Ok. i don't know if anybody's seen the pictures of my horse, Jasmine, but this is who it's about. I know this may be a total waste of typing, but im actually quite proud of myself, and my horse.
BEFORE:
Jasmine had no respect whatsover of my authority. Haha. Scratch that. I had none. But she'd get in my space, and she'd pin her ears at me. She would try to bite or kick me when i was in her space. It was a nightmare. I had gotten to the point where i would'nt really spend any time with her because it was so miserable getting bit all the time. She does it with everybody who's around her, so i know it's not a "grudge" thing. I assume it was because she was starved, and abused. But it got to the point where i had, had enough of being afraid of my own horse. So i did something about it.
I talked to the horse people, of the town i live in, and they said the only way they could help resolve a problem like that, was "Joining up" with their horse's. They told me how they did it, and the situation they had before joining up. I'd actually ridden a man's horse who he'd jopined up with a few months earlier, and he was one of the best, most docile horses i'd ever been on in my life. So i decided to try this join up thing.
Before now, I never in my entire life, would have believed that this would work. So i took Jasmine out into the round pen, and started the join up process. The moment she walked up to me, licking her lips, and her head almost to my knee, i think i almost cried. That was the first time i'd ever felt like my horse actually trusted me, and i trusted her.
AFTER: When i get home from school, I'm the first person she looks for. When i go to see her, she always keeps her head low. If i walk, Jasmine walks. If i run, she runs (not over me though!) If i stop, she stops. She actually keeps her throatlatch automatically at my shoulder. I can saddle and bridle her without any problems.
I don't know if it's just... temporary. She's still unpredictable, but this has been going on for the past 3 to 31/2 months. She is still extremely timid around other people in my family, but she's a little more calm if im around.
This may mean nothing, but I'm glad that i can have a good time with my horse.
