.Good Predictions.
Show Name: Good Predictions
Barn Name: Jo
Age: Six
Gender: Gelding
Color: Bay
Breed: Thoroughbred (OTTB)
Breed Registry: Jockey Club
Height: 16 h
Personality: Jo is very observant to his surroundings. He can get flighty or spooky in new environments, but is more likely to balk or step sideways, rather than bolt, buck, or rear. Jo is headshy, and getting him used to common everyday horse life has been a struggle, but so rewarding.
Jo isn't the pocket pony or cuddle buddy, but he doesn't mind a good
scratch on the neck, or verbal praise. He has minor trailer loading issues, and prefers to be kept with same sex horses in the paddock.
History: Jo was bred on a racing farm in Arkansas. He was trained quickly and sternly, though his ground manners were lacking. He raced as a two year old and won twice. As a three year old, he ran and bowed a tendon but was allowed rest-time and came back strong. At age four, he quit placing, so the owners knew he was tired of running. They held on to him as a speed-dummy for other horses for a year. He got a little better at riding under saddle, but could still be greatly improved. He also received a scar above his eye, now white hair, from a trailer loading accident. Around that time, Renee came along, searching for a prospective barrel horse, and Jo was instantly recommended.
Jo was kept at the OTTB rescue organization Gallop On, for the first few months of being off the track. He was temperamental and aggressive as he was coming off steroids the trainers had been giving him. He was released into a pasture with 'Boss' who was the large gelding that reminded the green thoroughbreds of their horsey manners. Day by day, Jo was suiting more and more into his new environment and learning how to just be a horse. He was ground driven, lunged, and rode multiple times in the arenas, and just introduced to the barrel pattern when Rin took
him to Blue Ridge.
