Kitty,
I'm doing fine of course and Thimble too. It's different here in America, as one might imagine, but you'd like it here if you put away your snobbery. I joke. You always rub off on people quickly. I'm honored that Osiris misses me and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss him too. Weird. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
I'm glad school and your riding is going well. You've always been brilliant and talented, but what can I say, it's in your blood. I showed someone the pictures I took that evening at the stable yard. She liked them and asked about you. Couldn't help but boast Kate!
Lace is doing well and she likes it here, especially with all the new smells, but I have to remind my roommate not to leave his drawers open. Imagine if she got to his socks! Thimble had been good, and luckily hasn't escaped yet, but she's been raising her head more and more. You remember I was worried about that before I left. I'll have to find a way to get her to stop.
Well I have to go to class! (It's the morning. I'll mail this afternoon.) Love, Peter

Kitty, Funny story actually, with your question about the girl I showed the photos to. I actually don't know her name, but I'll let you know when I find out. I saw her again on the trails and I've resolved to call her Washington until I find out what her name is, or maybe even after that. I guess it depends what her name is. But anyways, yeah, I'll be seeing her again, so I'll write you when I find out. Don't ask too many questions, because chances are I won't be able to answer them.
Don't make fun of people who dream silly things! It's rather nice. You should admire her. But yes, you probably shouldn't have told me that, and now I'll eternally be feeling bad for her, and I'll certainly try to avoid her when I visit. Lovely job, Kitty. Don't feel too bad though...you've never been brilliant about keeping secrets. But, you dissuaded her as best you could, right? You'd better have. I'm sure you did. That's actually sad. It really does make be feel horrible for her. Find a nice boy for her, will you? Or better, tell her to stay away all together for a little while.
Yes, I know, you'll be calling me a hypocrite. "Hopeless romantic" you'll call me, and "Blubbering, love-struck fool." Yes, I can hear it now. I'll have you know that I will find a girl, and when I do, she will be the one for me. I don't know how long it will take, but it'll happen. Good luck with your own romantic endeavors, if you have any. Don't do anything dim-witted. I'll find out. I'm sure you won't tell me. I won't tell you specifics either when they come along. It's odd you know, how I tell you even this stuff. You'd better be enjoying it.
Best wishes, Peter

Avery- Would you be interested in meeting to discuss art, in return for the football tricks you shared with me? (Thanks again for that. It was fun.) I'll be in the Red Ribbon common room tomorrow morning (Saturday) if you'd like to join me. I hope to see you there. Best wishes, Peter Holden

Kitty, Yes, it's American. If you look it up, it's a sort of myth they have about one of their Presidents. I only know it because I read about it in a book once. Ha, ha. (In regards to the friend comment.) And as far as fancying her, I'll keep you updated. Hard to say. You'd better be enjoying this information, because you know if I had to live with you you wouldn't be getting it. You'll probably get better information through my letters than you did through speaking to me.
You are terrible to her. Absolutely horrid. Isn't she supposed to be your friend? I won't bother you about it though, because I know right well that you won't listen. But as long as I'm nagging, don't blame her too much for not going to the park with you. I won't scold you for doing it, since it's too late and it won't make a difference for the future, but she's not the best rider (for God's sake, don't tell her I said that. Or even allude to it), and it probably would have been a scary adventure for her. Be careful when you go out at night again, will you? Especially with Cailin. I don't like the thought of you alone on the trails in the dark. Why didn't you take Poet? I mean, as long as you're breaking rules. He'd have been the safest in the dark. I miss that horse. Give him an apple for me.
Of course I'll come to your performances! Opening night at the ballet for sure! And is it even a question that I'll bring my camera? They'll make for great pictures. Congratulations on being Clara! It's about time! What do you think about pictures of you in your ballet things with the horses? They'd make for gorgeous photos. Just a thought. Poet would look amazing, but Cailin and Madeline would too for that matter. Don't shoot it down too quickly without thinking about it.
Speaking of my work, I've started a little project with apples. Painting and drawing and taking pictures of apples everywhere. It's going to be very cool, and I'll send you a couple pictures soon, though I want to keep them with me for now. Art class is going well, and we had to paint a mural, which went well.
It's only a month till I return!
Best wishes, Peter

Kate, As a quick note in regards to the email I sent you guys about Lacey. I don't really have time for her here and I feel terrible so I'm going to have to send her back to you guys. Mum and Dad said that was okay and I trust that you guys will take care of her well. Please take her on long walks like she likes and let her run in the yard. You basically knows what she likes, so please just take care of her. I'm definitely going to miss her. I'm bringing her with me when I come home for Christmas, so I still have a few weeks with her. I just thought I'd let you know since I don't know how much Mum and Dad show you of the emails I send.
Best wishes, Peter

