right place. He moved toward the area which was more hidden, the hay bales stored inside. It was door less, but nobody would be able to see him. His head gave a dull throb, a reminder about what happened last time he shot up. He still had a bandage on his forehead as the wound seeped sometimes, he refused to go to the hospital to have it stitched. He dropped down awkwardly onto the cold ground, his head shooting pain through his body. He jolted with the attack, his had automatically going to his pocket to pull out the needle. There seemed to be a person inside his mind repeatedly kicking his brain. He gasped painfully, his chest throbbing as he drew in a breath. Again, his head was screaming. He dropped the needle, grasping his head in both hands. He zoned out, trying to muffle the pain. He wasn't aware that he called out, he thought it was in his mind. "MAKE IT STOP!" he shouted, his breathing ragged and a sweat forming on his brow. It was getting way too much, he needed to get clean.

It was peacefully quiet as she combed the mane of the chestnut. Her fingers flowing gently over his skin. He nickered lazily before his head popped up quickly his pointed ears pressing forward curiously. His big eyes seemed to be scanning the stable for signs of others besides his horse companions, which weren't many. Most of the horses were kept in the white Oak barn which was puzzling to Adonia. The Red Willow barn seemed so much quieter, peaceful was just the way she liked to do things. If she could have had both of her horses in the quiet little barn she would have. Que snorted uneasily shaking his head from Adonia's touch which he never would do unless something was wrong. "What's Wrong pretty boy?" she asked stupidly as if the horse would just magically start talking to her. She sighed deeply taking the body brush from the bag and started to go easily over his chestnut colored coat. Adonia was a little worried about Que, he never acted like that especial when he was getting attention. Then something broke through her thoughts before she had time to finish them. A shout that startled her so much the body brush slipped off her finger tips and clattered to the floor. She bent down to pick up as Que snorted alarmed by the sudden noise. Adonia sat the purple body brush down and let herself out of the geldings stall before running down the isle towards where the shouting had came from.
A stall at the end of isle was for nothing but hay and the half door had been removed for easy access. She peeked inside because that's where it sounded like the shouting had came from but what she found was horrifying. If it had been any other situation she would have probably stopped to admire how cute the boy was and how he seemed rather buff. How he was cuter than any of the other students around the academy, at least to her. However, for this situation she didn't have time to think about those kinds of things. Adonia had not noticed the needle lying on the floor just the boy with his head in his hands rocking back and forth as if the pain were the worst thing ever. "SOMEONE HELP!!!" She screamed, her voice seemed so shrill because she was panicking for the boy. Adonia fell to her knees beside him her hand going for his face. What was going threw her mind was unsure she just seemed so worried for this stranger. "Can you tell me whats wrong?" she said her voice quiet while she was close to him on hand on the side of his face the other around his wrist. She looked at the door to the hay stall anxiously. This boy whose name she was unsure of needed help and no one was there to help him but her. Adonia wasn't a nurse she didn't know what the boy needed. Tears were forming on the rims of her eyes she just wanted to help him so bad but she just didn't know how.

( DAMIEN THOMAS )let go, push your daisiesa thousand maybes, a thousand left i'm doneVocals sounded, but they seemed far away. Whoever it was, they were shouting. He groaned, slumping forward with a painful gasp. He reached out to push away the intruder, but grasped her hand instead when another assault hit him. He heard her question and groaned again. My head! It's killing me! he shouted to her, moving his hand from his bandage to show her. It was now blood soaked, the strain of the headache forcing the wound to open slightly. He grasped her hand tightly, his eyes widening as pain ran through every bone in his body. He knew his mind was telling him off for even thinking about taking the drug again. He looked to the girl, feeling bad when he saw her tear stained features. He loosened his grip on her hand, planting both hands at his sides. He clenched his fists the next time pain assaulted him, he reached out for the needle instantly. He looked at the liquid filled object, debating whether to let the "magic" of the drug take effect, or let the pain attack him over and over again. The point of the needle hovered over his skinny arm, ever so slowly lowering toward it. He thinks the better of it, dropping the needle back at his side. His back slumped against the wall, his breathing heavy and plastered in sweat. He was drained of energy, all because of one wound. He needed it checked out, but that wasn't going to happen.

