It was noon on the campus on that sunny saturday afternoon and Lucie walked down the aisle towards her mare's stable. She hadn't had the chance to talk to any of the other students since she had only been here since yesterday but that didn't matter, all that mattered at this moment was her and her horse. Inside stood a very happy looking 3 yr old who was just beginning to be worked in. ''Hey Dolly Babes'' Lucie said as she slowly let herself in giving the mare a pat. ''Were going to do some work today little miss so come on'' she said as she led the mare towards the cross ties. Once Dolly was dressed in her lunging gear and GP saddle Lucie started to lead the her towards the round pen.
The bright bay mare stood in the middle of the round pen as her owner stroked her. ''Good Girl Doll now lets do some work''. Within seconds Lucie has Dolly trotting in a circle around her on the lunge line...

"Stop being a twit." Philip Grey rolled his eyes at his horse as the chestnut danced around, ears pricking after every sound and head twitching every-which-way as Doodle tried to take in absolutely everything about his new home, because it was just that exciting! Oh, and scary, too, as evidenced by the way the thoroughbred shied sideways away from another horse poking their head out over their stable door. "It's a horse - y'know, you've seen them before?"
Glad that he'd made the decision to lunge his horse today, as it was obvious he wasn't going to get any sense out of the animal, Philip led the bay towards the round pen. It was, he supposed, only to be expected that Doodle was going to be an idiot for a while. It was a whole new place, after all, and he wasn't the sanest horse around even at the best of times, liking to take offense at absolutely anything, and finding it hard to realise that he wasn't a racehorse any more, and therefore didn't have to do everything at top speed.
Upon reaching the round pen, however (after a few exciting moments as Doodle spooked away from things), Philip discovered that there already was someone lunging in there; a student, by the looks of it, and a young horse. He noted with some amusement that the mare seemed to be trotting around in a far saner manner than Doodle would be.
"She looks nice," he called out, after a moment of observing her work, wondering if it would be worth his while to wait for the pen to be free, or if he'd be better finding somewhere else to lunge. He also didn't want to put wither horse or lunger off their work, so... He dithered, while Doodle, for his part, seemed utterly taken with the horse trotting inside the arena, staring at her as if he'd never seen such an animal before.

The wind clipped Lucie's hair as she continued to walk with the mare as she trotted round in a circle. "She looks nice," she heard someone call out from the sidelines. Lucie looked over to see who that voice belonged to and she saw one of the history teachers standing there with his horse. ''Thank you sir, your welcome to come and lunge your horse in here with me if you like?'' she asked the man whilst at the same time keeping and eye on her horse as the mare trotted around her.

"That would be much appreciated," Philip answered as he tried to recall the girl's name. He knew she'd been in some of his classes, but his memory for names was patchy, and - ah-hah! Lucie, that was it. Lucie whose-last-name-he-couldn't-remember, but a first name was more use, anyway. Fairly casual with his students inside his classroom, Philip had an even more relaxed policy when he met them with horses, outside of his subject. There, he figured, they were all just people working away with their horses.
"Thanks, Lucie," he said as he let himself into the arena. "I need to lunge this guy today if I'm ever going to get any sense out of him." Doodle took this moment to prove his point, leaping a pace sideways as his eye caught the movement of a bird's shadow on the soft ground surface of the round pen. Philip rolled his eyes as he gathered his horse back in again, then led the chestnut around Lucie and her mare, setting himself up where he hoped he wouldn't get in her way.
"If he starts spooking your girl, I'll take him back out again. Wouldn't want to put you two off your stride," he said as he began to push Doodle out onto a larger circle, gently, with the lunge whip. Doodle took off in a high, floating trot, and managed that for about half a circle before he broke into an excited canter, head held high and tail kinked up, the horse looking like he was attempting to show everyone that he wasn't in fact a gelding.
The presence of the other horse, though, did seem to be restraining some of his more exuberant tendencies - there was no bucking, for one, as he cantered - do Philip figured he'd just let him run off some of his excess energy. And if he wanted to do that by spurting around in a circle at a fast canter... well, fine.
