Color: Chestnut
Breed: Thoroughbred
Breed Registry: Jockey Club
Height: 16.2 hh
Personality: Bully got his nickname from his first owner who was watching him in the field with his dam and the other broodmares with their own foals. The young colt would chase the others around, wanting to play even though the others obviously didn’t. When they would play with him, he tended to fight the other colts, showing his dominance, but was always a softie at heart. He lived, breathed, and ate to run, so when his accident on the track cost him his career as a racehorse, he found out the next best thing: Cross Country. He likes to please his riders, and he always gives 110% no matter what he is being asked of. He does tend to get annoyed with going any slower than a canter, but when he knows he’ll get a treat afterwards, it’s always worth it. Bully is a very loveable horse once you spend some time around him.
History: Reason To Fight was a major force on the racetrack as a two year old. Winning all of his 4 starts, he set the pace for the other two year olds throughout the country and the owner and trainer were already setting their sights for the Triple Crown. That dream came to a halt during his 5th start of his career, which soon was the last for his lifetime. Bully and his Award Winning Jockey were ready and waiting in the gates as the last horse loaded. “He was feeling great in warmups, and usually never has problems in the gate,” said his jockey after the race was over, “I honestly think he just got too excited.” As soon as the bell rang out and the gates opened, the large colt jumped out of the gate, like usual, but this time he swung to the side as he was exiting. The jockey’s foot slammed into the gate and was caught in the rails on the top half of the open gate, causing him and the colt to stumble to the ground as the other colts dodged to avoid the pair. On the way down,Bully bent his hoof in too far in the wrong direction, injuring his tendon and slightly tearing one of the muscles in his right front leg. The vet didn’t give the team false hope, and told them that this colt was done racing. His bloodlines were good, but not outstanding enough to pay off the bills which resulted in the big and glorious colt being put to stall rest and hoping to be sold. After years and years of him kicking the stal, lashing out at anyone who came into the stall without tack and yearning to run on the track again, they finally gave up hope of someone paying for him and they sent him to an OTTB Rescue Center. It was there that Cannon and Bully first met and became partners for life.
