The evenings were as hot as the days that passed in such a blur. The stars had replaced the bright yellow sun, and a large silver orb hung in the sky. Her father had always told her that the moon would be watching over her, no matter where she was, or who she was with. In a way she felt as if the moon was like her father, always there to comfort her, no matter what happened. The terrain of the paddock was as known to her as the back of her hand. She had spent many nights among the stillness of the night air. The shadowy figure ahead was the horse that lived in these paddocks during the summer months, being contented.

Serena had shed her skirt and leggings for jeans and a t-shirt. Psych ambled over to her in the hopes for a carrot, but soon realised that Serena's pockets were empty, and continued to graze the lush summer grass. Underneath her arm she carried a picnic blanket and found a spot which seemed comfortable enough. She lay down, and watched the stars in their flashing dance with the world.

She was waiting for Jude, though she didn't know if he was going to come or not. Serena needed to tell him the truth before it went to far. He would find out sooner or later that was a guarantee at the Academy. What wasn't a guarantee however was how he would react to it. Hopefully he would, she hoped he would.

Opening the gate to the pasture slowly, Jude watched the horse inside to make sure he did not escape while the gate was open. He slipped through the open gate quickly, and reached over with his long arms, latching it swiftly. The moon cast a peaceful shadow over the contents of the pasture, and Jude could easily spy Serena and her horse, Psych resting contentedly in the pasture. Jude paused slightly, not sure what Serena had wanted to talk about and let his thoughts wander to what it could possibly be. Sighing, he shook his head quickly and decided he would deal with whatever she had to tell him.

He donned his favorite college t-shirt, Harvard of course, and his favorite pair of darkly colored jeans. He felt comfortable enough around Serena that he did not constantly have to dress to impress her. His last girlfriend he felt he had to dress to impress her all the time, and he was relieved he did not feel that way around Serena. In fact, his ex girlfriend was a bit of a mean person. Serena did not appear to be that way, and he was extremely grateful for that.

Striding across the pasture, he approached Serena's blanket quickly. She was laying and appeared to be looking at the stars, and Jude sat down near her, smiling in her direction. "So what's up? And before you start, you should just know that I'm not easily scared away.."

Serena heard the gate open and close. On a night like this she could hear everything around her. Her mind was troubled and she didn't want to let it show. Hey. That's good to hear, as usually guys go fleeing for the hills when I tell them about my past. She threw him a grateful smile for just pitching up in the first place. I don't want you to say anything until I'm done talking. It's hard enough for me to tell someone this, and you have the right to know.

Serena sat up, took a deep breath and closed her eyes. No matter if her eyes were open or closed, the story would still play like a movie in front of her. I had a fairly happy childhood. My parents never fought, or anything like that. When I was 14 my dad fell ill with cancer. He didn't live long, a few months. It destroyed me when he did finally pass on. My life then took a turn for the worst. I fell in with the wrong crowd. It was my way of coping with the loss. She saw it. Her father emaciated during the last days. The funeral. Everything came back to her.

The drugs and the alcohol was a way of processing it for me. I was child who was expected to grow up too quickly. My mother ignored me, she thought it was my fault that dad died. For the best of the next 2 years I was a junkie, I couldn't wait to get my next fix. My grades dropped and I was just a mere specter of my former self. My mother sent me to rehab, and then here. The one thing that actually made sense, and that connected me was Psych. Serena felt her cheeks, and the moisture on them. Underneath her tear filled lashes she looked at Jude, and tried to gouge his reaction. What would he do and say?

Jude sat closely to Serena and listened intently as she poured out her past story to him. He was not sure of what he should say or do, and the thought of running for the hills briefly crossed his mind. However, he had said that things would not easily scare him away, no matter what she said. The things that happened in the past made someone who they were today and either made them a stronger or weaker person for it. "I really, really appreciate you sharing this information with me. Most people would not be this open so soon within meeting new people"

Noticing that Serena was crying while talking, Jude reached over suddenly and attempted to wipe her tears away with a lone finger. He let his fingers trail down her face, letting his hand rest on her cheek gently. "Please don't cry, listen to me, you are too pretty to be crying. I know you are upset but the past is the past, right? Things that happened in the past make you who you are today. It either makes you a stronger or weaker person, and I truly believe you will be a stronger person because of it." He smiled at her, and let his hand rest gently on her cheek.

