Turn away 'cause I need you more
Personality>> Horses change people for the better, and Shayna's case was no different. She has learned to be strong and stubborn in dealing with the horses, and these experiences have made her spirited and fiery. She is full of charisma and personality, and is generally not shy and a joy to be around. However, she has very sarcastic and sassy tendencies. Her stubbornness can also cause problems in her relationships, for it makes her rather difficult at times. Shayna is dedicated and will do a job correctly until it is done. Though not shy, around boys, her brain shuts off. She feels like she can't even speak around them, as unfortunate as that is. Once she becomes more comfortable, however, she will open up and be her natural self.
Shayna does have a temper, and though she tries not to blow up at people, that doesn't always work for her. The verbal fights she gets in are generally not quiet, and she doesn't try to keep them quiet. However, she doesn't hold grudges, so things can usually be resolved after Shayna has calmed down.
Likes>> Vegetables and hummus, fuzzy blankets, boys with abs, yoga pants, and the color teal.
Dislikes>> Rock climbing, spiders, the color orange, high heels, math.
Fears>> Bugs and talking to boys.
Hopes>> Find an actual best friend, become a top competitor.
Secrets>> At one point she was so off track that she had to be taken to the hospital two weekends in a row to get her stomach pumped due to alcohol poisoning.
It’s the way I’m feeling I just can’t deny
Appearance>> No one would guess that five foot ten Shayna was only sixteen. She is tall and leggy, with a figure to boast about. She has always felt self-conscious about looking so much older than her peers, but she is just now beginning to see the advantage when it comes to the opposite sex. She has big, blue eyes that are the focus of her oval face, if you can keep your eyes off of her incredibly long, blonde hair. Shayna considers herself pretty, but is insecure, as most teen girls are. She dislikes the beauty mark on the right side of her face, next to her nose, and still feels like she towers over everyone.
Markings>> A scar on her elbow from falling on the blacktop in eighth grade P.E., and a scar on her knee from a biking accident when she was seven. Shayna also has her ears pierced, just once.
But I’ve gotta let it go
Medical History>> Nothing serious.
Criminal History>> Not exactly, although she has run from them a few times while participating in questionable activities.
Full History>> Shayna was born with a genetic disease, one that had spread to all of the females on her mother's side of the family: the horse disease. It took over the mind and body within just a few months after birth. It started simply, with a golden stuffed pony Shayna fondly called Goldy. That was all it took. For the rest of her life she would love horses, love them like she loved nothing else. Unfortunately for her, her mother and father couldn't afford to have a horse, as much as Shayna and her sister May wanted one. Shayna only had access to horses through her aunt, who owned a hunter jumper barn in the city next to where the Parkers lived. Her mother took her there every weekend to look at the horses and pet them, and give them treats that they grabbed eagerly from her tiny hand. She would giggle when their velvet muzzles slid across her fingers, delicately searching for the food they knew she had.
Little visits to greet the equines turned to riding lessons, provided by Shayna's Aunt Barbara. When Shayna was eleven, she transitioned from lessons to exercising the easier horses. She rode four days a week, and usually exercised two to three horses each day. Her skills improved tremendously. At age twelve she decided to try Western. Only an old Arabian at the farm was trained in Western, so he became her main mount, and taught her things about the Western world. A year later, when Shayna was thirteen, two catastrophic events occurred in her life. The Arabian, named Cowboy, died after a bad round of colic. Just after that, her parents got divorced. This tore Shayna into pieces. These events she still hasn't fully healed from. To help Shayna get through all of the grief, her aunt gave her a project: to train an unbroken horse into a western pleasure mount, and then show him. Shayna threw herself into it, and within two years had an incredible western pleasure mount. The gelding did very successfully in the show ring, and he grew to be her pride and joy. She even took him to cow events, which he did poorly in, though it was fun.
At the end of her sophomore year of high school, the gelding had to be sold, for her aunt was running dangerously low on money. This was the last straw for Shayna. She stopped doing her school work, stopped riding horses, stopped hanging out with her friends. She cut class and ignored her chores. Her parents panicked, and did extensive research. They knew she needed to get away, and they had found the place. Blue Ridge. The perfect place to recollect herself, get back into horses, find some peace within. Shayna willingly agreed to attend the academy, and here she is now.
We found love in a hopeless place
