His hand ran through his almost black hair lazily, his eyes bleary with sleep as he strode into the barn. No, it wasn't early, but after the long day of travelling yesterday, he felt as if he could sleep for ever. Never loan the jet lag. Behind him trailed three largely set canines. Flora, the Giant Schnauzer, Doc, the Irish Wolfhound, and Yuki, the St Bernard. The two females had their damp nose stuck to the ground, The Irish wolfhound had trotted forward to walk aside his owner. Hayden smiled at the shaggy furred canine, but then directed his attention to the agitated whinny that could only belong to his mare. Star is off already, Doc. he told his companion. His Kathiawari gelding was undoubtedly winding up his APH mare, nipping at her ears or whinnying loudly into her face. Hayden picked up his pace, darting around the corner to see Rhian with her audit's pinned and her ivories bared. She then perked her ears when she realized Hayden was there, and snorted happily when she saw the three dogs. Yuki threw herself toward Rhian's stall door, her furry frame lifting up so her large paws were placed on the top of the stall door. Any other horse would have thrown a fit if a large St Bernard face appeared in yours, but Rhian just pressed her muzzle into the soft fur on Yuki's cranium, snuffling the fur gently. Yuki was panting happily, and Hayden knew the pair wouldn't get into trouble. His attention turned to Star, who was now looking dejected at the fact Rhian now had better things to do. Hayden chuckled at the gelding's expression and took a few steps toward the Kathiawari, who immediately pressed his dome into Hayden's chest. His owner smiled, scratching the area between his oddly shaped audits. The gelding gave a contented sigh. You wan't your food now? he asked, causing the equine to pull his head up. The pink lips of his paw pulled back, showing his master his ivories in a horsey grin. Hayden laughed, ruffling his forelock and then opening his stall to collect the bucket.
After he got Yuki to get from the stall door, he collected Rhian's bucket and went is search for the feed room. He found it easily, Doc had decided to come with him as Flora and Yuki were still with Rhian. The human began to fill up the buckets and his mind strayed to the brother he knew lived at the academy. Just then, two people passed chatting about someone named "Jay". He knew that they would mean his brother, he listened eagerly. Did you hear that Jay bought two new horses, They are in this barn now. It'll be better for him, at least he'll be in the same barn as Spencer now, as well. Hayden wondered who Spencer was, his mind searching for possibilities. When he didn't come to a conclusion, he left the feed room with the buckets. He was soon back at his horses stalls, grinning at a few people who passed who offered him a welcome or a friendly smile. Many had stopped to pet Doc, and then moved on. Star had his chest pressed against the stall door, trying to reach his feet bucket eagerly. Wait. he scolded, moving Flora out of the way of the stall door. He placed the bucket onto the ground and Star immediately dove his cranium into it. He placed the other bucket in Rhian's stall. As they ate, he placed himself onto the cool ground, leaning against the bit of wall between his two equine's stalls. Flora placed herself beside him and Doc took it upon himself to lay over his legs. Yuki had planted herself firmly in front of Rhian's door. Hayden's hands were playing with the black ears of Flora, his mind back onto his brother. All he could hear was the movements of horses jaws and the soft snorts and movements coming from other equines around him.

Melissa snuck into the barn, Sparks padding by her side, panting softly. The fourteen year old blond was currently thinking of herself as a spy, her lean frame shifting through the shadows that didn't exist in the barns corners as one shift's through the entating pages of a book.
Her current mission was to sneak in and see Smacks. Jay had forbidden her presence in the gelding's range though, but she couldn't understand why. And her loyal instincts fought with her disobediance, and while she fought with herself internally, she made her way to the second horse who'd had a throwing of a rider in which she was somewhat involved: Flyte.
The big chesnut colt nickered at her loudly, blowing at her with a huge heave of air. She chuckled softly, and spoke to him with soft English tones tainting her vocals delicately. "Hey there, good chap. How does the morning find you?" She reached up and fondled his forelock lovingly, and he lowered his head and press his forehead against her shoulder, begging for more.
She obliged, then decided to do Spencer a favor. He would be here in about fifteen to twenty minutes, and in that time she might be able to have Flyte and Crowley groom. Taking the younger horse's lead from the stall, she clipped the head collar onto his face and attached the rope. Then, she swung open the stall door to let him out, and led him over to the grooming part of the stables.
Then, Melissa walked over to the feed room, quickly filling the cups that would hold the feed of the other three gelding's until she transferred it to their buckets. She suddenly her excited whines from Sparks and the sound of his tail whipping the air. Melissa looked at him and then at what he was looking at. It was a few other dogs, apperantly with a boy who was much older than herself. She looked at the dalmatian again, and told him, "Yes, Sparks, those are other dogs. Good job." She then awkwardly moved away, trying to keep the unsteady third cup balanced.