Serena was surprised by his reaction. Jude was a keeper that was for sure. She had only met one person like this before, and he was back in England, and how she hated him for what he had done to her. Psych had ambled over to the two of them, and was snuffling her hair. She allowed him nuzzle her hands. Jude stroked away her tears, and she gave a choking laugh. Serena lay down again, this time in Jude’s lap, not waiting for his reaction. The stars were bright in the sky, and she was lost in her thoughts again. “My dad always said that he would be among those stars and I would only have to look at them, and know that he was watching over me. I actually have now realised that what he said was so very true.”

Her monologue was cut off again as her thoughts reclaimed her. The burden was lifted off her shoulders and she now knew that Jude was different to the others before him. The tears had ceased and she took Jude’s hand in her own. She wouldn’t push him to tell her of his past, but she was curious. Nothing was the same now, everything had changed. Everything.

Jude looked down at her and smiled when she laid down and settled into his lap. With one hand grasping hers firmly, and the other gently stroking her face and long strands of blond hair, he brought his gaze upwards when she mentioned the sky. "The stars are very beautiful on nights like these. & I'm sure your father is watching over you and will always be with you." He smiled, leaning down to kiss her forehead softly, then sat back up, looking to the stars again. He really had appreciated Serena being so honest with him about her past, and he figured he should probably tell her about his past as well.

Clearing his throat, he began to unravel the story of his life, and not holding anything back. "Well since you decided to be so honest with me, I'm going to tell you the story of my life. I grew up. the only boy surrounded by three sisters, and my father decided that I was going to play every spot imaginable. Football, hockey, baseball, lacrosse.. you name it. They also introduced me to riding, as my sisters did it as well. Well as I got into my teenage years, my interests wavered from every sport to mainly just football and lacrosse. And riding, of course. That's when I met Melissa, the head cheerleader who expected her man to be the star football player. Truth is, I was not a star, but with her help, I became one. She pushed me to become everything she wanted, until I blew out my knee, and she left me for another guy. I had some trouble with pain pills, and then I landed here.." Smiling, he looked down upon at her.

She felt the warm tough of his lips on her forehead and she smiled. Serena listened to his story. It seemed that they had both struggled with the difficult times in life and had met at exactly the moment in time. She didn't know if she should tell him about Jamie, or not. She decided on the latter. It wasn't as if he was going to pitch up at the Academy. He didn't even know that she had left England.

She looked up into Jude's eyes, albeit upside down. It were these moments that Serena wouldn't forget. It was silent, except for the chirping crickets, and the occasional snuffling and snorting of Psych. She drew herself onto her side, leaning on her elbow. The world seemed to stop for those few minutes, as they were looking at each other, not a care between them.

Jude continued to sit in the pasture with Serena, glancing down at her eyes and running a hand down her cheek repeatedly. His blue eyes shone down at her, and he could hear the snuffling of the horse in the pasture and crickets chirping. He looked over to the pasture next to hers, and he could easily spy his three chestnut bodies grouped together in their pasture. Looking back over at her, he locked eyes with her again and watched as she rested herself onto her elbow, still looking at him. He smiled at her quickly, then laid down on hios back, looking up towards the stars.

Those blue eyes of Serena held so much trust. She couldn't believe how lucky she was. This moment in time would just freeze and ingrain itself in her memory. There was no need to talk. Words could either make or break a moment, and the fragile world would be broken would they talk.

She didn't know what to do next. Jude lay down, and she joined him, snuggling into the crook of his arm. There was a slight breeze blowing now. Cool and refreshing, but it still gave Serena goosebumps. Thank you, she whispered. It seemed the most natural thing to say at that point in time. What for she didn't know.