He was groaning as if the pain was too much for him, it broke Adonia's heart not being able to help him. She wished silently that she could take his pain as her own. She was nice like that, always wishing that someone else's pain could be her own. The boy seemed to try to push her away but took her hand instead. His grasp was warm and made electricity bolt throughout her body, she ignored those feelings though she had other things, she couldn't think about the blossoming feelings. His grasp was hard and it took every bit of control not to cry out in pain from his hard grip, she managed though. Adonia watched in wonder as he moved his hand from the bandage across his head, she couldn't help but gasp shockingly. " we need to get you a doctor" She said quietly rubbing her light fingers over his head trying to comfort him the best she could. Adonia watched his as he picked up the needle from the floor, how could she have missed it. She reached for him grabbing it from his grasp, " You don't need this" she hissed keeping it from his grasp. She looked at him concern filling her eyes as well as the salty liquid that was running down her cheeks. She desperately wanted to help the boy but she was unsure of what to do. Adonia didn't want to leave him here alone, she was afraid of what he might do on his own. He slumped against the wall, she ran her fingers through his sweaty hair she didn't know why she did it it just kind of happened. "You need to see a doctor" She said with a concern filling her sweet lyrics. She knew he probably wouldn't let her help him due to the drugs that were starting to consume him.

( DAMIEN THOMAS )let go, push your daisiesa thousand maybes, a thousand left i'm doneHer words were useless to him, he wasn't going to get any help. He felt her fingers dance across her forehead, the motion soothing. As she took the needle away, he made no attempt to take it back. He didn't need it, it would make things worse. But, he craved it. He also knew that in the state he was in, one slip of his object and he could kill himself. He was better taking something when he was calm. Her fingers thread through his dark hair, his oracles closed tiredly. She was comforting to him, Something he hadn't felt in a while. As his throbbing head seemed to retreat into a dull ache, she spoke her first sentence again. His orbs snapped open as he looked at her, his features set. No, I'm not going there. They'll ask questions, They'll take Rachel away. he told her, his lyrics holding an angry undertone. Rachel was his sister, the girl he had been protecting her whole life. The girl he had sometimes failed to keep out of their evil fathers grasps. He closed his eyes in shame at the thoughts. Now, their father knew where they were. He could show up any day, and Damien was getting worse. The more and more he thought of it, the more he craved the drugs. He reached out feebly toward the needle still in the girls hand, his blue oracles holding a tone of determination. His attempts were futile, his body aching too much as his energy drained. His arm dropped lamely at his side, his head turning to face forward again. His blue oracles stared, without a trace of emotion, ahead of him.

She watched him struggle with his pain it broke her heart. Seeing someone in pain was something Adonia couldn't do, it hurt her to much to see other people in pain. Adonia kept her fingers against the boys forehead a motherly look of concern across her face. His hair felt sweaty but she didn't mind she liked the feel of his skin and his hair. Adonia shook the thoughts from his head, no, she couldn't be thinking like that right now. She looked at him the tears falling over the rims of her eyes she used the hand that the needle was in to brush her tears away. He reached for the needle though. "No.... you don't need this" She scolded. She took a cloth out of her back pocket and wrapped the needle in it before slipping it back into her back pocket. "Please let me help you" She said with pleading eyes. She didn't know who Rachel was but she knew for a fact she wouldn't let them take her away. Adonia jumped to the conclusion that Rachel was his girlfriend, though his words didn't make much sense she just sighed. "I'll make sure Rachel will be okay, I promise" There was such truth in her words. Adonia never broke a promise, ever. She would rather die than have her promise be broken.

( DAMIEN THOMAS )let go, push your daisiesa thousand maybes, a thousand left i'm doneHe enjoyed the rhythm as her fingers trailed his forehead. He shook his head once more though when she offered help. He gave a bitter laugh when she said he didn't need the drugs. Oh, I do. They have consumed me now. I won't be able to survive without them. he told her, his vocals 100% sure. It was all that was keeping him alive to help Rachel. When she offered her help again, he declined. No thank you, the more people know the closer he comes to getting us. he said more softly this time, holding a tone of sadness. He turned to flash her a gentle smile. You don't need to protect my sister as well, I'm trying my hardest. I don't want to drag you into something you'll regret. he sighed, his hand placed over hers. I'm so sorry we had to meet on these terms. he told her, finally looking at her properly. He saw how pretty she was, making him turn a little shy. A pinkish tone dusted his cheeks gradually and he finally introduced himself. I'm Damien. Damien Thomas. he told her, withdrawing his hand from over hers. He looked down at his own hands, a hint of regret clouding his features. What if he was to get close to her as well, and she ran off like Sophia had. He wrinkled his nose as the dull ache returned in his head. I'm so sorry for what I put you through today, but you don't have to hang around me if you don't want to. You have your horse to take care of. he told her, his vocals as emotionless as possible. He looked at her blankly, he didn't want to fall for someone again. Or had he already?