Three sets of audits perked as they heard the whine of a fellow canine. Yuki, who watched the dalmatian trot by with his blonde haired master, returned his whine and shuffled to the side. Hayden looked at her, his oracles telling her not to move an inch. She dropped her head, slowly letting the rest of her body tumble toward the ground. She stretched out and placed her head then onto her large paws. Doc picked himself from Hayden's leg when his master made a move to get up. Rhian was still munching on her feet, but the greedy gelding next to her had finished. Okay, okay. I'll groom you now. he told the nickering Kathiawari, scrambling to get onto his feet. He picked up the green head collar sat outside the stall, undoubtedly pushed from the wall by the gelding. Star allowed his owner to place the head collar onto his head, and let him lead him out to tie on the metal rack attached to the wall of the stall. The gelding watched as Hayden gathered up the grooming kit, and beginning to run the curry comb over the red dun coat of his bodice.
Hayden had to keep looking over his shoulder at Yuki and Flora. Doc had planted himself by Star's cranium, enjoying the feeling of the geldings maw in his shaggy coat. The two female canines kept edging closer and closer toward the blonde girl with the dalmatian, only stopping when Hayden glared at them. The pair had their eyes on their master as he made his way around the other side of the horse. They took this as their break. The pair darted from their lying positions, making their way to the Dalmatian. Yuki's whole bodice shook as her tail wagged furiously, Flora gave little yips of excitement as they grew closer and closer to the dog. Hayden cursed, dropping the brush in his hand and running after the pair. Doc watched the three with a look that could be classed as embarrassment, his head dropping in a shameful manner. Hey! You two stop! he called in his thickly accented vocals. The Australian zeroed in on the pair quickly, making a dive for the more sturdier Yuki. He grasped her collar and pulled her back, but missed Flora who was now trying to make friends with the spotted canine. I'm so, so sorry! he apologized profusely to the girl, finally grabbing Flora's collar. Both dogs sat to their haunches, panting happily. Hayden sighed, but then began to chuckle. They looked so proud of themselves for making a new friend. He glanced behind him when he heard the light sound of claws hitting the stone floor, Doc had decided to come over as well. The wolfhound took a more reserved approach at introducing himself to the spotted canine. His head tipped in a sort of bow cross nod. Hayden wondered if Doc was more human than himself sometimes. I don't suppose you'll hold this meeting against me, will you? he asked, humor laced in his words. He smiled easily at the girl, his head nodding to her. I'm Hayden. Hayden Emeritz. I would shake your hand, but mine are kinda full. he laughed, nodding at his two hands holding his canines collars.

Melissa was quick to dump the proper feed into each horse's stall, setting the cups down on an overturned bucket outside of the current trio's stalls. Then, with a smile at the three dogs, and a nod to their master, she turned back to Flyte. The chestnut nickered at Sparks, perking his ears and lowering his face to the dog.
The curry sweeped over the gelding's flanks as Melissa guided it over his sleek coat. He brought his head up and turned to look at her, nodding his cranium slightly in appreciation. She gave a slight cuckle, then her eyes found the boy who owned the three canines leading over a chestnut gelding with curious ears. A Kathiawari, she mused, watching the big horse with a genlte gaze.
She turned her thoughts back to Flyte, and peace reigned for a few minutes, before suddenly the St. Bernard and Giant Schnauzer dogs were trying to make friends with Sparks. The yearling dalmation was a bit overwhelmed by the huge animals, and ran behind Melissa's leg, his blue eyes wide. Melissa looked at him, then the dogs and their master, and grinned.
"Of course not, why would I hold you against the fact that your dogs are friendly? Sparks is only a little nervous around things bigger than he that aren't horses or humans, which is why he is sometimes a bit failing at being a Bandersnatch hunter. But, it is lovely to meet you, Sir Emeritz. I am Melissa Whitcombe, though any nickname will do. The shy one is Sparks and the big guy is Flyte."
The horse himself was trying to reach his nose out to the dogs, his tail flicking back and forth with sudden excitement. "And, just so that you don't make assumptions, no, Flyte's not mine, but don't tell his owner I groomed him; it's a surprise." She winked and smiled, patting the gelding's muscular shoulder fondly.

