Hey guys, these are the school horses here at my college. They are used for the beginner and intermediate western lessons. In my equine science class, I have to do stuff like pick up garbage the rodeo team left flying around, clean their stalls, paint, but get to take care of these guys!
I don't know his real name, so I call him Bub. He is at least 20 yrs old. He's an Arabian. I have never rode him, he looks pretty scrawny and seems to have a little bit of arthritis. I paid the most attention to him today though. His mane was horrible in knots. They were going to cut it, but I could brush it out, it just took time. Besides, he's so cute, he needs TLC!
This is Curly. She is a Bashkir Curly, as you can tell by her coat. She is very old as well, she has no bottom teeth so her bottom lip always hangs down. I feel sorry for her, she is short and the other horses always pick on her so she has hair missing. But she has black skin, so lucky no sunburn. She was the first horse I rode at the school when I took the beginner course. No one told me she was horse aggressive when riding.... but I found out!
This guy is new, he wasn't here last year. He is white with speckles, probably a QH. It looks like he was injured on his head. He seemed rather flightly when I was in the pen, but after I introduced myself by exchaning scents with him, he was a bit better. He even settled down the longer I petted him. He was just probably rushed and misunderstood. I don't know his name.
This is Tex. He is my favorite riding horse. We developed a bond in my classes. He always seems to remember me too. He walks, trots, and lopes on cue. He is a very nice horse. I have a lot of fun when riding him. The first time I was in an English saddle, it was on him. We also trotted around barrels in an English saddle. Haha, it was very fun, and we raced with another student on the tall bay thoroughbred in the background named Cactus.
And that dun in the middle, I know nothing about. It won't let anyone catch it, and is very unsure of people.
