It means no worries for the rest of your days It's our problem-free philosophy The lanky teenager entered the library. It wasn't the best place for him to be. Reading took on a whole new meaning when you're a Synesthete. Every word had a different 'flavour'. Each one a different colour, all made for an interesting experience. Yet when there was work to be done, he had to swallow the fear, and enter the halls of learning. This off branch of learning that he had entered had different ways to present itself. He nodded to the librarian on duty and started his search. What he was searching for, even he didn't know. Maybe a Dr.Jekyll/ Mr.Hyde type of book. Or Dracula. Something that really gave him a scare. School was just a schlep, but it was essential. Darren, as he was called, was dressed in jeans, trainers and a shirt. His green orbs scanned the area, not just for books, but for people. How would explain the look of wonder, as the black print appeared like this to him: Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tags: Myssi Lyrics: Hakuna Matata-The Lion King Notes: Musey, I love you

Loralie was huddled deep in the library, her clever eyes scanning the page of the novel in front of her with enthusiasum, the sea shifting orbs alighted with interest. She had tucked herself into a large chair, and a comfortable one at that. Her warm hoodie covered her slender, willow built body in a baggy confinement, and her legs were curled under her like a fawn's, though instead of soft downy fur to cover her long, soccer-toned muscles, she had jeans. Thick glasses covered her soft eyes, and blond locks crowned her elegent head, though they were caught in a ponytail at the back of her head at the moment. Loralie was built like a deer, or a mysterious woodland nymph or elf. She had a wary, shy appearance, a reclusive nature. It was not her way to go up and introduce herself, instead wishing to remain an elusive figure. So, it was no surprise that when a movement caught her eye, she looked up, but her body seemed to fold into itself to make her smaller. She watched the boy with wary eyes, not wishing to meet him in any way, instead prefering to study this handsome newcomer. --- Outfit: Here!Notes: Sorry it sucks. xD Tagged: Onz {We must come up with a nickname for thee!)

It means no worries for the rest of your days It's our problem-free philosophy Darren noticed the small figure huddled in the large chair, but gave a small smile, more to himself than anyone else. He took the edition of Dr Jekyll and Mr.Hyde and settled himself on the couch next to hers. She seemed to be around his age, and he was looking for friendship in this new school. It seemed that they sat in silence for eternity, before Darren sighed. His Synesthesia played a trick on him again. You start a question, and it's like starting a stone. You sit quietly on the top of a hill; and away the stone goes, starting others; and presently some bland old bird (the last you would have thought of) is knocked on the head in his own back garden and the family have to change their name. No, sir, I make it a rule of mine: the more it looks like Queer Street, the less I ask. Some of the letters were blacked out, as it happened sometimes, almost always. So he just had to ask for help, and the only one there was the girl. Sorry for disturbing you. Can you just tell me what that word is? he asked, pointing to the words between the brackets. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Outfit: ClickyLyrics: Hakuna Matata~~The Lion King Tags: Myssi -pokes- Notes: I give you free rein with my nickname, but -pops bubble- Onz is already a nickname. But you can make one up for me.

Loralie looked up at the boy in slight surprise, but gave a quick nod in answer to his question. She shifted her body over to where she sat next to him, her clever oracles scanning the page to where his fingers rested under the words.
"It says, 'the last you would have thought of'." She told him, the soft voice barely drifting into the air. Loralie looked up at Darren once, then moved away a 'safe distance' once more, watching him for a moment before seeming to fold into herself once again and lock her mind and being away from the world for no apparent reason.
Loralie contemplated the boy only a few feet from her silently. He was differant, but no like she was. He seemed more outgoing, more bold. She was timid and shy. Not something most people would give a second glance, nor spare the energy to talk to. But this boy had, and he had gained Loralie's immediate respect for it. Even if it had been brief, he'd still tried... She liked that.

Thanks. You see, I suffer from a neurological disease called Synesthesia. It means that words/letters have different colour. He watched how she shrank back into the armchair. She seemed different to the other girls here, shy and withdrawn yes, but different.
He hoped that he would be able to bring her out of her shell. For Darren, it was a slim hope, but where there was hope...He tried to start the conversation again. Seeing that they were both in the library, he thought that books would be a good choice of subject. What book are you reading? he asked, quietly as possible, so that the librarian wouldn't hear him talking.
The fifteen year-old enjoyed the serenity that the library offered him. It held the whispers of thousands of words, ghosts of the characters that the books held, and images that just wanted to escape the bound pages they were in. He was just glad that there wasn't any music playing, otherwise Darren would really have freaked out the girl. With any music he fell into a trance, and he often didn't know it. Remembering his manners, he quickly introduced himself. I'm Darren Laramie. Nice to meet you...