Jude continued to lay on his back, looking up towards the stars and thinking how perfectly content he now was. Just laying in a horse's pasture and being in the company of a beautiful, amazing girl. Words had failed them both, and he did not mind in the least. The silence felt natural and comforting, and he thought about how he could of wind up here. Melissa had taken everything he had from him, and then just ditched him once he blew out his knee, and he was certain he was not going to get involved so quickly again. However, that was before Serena had approached him and now everything was different. She trusted him not to say a word about her past to anyone else, and he trusted her as well.

When Serena moved closer to him, and laid next to him, Jude reached out an arm and wrapped it around her waist, pulling her closer to him. "Thank you for being so honest with me. I really appreciate it. & thank you for listening to my past as well and accepting it" He whispered those words to her, and then let his blue eyes wander over in her direction, cracking a smile

Serena merely nodded at his words. It was so true in so many ways. It was one of those things, and she hoped that her mother would understand. What was she thinking? Her mother would totally freak out when/if Serena told her. It was a horrible truth, but her mother was her mother.

Serena had fallen head over heels for Jude, and she didn't know what had happened to her the last few weeks. Without stopping to gouge Jude's reaction, she leaned in, closed her eyes, and seeked the warmth of his lips. She drew back, and for the first time wondered if this was the right thing. Jude, I love you Would he take the initiative this time?

Jude continued to lay there in the pasture with her, his arm firmly wrapped around her waist and looked up towards the night sky. Serena was definitely the girl he needed in his life after that fiasco with his latest girlfriend. He heard Serena say those words, and a million different things flooded through his mind at once. The last time he had said them to someone other than his family, was the latest girl he was hanging out with, and she rejected him.

Of course, he had said those words first, and he was completely unaware of how she was feeling. Apparently that girl was not into him, and he left heartbroken and alone. Could he begin to trust another girl in that way again? Now he knew how Serena felt, and she was the one expressing herself first. Suddenly realizing she was probably waiting for a response, he sat up slightly, rested his hand on the other side of her, and leaned down, looking straight down into her eyes.

Looking down at her eyes, he smiled and answered her response with authenticity. "Serena, I most definitely love you." Leaning down, he pressed his lips against hers, and kissed her. He had said those words before to other girls, and was unsure if he meant it or not, but this time, he was sure.

Serena was over the moon to hear those three words. It was right and she knew it. When he kissed her, it all felt so right. She responded by kissing him back. She enjoyed the heat between their bodies, the sweet taste of Jude. It was perfect. This moment in time, Jude. Just everything in general.

What would happen when she went back to England for the holidays? Maybe she could convince her mother to winter here, instead of England. It was going to be a complete blow out once her mother met Jude.

Jude continued to kiss her softly, then more fiercely, before softly again. The moment with Serena felt so right, and as she was kissing him back in the pasture, he knew he meant those words he had said to her before. He kept his weight balanced on his two palms on either side of her. His chest was still in the air, but almost directly above hers and his legs lay parallel to her legs. He pulled back from kissing her slowly, kissing her cheek, then her neck and finally her forehead.

He sighed slightly, rolling back over onto his back and looking back up the night sky. It was pitch black out now, and it was nights like these that he truly enjoyed. He stole a glance back over towards Serena, and she appeared to have her thoughts elsewhere. He knew it was not his place to ask, but after she revealed her past to him, he was hoping she would reveal her thoughts too. "What are you thinking, baby?"

Serena glanced back at Jude as he lay down next to her again. A silly look of disappointment appeared on her face. She didn’t want talk about her thoughts, but since they were so honest with each other, she wasn’t about to stop now. “Actually, I was thinking about my mother. She’s either coming over this winter for the winter holidays, and she’s totally going to freak when she finds out about us. I know it’s still far, but still. Telling her now, would be, like standing in front of a freak train. She doesn’t want to me to go out, not after everything. “

Serena brushed out her blonde bangs from her face. Her eyes closed for a moment, and she smiled. In her memory this moment was captured forever. It was a small thing, but it was the start of a beautiful thing. A thing that would be as good, and wonderful, that would go further than time itself. “I hear there’s a new auction starting tomorrow in town. I want to go look, and see if there isn’t a horse that I can buy. Maybe a youngster of some sort. Do you want to join me?”
