Stevie wasn't herself. Not at all. Dark thoughts surrounded the young woman as she stepped softly out of the night and into the dark stallion barn. No one would find her here at this hour. So Stevie hoped. Her feet already knew the path to her bay stallion Lightning's stall. "Hey boy. What you doing?" The stallion must have been as restless as Stevie was. Lightning pawed the bedding and paced in his stall. "I know boy, we don't exactly belong here do we? No one accepts us for who we are. You because your a stallion and me because I'm..." Stevie didn't know how to finish her sentence. Why didn't the people around Blue Ridge didn't accept her? Was it because of the drama and trouble that had always followed her or was it the fact that she owned a hyper, 'crazy' in most people's eyes, stallion. Lightning only kicked the wall. "Shush. We don't want anyone to wake up now do we?" Stevie tried soothing the young stallion. Lightning only kicked the wall once more. Stevie unbolted the stall door and slipped in. Most people would have tried to calm the horse before they entered the stall but not Stevie. Maybe that's why she didn't fit in. Maybe it was her guts. Stevie only sighed. "Lightning." The stallion pricked his ears at his riders words. She sounded tired and sad, miserable. Stevie tried to relax. She took several deep breathes then laid a hand on Lightning's shoulder. The bay stallion reacted as if it had been an electric shock. That was it Stevie couldn't take it any longer. She collapsed in a corner of Lightning's stall, crying uncontrollably, almost for no reason, almost for every reason like a string had just snapped. Sobs echoed on the barn walls, silence in the night was broken.

Dafydd pulled on his shoes slowly, calling Icey to his side as he rose from the bed. He was off to check on Macario. The stallion had had a runny nose for the past couple of days, nothing too serious but Dafydd had kept him in to check on him. Cedar stayed sleeping under the chair to the left of the bed. Dafydd smiled and opened up the door to his room, closing it silently behind himself and Icey. The pair took a leisurely place down to the stallion barn. As they made their way inside, it was empty. Good. Dafydd spotted Macario instantly, his rose-gray cranium hung over his stall door. The stag looked well and truly sorry for himself, and Dafydd decided it was just a summer cold he had caught. If it was worse than that, he wouldn't have the energy to sulk about it. Are we feeling any better, mister? he called out, gaining a snort for greeting. Dafydd knew he wasn't himself though, usually he would get a much more enthusiastic greeting. Dafydd finally reached Macario, running his hand softly down the length of his stag's cranium.
He inspected the Lusitano's muzzle, seeing that snot was still running from it but not as much. It looks like you're on the mend, boy. That's a good sign. he grinned, ruffling the forelock of the stallion. How would you like a little something to eat? You haven't eaten much in a coup- he started, before cutting off when he heard the sobs of a female. He glanced around, trying to locate where it was coming from. He gestured to Icey to follow him, telling Macario he would be back, and set off to find the owner to the sobbing. He passed a line of four stables a couple of times before peering inside one which held a dark bay stallion. In the far corner was sat a woman, whom worked for the academy. He tried to conjure up her name, but it fell flat. Miss? Are you okay? he asked, concern marring his accented vocals. He didn't venture into her stall, not all stallions were as accepting and friendly as Macario. But, he kept his oracles on her, his features pulled into a gentle frown. You're not injured are you? You don't need any help? he asked, his vocals growing more concerned. Her horse hadn't hurt her, had he?

Lightning didn't like his owner to be upset. The bay stallion had stopped circling the stall and was instead standing in the middle of it. Lightning's ears flattened at the sound and smell of a man. Lightning put himself between Stevie and the strange man, ears still flat against his skull and teeth bared. It was kind of strange, Lightning was behaving like a mare with a newborn foal, keeping herself between the foal and an intruder. Finally Lightning decided that the man wasn't much of a threat to his rider and walked over to her. The stallion nibbled her hair and nudged her face.
Crying had made Stevie feel better. It felt as if a small weight had been lifted off of her shoulders. Maybe that's all Stevie needed was a good cry. Sometimes everyone just needs to let it all out. Stevie heard Lightning shuffle over and start playing with her hair. Stevie also heard an unfamiliar voice. "Lightning." Stevie pushed the stallion's head away, giggling. Lightning only brought his head in front of her face and let a long breath. Stevie inhaled the hay scented breath and felt a lot better. She realized even if she didn't fit in with the humans, she would always fit in with the animals, no matter what. "You always make me feel better eh boy?" Stevie rubbed the stallions circular star and played with his black forelock. "Your nothing but a big puppy dog. How could any one not like you? Silly boy." Stevie crooned, standing up. The bay stallion was still unsure what to make of this man. He flattened his ears but uncertainty showed in his dark brown almost black, eyes. "Easy now, he's just trying to help." Stevie whispered. She walked over to the door, Lightning following. Stevie finally addressed the man. "I'm fine, sir, just..." What was she suppose to say? Stevie didn't even know why she was here. Oh well. "I'm Stevie Hark, the new horse trainer and you are?" Stevie finally asked. It was the only thing that she could think of to say.