Hayden laughed at the girls words, picking up on the reference to the character in Alice and Wonderland. I'm sure Doc here, and maybe even Yuki, he said, indicating to both the wolfhound and St Bernard, Would be excellent Bandersnatch hunters. Flora on the other hand, just wouldn't have the concentration. he chuckled, releasing both of the canine's collars. Yuki immediately picked herself up to greet the horse, pressing her damp muzzle against the horses. Hayden rolled his eyes, but he was glad the gelding was good with canines. Yuki didn't really believe any horses would hate her, especially with Rhian fussing over her all the time. It is also lovely to meet you too, Miss Whitcombe. You have met my dogs, and those two up there are Star, the Kathaiwari, and Rhian the paint. he gestured behind him to the two equines, both looking interestedly in their direction.
He smiled at her, nodding as he agreed to keep her secret. Your secret is safe with me, but do you mind me asking if you have your own horse to attend to? His vocals were polite, interest marring them. Hayden was a people person, always wanting to know what people are up to and how they were feeling. Melissa gave off the vibe friendly, a more open book than some. An idea struck him them, he wondered if the girl knew where his brother would be. Hey, you don't know a Jamie Robinson, do you? Goes by Jay? he asked, knowing it was a long shot. He was yet to see life of his brother, and had already asked a couple of people if they had seen him. Many had shrugged, some had offered guesses which he followed up and found nothing. His features were filled with hope that the girl knew where his brother was.

She chuckled through his words, nodding off and on, then began to answer his questions as Sparks and the other animals got to know one another. "I do, an Arabian whose known as Shamrock in the ring and Sham outside of it. She's in the other barn, and as I've already cared for her, I decided to help Spencer with his horses."
Hayden's next question surprised Melissa, and she looked at Hayden with a cocked eyebrow. "Yes, I know Jay. If you've already gotten on his bad side, then I can try to right it, but even if he does have a soft spot for me, I'm afraid that it'll take an awful lot of convincing for him to not destroy you." Melissa figured that Hayden had just done something to piss Jay off, and now he was hoping to find someone to help him get on the boy's good side.
She put down the brush as she finished grooming, untying Flyte's lead from the wall, and was turning to take him back to his stall, when she felt a light brush again her leg. Looking down, her gaze was met by the gentle yellow stare of Cheshire. An equally solft smile met her lips as she knelt down and took the cat into her arms. She looked at Hayden. "I'll be right back."
Leading Flyte over, and carrying Cheshire while leaving Sparks to socialize wasn't a particularly hard task. And, Spencer was leaning against the wall by Flyte's door, a smirk on his face. "I thought I'd told you to stop looking after my horses." He told her, raising an eyebrow. Even if they weren't related, the expression was eerily similar to her own. She rolled her eyes. "Well, what else do you want me to do?"
"Your homework. Jay told me your algebra grade was slipping." "It is. Algebra is too close-minded to be logical." "Melissa..." "Fine, fine." She sighed, waving her hand.
Spencer nodded and opened the stall door for her to let his horse in. As he'd put the feed into the bucket for her, Flyte went in without a fuss. He shut the door, then was about to get Crowley when Melissa stopped him.
"Hang on, there's someone I want you to meet first." She took his elbow, stilling hanging onto a purring Cheshire, and took him over to the boy and his gelding. Sparks was nipping playfully at the St. Bernard's shoulder, his ears perked and tail wagging furiously. Melissa smiled at Hayden. "Hayden, this is Spencer." she said, nodding to the tall blond beside her, while gently running her hand down the length of Cheshire's spine.

