Averie hummed quietly to herself and her mount as she entered the arena, looking around quickly to take in the surroundings of the arena. There were a few riders already riding in the arena, and Averie called out to them loudly. "Gate!" Swinging open the door to the arena, she proceeded through, leading a deep bay colored gelding. The gelding pranced anxiously at the end of the reins, pricking his ears forward and looking around anxiously. Averie shut the door quickly, and turned, patting his solid neck firmly. She was a rather tall female, but the horse still towered over her magnificently.
Leading him to the middle of the arena, she halted the gelding, and held tightly onto the reins, beginning to pull down the stirrups. Before she pulled down the first stirrup, she tightened the girth once more, then pulled down the stirrups. She quickly ran her fingers through her dark colored hair and pulled it back into a long ponytail. Once she was satisfied, she unclipped the helmet from the gelding's saddle and placed it upon her head, buckling it up.
Taking a hold of the reins firmly, she led him over to the mounting block and halted him beside it. She could normally mount him from the ground, but she did not want him taking off in the new surroundings. Placing her foot in the stirrup, she launched herself into the saddle and settled quietly onto the gelding's back. "Easy Comet, easy boy.. She quickly gathered her reins and stirrups, and nudged him quickly out to the outside.
Courageous Comet, or Comet, pranced eagerly along the outside of the arena and Averie let him walk for a few laps, letting him adjust to the new surroundings. Once the huge 17.2 hand high gelding had completed four laps at a steady walk, she nudged him softly again and clucked, asking him for a solid trot. Comet picked up a steady trot, arching his neck and picking his feet up springily. Averie smiled and patted his neck, before posting to his trot, looking around. She was anxious to meet new people. |

Almost as an afterthought. The sunlight was something to get used to. The town she had lived in all her life was in an almost cover of the clouds. All the time. She still needed to get used to wearing short sleeves and shorts. It was to hot to wear anything else. Yet she had two horses that needed to be worked and Bella knew that the longer they waite, the worse their energy levels would be. Star would be crazy enough without exercise, but she didn't want to work her mare just yet. Pan was the calm one. And it was for him that Bella wanted to ride. She fetched him from his paddock, and popped him his stall, before fetching his tack. Everything had it's place in the Academy. It's too clean was one of her first thoughts when she arrived. Bella whistled one her favourite tunes, and Pan pricked his ears forward when he caught the tune. Yes my boy. We working today she patted his neck fondly. Tacking up was a breeze and Bella enjoyed the ease with which she could work with Pan. She led him to the outdoor arena, where there were a few people already. Samson followed close behind. The Golden Retriever flopped down outside the arena railing and panted, trying to escape the heat of the day. Gate! she called to alert the riders in the arena. Averie heard the girl call out when she was about to enter the arena. She turned her head quickly to look over at the rider and spotted a girl wearing all black and leading a horse towards the arena. Averie thought it was way too hot to be wearing all black, but who was she to judge? Unfortunately, she took her focus away from her mount for too long and Comet noticed. When she turned her head back, Comet had his ears back and sprinted into a quick canter. Averie was thrown forward slightly, but gathered herself quickly and sat back, seesawing the reins from the big gelding. Comet threw his head back in disagreement and continued to sprint quickly, sweat pouring onto his already dark coat. Averie kept sitting back and asked him for a large circle when they reached the end of the arena.
She was able to muscle him into a circle, then another, then another. Each one was smaller and smaller as she slowly gained control over Comet. After about four circles, he had descended into a quick walk and Averie allowed him to relax, letting her reins run a little bit longer. She looked over at the rider again, knowing it was not her fault he freaked, he was just young and needed work. Averie leaned forward, patting his neck and pointed him towards the outside again, allowing him to walk. |

It was one of those situations that made Bella grateful that she was riding Pan, and not Star. Star would've joined in the mad rush, and then Bella was most likely to be flushed with embarrassment rather than just being hot. Pan took everything in his stride, and allowed Bella to open the gate from his back. He cast a lazy eye over the surroundings. She rode up to the rider, and Bella wondered what she was going to say. Averie quickly collected Comet after his little fit, and shortened her reins when the other rider came closer to them. Comet lifted his head uneasily and flickered his ears, and Averie wiggled her fingers on the reins. "Easy Comet.. you had your fun today.." Comet dropped his head again, and continued to walk around the arena, amazingly oblivious to the other horse and rider.
Averie looked over at the other girl, shooting her a quick smile. "Yeah, we're okay. He just had a mini-freak out when you guys came in. It was my fault though, he's young and needs attention all the time, and I turned to look at who was coming in. He's good now though." She paused, smiling before continuing "I'm Averie by the way.." |

Bella gave a relieved smile, and introduced herself. I'm Annabelle, but please call me Bella. Bella gave the girl another smile, and moved Pan off. He was known to bite strange horses, and Bella wanted to prevent that. Somehow Pan had already caused enough trouble in the arena.
Bella made sure that her reins weren't gripped too tight. She had a habit of doing that if she felt stressed or worried.

Averie nodded and watched as the girl who introduced herself as Bella moved her horse off. "It's nice to meet you Bella!", she called out to the girl and turned her attention back towards her mount. Comet was chewing on the bit eagerly, and she collected him quickly. Looking around to make sure she wasn't in anyone's way, she nudged him gently and asked for a solid trot. The Irish Sport Horse's strides were long and fluid, and easily brought them around the arena twice. Comet's ears were flickering back and forth, and Averie knew he was anxious to do more.
She let him trot around the arena once more, before pointing him towards the line of fences she spotted when they first entered. He was excited, and broke into a canter, and Averie allowed him to approach the jumps at the pace. They approached the first jump and right before take off, Averie clucked to him softly, and Comet raised his legs, folding them neatly. She sat back quickly, and collected him again, making him take four even strides rather than rushing the next fence. He cleared the oxer easily, and Averie sat back, pulling him down into a trot and patted his neck enthusiastically.
