i believe the world is burning to the groundI GUESS WE'RE GONNA FIND OUT LET'S SEE HOW FAR WE'VE COME Walking into the broodmare Barn Jay pulled his jacket around him tighter and at six o'clock in the morning it was quite cool. He loved the cold weather, when it was hot it was just too hard to do anything for him anyway, and his horse Rico didn't work well in the hot weather either, they got grumpy when they worked together in the heat, Rico pushed and then Jay pushed Rico and they always had to fight each other. So now it was at the point where Jay only worked him in the cool of the mornings or Late in the evenings in Summer time.
But Jay was in this barn for a different reason. HE had recently taken a young foal off a couple of friends and so far the early morning gets up weren't as bad as he thought, the late night feedings and early mornings were easy enough to get used to. And now the foal, the d**n thing, followed him whenever he was around it. He carried in his left hand a bucket with two bottles of milk for Alex ( He had come up with a random name ). He got to the stall the little foal was in and he leaned against the door.
The foal was curled up in the corner shivering slightly as the wind blew from somewhere. Poor little thing, he thought as he opened the door and the foals head perked up. "Hey Alex" He said as he walked to the corner that the foal was curled up in. He sat put the bucket down next to the foal and took out one bottle. The foal was already on his feet and was grabbing at the bottle hungrily. Jay was a little late with the feed this morning, but he hoped the horse wouldn't hold it against him. He tilted the bottle up so the milk filled the teat if the bottle and ran his hand down the foals neck as he drank. "Thirsty this morning, are you?"
Jay stifled a yawn with his free hand and leaned back against the wall as the foal drank. He looked around the stall and wondered where the draft was coming from. He put his hand against the wall and he could feel it was stronger at the point of the join in the wall. "So thats why its cold . . " He aid quietly to the horse and looked at the frothy milk that was building up around the foals mouth. He knew exactly what the foal was going to do when he finished drinking. Wipe it on Jays jeans as alway. "You nearly finished Alex?"

Cara was sitting in the corner of Mirrhi's stall in Evening Primrose barn, the jet-black Hanoverian filly looked at the girl with wide interested eyes. Cara had been in here for the past few hours, watching the filly as she settled down again curled up and drifted off to a peaceful sleep again. The girl rested her head back against the wall of the warm stall and listened to the noises of the mares as they shifted, the anxious sound of a foal when their dam was enveloped by the darkness as the mare moved away for a drink or something to eat.
The young teen heaved a heavy breath and then drew in a sharp breath as she heard another sound, a sound that didn't belong here at this time of the morning, she had checked on all of the pregnant mares and none of them were showing signs of labour so she knew that Mr Cole would be asleep in his bed.
She silently rode to her feet and crept to the door. Her lack of height and dark hair made her able to look out, but the shadows kept her hidden from eyes outside the stall. She watched as a man walked through the barn and entered the stall that occupied a foal that she had spotted during her checks. Her eyebrow arched as the man spoke to the baby as he crossed the stall.
Slipping out of the stall, the teen secured the door behind her as she knew that the Hanoverian would follow her given the chance. She then soundlessly walked down to the stall - many years of gymnastics and dance allowed that - and stopped at the door. She drew in a breath as she looked at the nursing foal, feeling the chill as soon as she put her hands on the top of the door. "Pardon my intrusion, Sir." She said softly in her clipped English accent. "Would he like a blanket?" When she had checked earlier, she had only looked over the door so she hadn't noticed the temperature change and cursed herself for it. "I shall prepare another stall for him while he finishes up." Mirrhi's stall was toasty and warm and she knew that the filly would happily share her foster sister's stall while another one was cleaned out for her.
The girl stood at the door as she waited for the man's reply, although her mind was already busy working out what she needed to do.

i believe the world is burning to the groundI GUESS WE'RE GONNA FIND OUT LET'S SEE HOW FAR WE'VE COME Jay watched the foal as he drank hungrily and he listened for the sound that meant the bottle was getting too low. He knew it would ba bad for the foal if he was allowed to suck air, and he didnt really want to put the young foal through that. He ran his hand down the underisde of Alex's neck and sighed. He hadnt really meant to get attacthed to the baby, but he had. Now he just knew he couldnt bare to sell the thing that his friends had found and given to him since he already had Rico.
He pulled the bottle gently away from the foals mouth and looked up when a voice rang though the quiet Stable. He put the bottle back in the bucket as he listened to the girl. "No worries . . . " He said as he pulled the other bottle out of the bucket and looked at the girl when she started speaking again. He thought about it for a minute and then thought that it was probably the best thing to do, it might not be too cold to him, but he wasnt young and prone to get cold. He nodded his head. "Yeah thanks . . . I think He'd like a blanket." He grinned down at the foal. "This is Alex . . " He looked back up at the gril, who looked like she was probably a student here. "And I'm Jay . . the new swim coach" Even if she was a student, he preffered his students to call him by his first name, he hated being called Mr Hunter.
He felt Alex start to suck his fingers that were just resting byu his side while the other bottle held the milk. He pulled his fingers out of the foals mouth. He wiped them on his dark jeans and promptly put the bottle to the foals mouth and it almost got sucked out of his fingers when he started drinking. He nodded again, not really willing to argue with her about it, he knew the foal couldnt stay in here without catching sick.

Cara nodded. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Sir." She replied. Call him by his first name? Yeah, that would never happen. "I am called Cara." She glanced over her shoulder and saw the head of the young black Hanoverian watching her. "I shall be back." She slipped away from the stall and into the tack room. she opened the cupboard where the blankets were kept and she pulled out a blue and silver blanket. Eying the blanket critically she could tell that it would fit the cute colt without being too big and headed back to the stall. "Here you are, Sir." She said as she placed the blanket over the top of the stall door. "Alex's new stall is across the isle and down four." She bowed her head respectfully as she slipped away again. "Come on beautiful." She said as she placed the halter in Mirrhi's head and led her out of one stall and into the stall next door that housed the young Clydesdale filly. She watched a the sisters greeted each other before they both curled up on the floor and drifted off to sleep. Leaving the stall, she went down to the equipment room and returned to the stall with a wheelbarrow and fork. Heading back to the stall she began to clean the box out. Once it was empty, she swept it out and made sure to spray any parts of the floor that looked like they could be carrying something with disinfectant spray. Next she filled the stall once more with a deep bedding of straw. The rest of the barns used shavings for the stalls, but shavings weren't safe for use in the broodmare barn so they straw in this barn. She stepped back as she surveyed the now very clean stall, free of the filly's water bucket and haynet. She walked back down to the stall Alex was currently housed in. "The stall is ready, Sir."