Kitty, Sorry for not writing a response to your letter earlier. I've been really shaken up by this Lacey thing. It's going to be horrid without her.
On a happier note, I'm glad to inform you that her name is Avery. And I am quite sure that you will like her if/when you meet her. She showed me some soccer skills and I did the same for her with art. Oh! And we also went on a picnic. It was very nice (Don't snicker.)
How is Cailin doing by the way? I thought that Mum and Dad were nuts for letting you get her but once I met her she was a nice horse I suppose, if not a bit flighty. Do you have time for her and Madeline and Poet? For what it's worth, I'm proud of you for being so thoughtful about Poet, though I advise you to do nothing risky with him. That horse is worth a fortune, and you would be in deep trouble if anything happened, or even if anyone found out. How did the show go?
What have you been doing with your art lately? I hope you're keeping up with it, because you really are good with it. I don't blame Mum for not letting you do the chalkboard thing. It would make terrible dust! Imagine! Is she into her whole Christmas thing yet? You know, baking cookies every weekend and the decorations and ugly Christmas jumpers. I do miss that I bit. I try to be festive here but it's not the same.
Best wishes, Peter

Dear Kitty, I know Lacey will be fine with you of course, and you're right. I already feel so guilty about her having to stay with me now, and me not being able to spend so much time with her.
I know it's pretty...I like it quite a lot myself. Although I do like our names. It's one thing I do approve as as far as parenting goes in this family. They probably won't go out of style, which I'm sure you'll be glad for later. I'll have you know that our picnic was wonderful, and I did not, in fact, overdo it. Limited time you see, but the food was still decent. It was sort of a date if you must know, but it might be a bit debatable, depending on whom you ask. It's probably safest to stay that it started as being questionable, and was closer to a date by the end. Does that satisfy you?
Good for Emma. John was a nice fellow, and decent enough. They should be happy for a little while at least, as long as she doesn't drown him in her extensive vocabulary. Was that mean? Maybe, but it's the truth. If you're wondering though, and you probably are though you needn't be, I rarely think of her now. Blue Ridge is certainly a good place for forgetting.
I'm very glad to hear that Cailin's coming along nicely. She seemed a bit questionable when she first came but seemed to adapt nicely, and I'm sure she'll be good for whatever you shoose to do with her. Hunters, right? Leasing Madeline? Never thought I'd hear that, though it does make sense, and is very practical of you. At least you'll still be able to see her and talk to her if you're not going to sell her. And yes, I remember that woman. Nice lady, and good intentions. If I'm remembering the correct person, her daughter was nice too, and showed some good potential. Madeline will be good for her.
Really Kate? Poet? You really need another horse? You can do what you like with him anyways with just leasing him, and the woman can't be that much of a bother. Besides, don't you have Cailin for hunters? Good job with getting reserve though.
I don't know how you juggle so many things between riding, dance, singing, and art. Also your violin. Does Mum still make you practice everyday? I hated having to do that 30 minutes of piano afternoon. Pure torture, though I'm glad I know how to play now.
I can't wait to come and help with those cookies! The closer it gets to when I return, the more homesick I get. I never liked your ballet teacher much. Why does she care how skinny her students are? At least you don't have to worry about it though.
Only a couple weeks until I return! -Peter

Kitty, I'm not going to reply to the whole first half of the letter because I am so excited about the second half. It's great that you're coming to Blue Ridge, and so soon too! It's hard to imagine that when I come back from Christmas break, you'll be a student here too. You're going to love it! I'm sure you've seen that there are dance classes here as well as singing and acting. You'll be signing up for some of those?
Have you started packing? I can only imagine. You can't bring everything you know. How many trunks will it be? If I were you, I'd try and get that done before the holidays so you won't have to worry about it last minute. But you probably won't listen to that.
You and Cailin will do well here, though I can't give you any advice about Poet. I think that you could be fine in all your classes with just Cailin, but that's up to you. Just make sure that you'll have time for everything. Everyone is pretty busy around here. You are bratty, especially with the whole Poet thing. I still don't think that you need another horse, but I do like Poet. He got along with Thimble well too. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be wonderful.
Christmas is getting close and I'll be home in a week or so! I can't wait to be back, if only for a little while. Best wishes, Peter
