History: Pacemaker is a Thoroughbred of rather shabby origins. He was out of a mare that had struggled to break her maiden, by a stallion whose career as a four-year-old was very short-lived.
Ace was a complete failure on the track. He placed dead last in every single race he entered until disillusioned, his inexperienced owners sent him off to auction. He was picked up by a rescue group that specialised in placing off-track Thoroughbreds destined for slaughter.
He spent two years in a foster home before being put up for adoption. It was also around this time that Jocelyn’s father was forced into early retirement because of an old work injury.
Jocelyn had stumbled upon the rescue group’s website by chance, and had fallen in love with Ace. Wanting to do something for his daughter, Jocelyn’s father dipped into his pension to formally adopt the horse and have him trailered from Virginia to Kentucky.