She had an Arabian, which meant she rode English. But, her English accent also gave that away. There weren't many Western riders in Britain. He nodded, a smile on his features. As she answered his second question, he laughed. So his brother must be a tough cookie, someone feared. That was nothing like Hayden himself. Before he could answer, she was preoccupied with the arrival of a black and white feline. He watched as the girl picked up the cat and then waved her off when she told him she'll be right back. He turned on his heels to go back to Star, Sparks the Dalmatian following him. Well, Yuki.
Hayden busied himself with the knotted mane of his gelding, casting a glance to Yuki and Sparks, who were getting on Royally. Flora had planted herself a little of to the side, her jet black cranium tilted comically as she studied her playing companions. Doc, once again, was sat at Star's head. The boy looked up when he heard the sound of approaching footsteps, and now Melissa was accompanied by a taller, and older, blonde male. Hayden stepped from beside Star, offering his hand to shake with the boy. As Melissa introduced them, Hayden smiled. So you're Spencer? he announced, pieces of the puzzle fitting into place. He then turned to Melissa. To answer why I am in search for Jay, No I haven't offended him, he started and then said quieter, Well not at least yet. His face was smiling as he spoke again, he hoped these two would be able to help him end his search. I'm Jay's brother. He looked at both of them in turn, knowing they wouldn't have a clue Hayden existed. Jay didn't even know himself. He suddenly regretted telling them, knowing he should have just hunted down Jay himself and told him then. His smile fell from his face, and Doc seemed to sense the change in his masters emotions. The wolfhound trotted to his side, pressing his muzzle into Hayden's leg. Hayden played with the canines ears as his eyes studied the ground nervously.

Spencer blinked at Hayden, then peered at him cautiously. "Jay never told me anything about a brother." He said, then looked at Melissa. "Are you pulling a joke or something 'Liss?"
The girl looked back at him and shook her head, then her mutlihued gaze was resting on Hayden once more. She gently put Cheshire down, never breaking eye contact, then walked to Hayden.
She watched him, then ran her sight down his frame. She seemed to be taking notes in her head, for every once in a while, she seemed to nod to herself, her lips moving silently. She even circled Hayden, then paused to look at Spencer.
"He has to be Jay's brother. Look at the shape of his irises and the way his cheekbones are angled. His eyebrows hold the same arch and the way his chen draws up toward the ear matches Jay's." She murmured quietly, watching the older boy with a slight wariness, her calculating orbs seeming to wait for an explanation or some form of speech from Hayden.
Spencer watch Melissa moved around the eighteen year old, shifting his feet as he did so. Melissa was almost never worng about details - she had a knack for them. But he feared what she would say. Then, she stopped her vulture-like orbiting, and turned to him. His stomach tightened in apprehension.
Melissa listed those small, minor details no one would have noticed, and a hand went up to rub the back of his neck. Most people would look for confirmation of such a claim, but Melissa was his safest bet that this Hayden figure was Jay's brother, and not just some trick. The blond boy looked back at Hayden, then at Melissa. The fourteen year old had to know that she couldn't break this news to the school without Jay's permission... But he quickly remembered that Melissa rarely required being told what to do and what not to do. She had logic and sense with a flair for the extravagent, which made her sensitive to unspoken rules. So instead, Spencer merely blew out a sigh and looked over at the pair uncertainly, almost like he expected Melissa to have one of her randomly spontaneous ideas.

Hayden looked up as Spencer spoke, his expression growing ten times more nervous. He wouldn't have told you, He has no idea that I exist. he told the male hesitantly. His oracles followed Melissa as she circled him, obviously evaluating him to see if he was lying. Of course, he could be. How easy would it be to make up a story like his? But, he wasn't. Hayden wasn't like that, he would never, ever do this to someone on purpose. Melissa then stopped, the both of them seeming to believe him. A small smile appeared back on his face, and he decided to tell them how he turned out to be Jay's brother. I was the result of an affair Jay's father had with my mother. I have known about Jay for most of my life. I rarely saw my father, as he was always with Jay and his mother. I was born the year before my brother. he started, his dark oracles moving from each of their faces. Only now has my mother let me come in search for Jay, she hasn't wanted me to mix with him. I've longed to meet him, and finally I am in the same school as him. His features pulled into a broader smile. Obviously these two were close with his brother, otherwise they wouldn't have studied him so closely. They wouldn't have been so affected by Hayden's revelation.
Is there any way you can take me to him? he pleaded. He focused his attention more on Melissa, Spencer sort of intimidated him. He pulled the rim of his shirt excitedly, he couldn't wait to see Jay. But, what if Jay didn't accept him. Apparently, according to Melissa's first guess why Hayden was in search of Jay, Jay was feared in school. He transfered his weight, his features returning to uncertainty. He some how doubted that his arrival would be good news for Jay, knowing his father would have been unfaithful. He would have undoubtedly looked up to his father. Hayden never did, he had his grandfather for that job. He was his role model. Hayden took a step back, nervous once more. He looked at each of his company in turn, wondering what their reactions would be.
