Dear mum and dad,
It's wonderful here! It really is, and though I am missing you terribly, I think I'm settling in okay. I know it's only been a week and a bit, but I think it's all going to go well. And, yes, it is all a bit nerve-wracking - there's just so many people here, and so many of the students are so much older than me! And even the ones closer in age to me all seem really settled in and confident.
I think I'm making a friend, though - Cara. She's fifteen, so older than me, but she doesn't seem to mind that I'm gravitating towards her in classes, now. I don't know why she doesn't have a huge circle of friends already, but she's been really nice, so far, and doesn't seem to be annoyed by gaining a tag-along thirteen year-old. I first met her in my first English Riding class with Miss Carr, and I keep running in to her everywhere, now. She's kind of quiet, but really nice, though I think she's had a bad time of it in the past. I don't know what, though, and haven't asked of course. I hope we can become friends, though.
Miss Carr is the English riding instructor, and she's really nice too - actually, everyone seems to be really nice! - and didn't mind at all when I was late for my first lesson with her because I got lost. I think she likes Acorn, too, and he was being as good as gold in the lesson. I feel kind of outclassed with my riding, really. There's so many people who ride really, really well, and have three or four horses that they ride really, really well... and it's all a bit overwhelming, really! Still, Miss Carr runs riding lessons twice a week and on Saturdays, so I'm definitely going to be joining all of them. Maybe I'll even enter a competition?
Classes are going fine - my teachers seem really good, and nice, too, and we're looking at interesting stuff. The Crusades, an report on a writer in English (I'm doing Tolkien, what a surprise!) and stuff like that.
Anyway, much as I miss you I should probably be going now - work to do, and I still need to go down and see Acorn (who seems great, by the way! And behaving like the awesomely brilliant pony he is!) before dinner, so I'll sign off here.
Lots and lots of love,
Jess.
