Age: Nine Gender: Gelding Color: Iron Dapple Grey Breed: Irish Sports Horse Height: 16.2 hands high Personality: A strong, forceful horse, Artie's greatest strength is his enthusiasm. He's up for anything, being the type to boldly go where no horse has been before with nary a twitch, instead surging forward into the unknown with nary a flicker of an ear. Unfortunately, this enthusiasm for going leads to habit of him ignoring his rider, being firmly convinced that he knows exactly what he should be doing, and when. Given that he looks, rather than leaps, he needs a strong-willed rider to keep him in check, and convince him that no, actually, the rider is the one in charge, thank you very much. Daniel supplies this, though, being equally strong willed and forceful, and though the pair often get into battles for dominance, Artie being surprisingly stroppy for a gelding, when they're on form, they're good. Very good. Rather opinionated, he occasionally manages to fool people into thinking he's a stallion, simply because he has so much presence. History: Canadian bred, Artie caught Daniel's eye as a seven year old in an auction, the horse's bold gaze striking him from right across the room. Somewhat against the advice of everyone else, he took the horse on, and soon discovered that he had quite the battle on his hands. Gelded late, Artie retains quite a few stallion-like characteristics, not the least of which being a pushy attitude, and a very self-important image. Artie soon learnt, however, that Daniel was more than a math for him in pushy attitude and self-importance, and after a rough first few weeks, the pair began to shine. Discipline: Eventing Owner/Rider: Mostly Daniel's gelding, Ethan and Artie don't quite see eye to eye, though if Daniel can't exercise the horse, his younger brother will.

Show Name: The Flames of Shadow Barn Name: Flay Age: Ten Gender: Mare Color: Flaxen Bay. This mare's name is very appropriate, her mane and tail being an almost red-gold against the dark bay of her body. With no white markings anywhere on her body, she is certainly a very striking beast. Breed: Morgan Height: 15.1 hands high Personality: A rather flighty, opinionated mare, Flay demands a light touch or she's not going to do anything that you ask her to. The ultimate 'ask, rather than tell' horse, she requires a very precise style of riding, and has little qualms about throwing a hissy fit if she feels she's not being respected. Ethan, though, luckily has the trick of this mare, and has perfected the technique of respecting her while he asks, with the result that Flay goes along rather well, for him - usually. She can be quite the darling when she wants to be, after all, and is both responsive and intelligent when you approach her on her terms. History: Ethan knows surprisingly little about Flay's history, despite her being a registered Morgan. He happened upon her at the same auction that Daniel discovered Artie, which was fortuitous, as he was about to grow out of - both physically and in capability - his pony. Certainly a striking animal, Ethan took her on trial for a month, and after the first week when he fell off approximately twice a day, found out how to approach her so that they worked together, rather than in completely opposite directions. Having been riding together for several years, now, they've settled into quite the partnership, Flay now being rather possessive of her rider, and having a distinct dislike for Daniel, who's far too forceful to suit her way of riding. This amuses Ethan no end. Discipline: English - Eventing. Owner/Rider: Flay is mostly Ethan's mare, getting along with the younger boy far better than with his older sibling, and Ethan managing to get more out of the horse than his brother, though Daniel will ride him if Ethan cannot.

Show Name: Barn Name: Miles Age: Six Gender: Gelding Color: Black Breed: Australian Stock Horse Height: 15.3 hands high Personality: A tough, intelligent horse, Miles holds true to the ideals of his breed very well, being a very down-to-earth animal. Far more level-headed than either of the other two horses they own, Miles falls into the role of 'sensible mediator' when the three of them are turned out. Somewhat lazy, he needs encouragement to go to his full potential, and Daniel and Ethan are working on ways to properly motivate him, as he's very conservative about how much energy he uses, usually not expending more than the minimum. History: Bred in Australia to good bloodlines, Miles was exported to Canada when he was two, bought by the whim of someone with far too much money rather than sense, whom - shortly after Miles arrived - lost all interest in horses. Miles then spent the next three years of his life in a field, running utterly wild and carefree, until it was decided to sell him. After about seven months of training, to which the sensible animal took very well, he was sent to auction when he was backed, whereupon Ethan and Daniel chanced upon him. Liking the level way in which he viewed the world, and having been wanting the opportunity to bring on a green horse, they proceeded to purchase him. Having only been with them a few months, so far all he's trained for is trail-riding, the brothers having been wanting to improve his basic riding skills before they take him any further. So far, they're at slight odds about what they wish to do with him; Ethan thinks he'd be a star at endurance, while Daniel would prefer to send him into the eventing world.They have decided to reserve judgement until they actually try him over a jump, however. Discipline: English - Hacking. Being trained for endurance, or possibly eventing. Owner/Rider: Miles is the brother's shared horse, the pair taking approximately equal time training the horse.