"Glad I could help." She replied her tone unchanging. He studied her, and though it made her tremble slightly, as though to shake off his gaze, she didn't pay him much mind. "Oh, it's just a Guide to Magical Creatures. I'm afraid I'm a sucker for any kind of fantasy or mythology. And I'm Loralie Castle. It's nice to meet you Darren."
She wasn't a peppy kid in any way, her preferance leaning more towards a quiet, yet inquisitive existance. Of course, growing up in a household with an overdominant brother had prevented Loralie's curiousity from blooming. Instead, she waited and watched, her questions usually solving themselves withen time.
Now her question was simple; Why? She felt an overwhelming urge to ask it, and so with a deep reassuring breath, she looked at Darren with her serious storm-churned sea gaze and uttered; "Why are you bold enough to talk to a wallflower, when no one else will? It's intriging to find someone who has enough heart, that he doesn't mind reaching out to loners. But why do you try? We usually aren't the responsive type, so you'll often fail as to drawing us away from the shadows, and yet you still seem to try."

Darren was taken aback by the question. It was a good question. Why? Why did he reach out to Loralie when no-one else did? He hardly knew the answer himself. I don't know. To be honest, I'm the type of person who will talk to anyone, and I'm willing to make the effort to reach out to people.
It was partly true, but he didn't want to frighten the lass by saying what he truly felt. It would be awkward saying what he wanted to say when he only knew this girl for the best of 15 minutes. I'm also a sucker for anything mythological, but I enjoy my horror stories so much more. Also a few selected biographies or non-fiction, but not much.
With his condition, reading became a pleasure, and he really did lose himself in the colour of the words he read.

"You know, if more people thought that way, it's be a kinder world. But alas, it is not, so we live in a place of lies and distrusting eyes." She blinked. "Have I made it rhyme?"
Loralie could sense him watching her, and she sat under his gaze with a still manner. Most people would have squirmed, but if asked why she didn't, her answer would have been; 'He was watching me, yes. I fail to see why this bothers you.'
At his next words, she gave him her first small smile. "That's another rarity, someone who likes mythology. I thought I was the only one here. I'm inclined to Greek and Eygptian myths at the moment. Do you know them?"

Darren chuckled lightly. Yes, you have. Though I assure, i don't think it was on purpose. He gave her a small smile back. I know my Greek and Roman myths quite well, but I'm a bit iffy on the Egyptian ones.
Darren was a bit of a book worm, though his reading had declined since he came to the Academy. There was just so much to do and so little time to do it. Apart from Mythology, what else do you enjoy reading? For Darren he had already explained what he liked, and he wanted to find out more about Loralie. He had a feeling that they would become friends.

"Fiction is my strongpoint... Books like Wicked, Sherlock Holmes, and Harry Potter. I love to have a good murder mystery on rainy, cold days, and on a cheerful one, a good wizard thriller. Not the most exquisite of tastes, but still delightful reads."
This was the longest converstation Loralie had had at the Academy that hadn't turned out awkward. If fact, Darren seemed to be the only person who didn't feel odd around her, and she rather enjoyed the feeling.
Books were nice, of course, and always wonderous to talk of, but she was here for horses after all. So she dared to venture the question; "What kind of horse do you have?"
Her own pair were two lovelies that could prompt words out of her when no one else could. She loved the geldings with her heart and soul, knowing that she couldn't bear the school world without her sarcastric Tulio and happy-go-lucky Miguel.

People usually found Darren to be weird because of the problem that he had. So he didn't spend a lot of time around people like that, but Loralie was different, she didn't seem weirded out at all by him, I have two Appaloosa's. One filly and a mare. And you?
Talking about his horses' made him realise that he hadn't spent much time with them recently. A wash of guilt came over him, and made a mental to go and visit them soon

"Two geldings, mixed of history and breed. They're called Tulio and Miguel." She told him. Tulio was the troublemaker of her two babies, and Miguel was the sweet, loving one who was way too innocent at times.
"Maybe sometime I could introduce them to you. One's an English horse while the other is Western, so if you can't ride your mare yet, you're perfectly welcome to take one of them out." A light blush colored her cheeks. Why had she said that to him? It was rather odd of her to reach out like that. To make a genuine, selfless offer, well, that was Loralie through and through, but to make it after only just meeting someone? Was she getting a fever or something?

They sound great. I would love to meet them sometime. He flashed her one of his classic smiles. Loralie was really nice, and he was glad that he had met her. the conversation had moved onto horses, and all talk of books had taken a second place. Darren preferred it like that.
We should go for a trail ride sometime. I know Fuzz will like it. Fuzz, dearest Fuzz, she would really enjoy the trail ride. All they had been doing was training, and Darren would need the trail for her to relax some.

"And I'd love to meet your horses sometime. I'm sure they're charming." She glanced at a window and then gave him a sad smile. "I'm afraid it's time to go walk the dog and feed the horses. Hopefully we'll get to do that trail ride. Nzia wefwe!"
She stood, pulled on her hood, tucked her book under her arm and her bag over her shoulder, then with a duck of her covered head, slipped away quietly, leaving him in peace.
As she walked to her dorm to fetch Willie, she mused over Darren. Sweet, kind, and... Perhaps someone she'd developed a crush on?
Who knew. But she did think that no one could like a girl like her. It was, strictly speaking, impossible. she wasn't someone others fell for...
