ninety-nine red balloons , FLOATING IN THE SUMMER SKY panic bells it's red alert ! Chuck sat in the barn office. His mind was so preoccupied that very little came to his attention. The barn hands avoided him, and tiptoed around him. Apparently he was snapping at everyone, and even the naughtiest of stallions were stepping lightly around him. There were many things that required his attention. Melissa had to know that Max was her cousin. Then there was Summer, the beautiful female that he had introduced himself to. It was hard not think about her. Chuck wasn't looking for a mom for Melissa, but rather someone to keep him company. A few months ago, he wouldn't have been thinking like this, but rather would have wanted a different woman every night.
Then he had discovered his daughter, and his life had changed for the better. He had lived in the depths of his self created hell, and now he was moving out of it. Chuck heard the beep of a new incoming message, and read the email. It was from the main office. A new stallion was arriving, belonging to Summer. He called in a barn hand, and asked them to prepare a stall. He wondered if she were to be accompanying her stallion, but only time would tell.

TAKE A BREATH TAKE IT DEEP CALM YOURSELF HE SAYS TO ME IF YOU PLAY YOU PLAY FOR KEEPS TAKE THE GUN AND COUNT TO THREE • • •& i'm sweating now moving slow no time to think my turn to go AND YOU CAN SEE MY HEART BEATING YOU CAN SEE IT THROUGH MY CHESTShe looked over her shoulder nervously as she darted around the corner toward Brown Orchid barn. Her black shaded locks hung lamely down her back, no make-up graced her beautiful features. In all truth, she hadn't been able to work up the want to make herself look as she liked to, with the arrival of Theo at the academy, she had been on pins. No time had been spared for her. Today though, she should be safe. She had a stallion arriving today, and she knew that Theo wouldn't come near the barns. He had never shared the same enthusiasm as herself for horses. The day he had stumbled upon her in the pastures was pure luck on his behalf. She saw it in a different light. Her silent footfalls brought her to the entrance of the barn, and she then remembered that Chuck was head of it. She bit her lip, forcing herself not to sigh in despair, and pulled to a halt. She didn't step into view of anyone, deciding to wait for the horse to arrive hidden by the side of the barn.
To occupy her racing mind, she decided to think over how she had come across Fable. The Knabstrupper stallion had caught her eye when she had been mindlessly searching through equine ads while at work. Sure, she should have been listening to her partner drone on about something or other, but she just couldn't be bothered. She remembered that she had completely cut him off by squealing in excitement when she had seen the goofy pictures of False Pretenses. Clint had been surprised by her outburst, like he usually was with whatever she did, but she had shooed him away when he had tried to look. As she flicked through other pictures of the beautiful horse, she was already sold. His description made her chuckle, she knew exactly how to handle bossy horses. Digger was a prime example of a Mr. I'm Alpha and you must obey my every want/need. There was still a little battle going on between the pair, but Digger was slowly understanding that life isn't always fair and he cannot get his way all the time. Anyway. Summer had contacted the breeder immediately, and purchased the stallion. It had taken a week, but finally, Fable was on his way to his new home.
The growl of a horse box sounded not so far away, and Summer grinned in excitement, forgetting why she had been fretting earlier. The metal contraption came into view, being towed by a fancy looking truck. The driver looked quite cheery though, and stepped out of his vehicle to greet Summer. "Hello Miss. Holmes. He was a pleasure to travel, and a wonderfully natured horse. I bet you'll fall in love with him in no time." he beamed, but as he had spoken, his oracles had wandered to her chest. Summer rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over it. He then looked up at her, grinning sheepishly. His blotchy red face made her force back a bell of laughter, and she then nodded at the horse box.
"Gonna get him out of there then, and stop staring at my wonderful assets?" she laughed at him as his face darkened once more. Even in her bedraggled, stressed out state, she couldn't look that bad. Well, she looked good enough to pull as short, fat, balding man. Score one to Summer. She watched as the man scurried to the rear of the box, unlocking the large door and lowering it onto the floor. She moved around to catch a glimpse of the horse she had only seen on the computer screen, and she was immediately taken by his beautiful markings. The leopard print had always been a favorite of hers, and she had always wanted a Appaloosa or Knabstrupper to own an equine with the markings. It was right up there with the blue eyes that Digger possessed. "I'll back him, you just not try to stare at my bum as I do so." she grinned in good humor as he squirmed uncomfortably. "Oh, Lighten up. I'm just kidding." She beamed, giving his arm a friendly pat. He let out a breath of relief, which he had obviously been holding in since her first comment.
She entered the box, noting that it was big enough for at least three horses. "You came from a good home, hey boy?" she cooed softly, watching as his audits flickered towards her, obviously interested by her new vocals. She made it around to his face and pet his thick neck gently. "Hey Fable. I'm Summer, I'll be your new pal. I also have Digger, but I'm not going to lie to you, he's not as pleasant and friendly as myself." She told him in all seriousness, then grinned when he nodded his head. She untied his lead rope, and then assured him out of the box. He hesitated when his hind hooves touched the ramp, but with Summers gentle words, he backed swiftly. "Alright good sir, you may go on your merry way. I can handle it from here." She told the driver, waving him off when he offered to stay and offer more help. In all truth, she had no idea what to do next. Maybe see if Chuck was there, to direct her in the right direction towards Fable's stall. She turned to watch the driver climb into his truck and then waved as he started to move. He waved back, returning her bright smile. At least she had made one good impression today.

ninety-nine red balloons , FLOATING IN THE SUMMER SKY panic bells it's red alert ! Chuck sat his desk, his fingers rapping against the hard word in an agitated manner. Everything was arranged neatly, except the few forms and such that he had to fill in. He only wished that his mind was as neat as his office. Everything was a jumble, causing a slight headache. There were no proper thoughts, just small wisps of such. There was nothing to keep him occupied, until he heard the faint sounds of a van pulling up.
Slowly he got up, ran his hand through his hair and laid a hand on the handle. He was wearing tan breeches, long boots and polo shirt. It was his usual work attire, but it was comfortable. His hazel eyes darted across the office again for some unknown reason. He turned the handle and stepped out into the barn. There was a van there, and the driver was taking the opportunity to check out Summer. Somewhere he felt the faint traces of an unknown feeling...Jealousy. He hadn't ever really experienced the symptoms of it, but rather, he took his own few minutes to look at her.
She really was one to keep. Summer was funny and playful, but he also knew her past. He didn't want to hurt her the same way, but he also didn't want to hurt her emotionally. Chuck would rather wait a while to see if she shared his feelings, than become Chuck Bass...player central. What happened in New York would not happen here. It would not. When the truck finally left, Chuck strolled over to the female and her horse. " Hello Summer. Nice stallion you have " he said. It was a gorgeous specimen of horse flesh, and Chuck wondered what the horse's personality was like.