Her features were beautiful the soft sunlight that came through the barn doors. Her face looked full of hurt not because he had hurt her but for everything she was trying to piece together from his past. His eyes were filled with everything that had happened to him, though she wasn't quite sure about it she knew that his past couldn't have been that good. "You don't need them," she repeated, " I can help you" She said with a tear trickling down her cheek. His hand slipped over hers and electric jolted through her body but she tried to hide it the best she could. She let out a content sigh but continue letting her fingers roll across his forehead. "It'll be between us, please let me help you" Her voice cracked on the last word making her sound like she was sobbing even though tears were rolling down her cheeks. A cute girl smile crawled across her lips as she hiccuped for no apparent reason, " it's fine, I'm Adonia Mitchell, it's great to meet you Damien" his name rolled off her lips as if it was such a privilege to be saying his name. He withdrew his hand from hers which saddened her slightly but it wasn't her place to do anything about it. "My horses can wait for right now, they're spoiled as it is, you need me more right now" Her voice was soft and caressing.

( DAMIEN THOMAS )let go, push your daisiesa thousand maybes, a thousand left i'm doneHis face became set with anger, his frame becoming rigid. Why wouldn't she give up on him? Usually people took one look at him and left, but she was so insistent. He felt bad that she was crying, he wanted to reach out and comfort her, yet he couldn't bring himself to. No, you won't be able to help me. he told her, his vocals wavering though. The more she asked, the closer he got to spilling out his guts to her. Tears began to form in his own eyes, his lips cracking a smile as she mentioned her horses. She was already putting him first, it worried him. If I do tell you, you will keep it to your self? he asked hesitantly. As he asked the question though, he already knew he was going to tell her. He sucked in a deep breath and began to tell her what was wrong. Rachel and I haven't had the greatest lives, well probably some of the worst. Our mother was an alcoholic drug addict, our father was a bully as well as a pedophile. He attacked me daily, leaving bruise, wound and mental scars all over me. One day a teacher noticed how thin I was, the bruising and swelling on my face, and reported me to the social services. I spent one year in foster care. Tears began to swell over his eye lids as he spoke, he pulled in another shaky breath. Then Rachel was born, they fought to have back under their care. Why? So I can look after my baby sister. Beatings became my life again, and Rachel was also introduced to them. But, she suffered worse than me. My father raped her daily, he kept her locked up in a dirty, dank room with just a chair and a table. His oracles grew haunted as he thought of the room, the amount of times he had tried to break into it. I used to throw myself at the door to try and save her, bare her childish screams that broke my heart. At fifteen, I tried to commit suicide. Rachel was the only thing that got me through it. Then again when I turned seventeen, but I ended up in hospital when Rachel and my grandmother found me. He was looking at Adonia now, but not seeing her. He was now playing his last scene in his childhood house.
His fingers strummed on his thigh as he spoke again. My last memory in that house was the worst thing I will ever encounter. I cannot erase that memory no matter how hard I try. I finally broke down the door to my sister's cell, seeing my father looming over her. I was already hooked on the drugs by then, so without the adrenaline coursing through my body, I would never have been able to throw him off her. He was startled, but soon regained his balance. He stabbed my arm, dragging a rusty knife down my arm. he showed her the scar running from his wrist to his elbow. I scrambled up and scooped up Rachel, leaving the house for good. Tears were down falling from his face, dripping onto the cold floor. I've been deemed mentally unstable, Adonia. Yet, I feel as if that's just what they tell me to make me feel better. It doesn't, but they can class me as something. Really, I'm just damaged goods that nobody want's to put up with. He looked down at the floor, murmuring one last sentence to her. He knows where we are now, he's going to come and get us soon, I can feel it.
